Why is everyone obsessed with David Archuleta

I like his singing a lot. You might say I am borderline obsessed with him. The funny thing is the fans of David Cook can hardly say how much they like Cook without making some comment about how they dislike or are bored with David Archuleta. Cook fans for example don't feel compelled to talk about their dislike for Syesha in every comment. Am I wrong about this. It just seems that Archuleta dominates the discussion around here.

I think the Sheakespeare line "Methinks he doth protest too much" comes into play here. People feel they have to cut Archy down because in reality they know how good he is and that he is the main threat to their favorite.

Now us Archy fans play nicer and don't feel the need to put down David Cook or Syesha.

Well, something that should be admitted, Archy is totally talented, and I can not argue about it. The think is that Archy is driving his talent in a wrong way IMO, as he keeps singing songs that he doesn't even know, but still are his comfort zone in the show. I believe Archy will do good, but I would love to see him singing something a little bit different, just for a change, I would like to see the energy he showed while in StarSearch singing Alicia Keys, something that he hasn't show so far, and that's mostly the reason why I don't like him.

The other contestants, on the other hand, has at least showed a little bit of growing on the competition.

I used to like Archy at the beggining, but now it is always the same, kind of the same with DC, but at least DC showed a softer side of himself twice already, and yet, I haven't seen Archy up the beat so far, he is always with the ballads. I hope the judges give him something different for him to sing, and I hope there is not a ballad version for it!

When I say something negative about a contestant, it's not because I want to put them down to make myself feel better about my current favorite. It's me discussing what I dislike about and why I dislike that contestant.

Your post seems contradicting to me though because you seem to be doing the same thing that you are stating that the other contestants' fans do.

No I am not putting DC down in any way. I like him. I am talking a little trash that is true but I seriously see this obsession with Archy. Syesha is basically being forgotten comparatively. Just some food for thought people.

I think it is because most of the people is just narrowing the competition among both Davids, but I still think Syesha worth her place in the top 3.

DA and DC, two separate sounds, two sets of fans. Ones that like to rock and other who like the mellow side of music.

Sure the two can crossover but only to a point and not for very long. Those with a short attention span will gravitate back to what they like most, only natural.

My favorite performance of the entire competition so far has been DA singing "Smokey Mountain Memories."

I'm a southern boy and a military brat. I've lived all over the country clinging to my southern roots so I'm a bit biased.

Rock and Ballads are about my two favorite styles of music so I like both DC and Archy.

I think AI_Fan hit it right on the money. This competition is very much likely going to come down to the two Davids and in the eyes of the DC fans, DA is a "threat" (for lack of a better word). But I mean it's all about personal taste: Die hard rock fans want to see a rock guy win, and die hard balladeers want to see a ballad-person win.

To be quite honest, I don't think there are THAT many people in this forum that bash DA -- it's just a small number of poster who post quite frequently and are uninhibited in their desire to put DA down (**ahem THR :P)
