Survivor's Richard Hatch

Yes I am a Survivor freak (I really don't know why, you would think with my background I would be anti-reality TV, but nonetheless, I love the genre) Anyway, I was re-watching Survivor 1 on OLN and the infamous speech by that Troll Sue Hawk, watched Rich Hatch win the first million etc. all over again, and was just thinking how life can really turn on a dime. He wins a million, thinks its going to really change his life and it did, probably could have been set for life if he played his cards right, but he didn't.

Now a mere 4-6 years later, he is sitting in Prison on tax evasion charges. Life ruined (pretty much) That million with IRS penalties has no doubt dwindled to nothing. I am sure the IRS took whatever he did not blow. From experience I had a mere $1500 mistake turn into owing around $7 grand one time with the IRS because of interest and penalties they tack on. With that million dollar mistake he made, I am sure what he owed was more than what he had not already blown.

So now he is sitting in jail, broke, when he was on top of the world a few years back (rich) now everything is gone and he has to start over. At least I've never made that bad of a mistake. #1 rule, don't mess with the IRS. I know I never will, they will always win. But what an ironic story. From rags to riches to rags again.

I love Survivor, Hatch blew it for sure, Sue just sour grapes! Kelly should have won the 1st season. Hatch would not be in Prison then. But is he still in prison or did he just go within the last year or so, because he was on the All-Stars with Sue and Rudy. I don't consider Hatch or Sue an All-Star. I liked Gervis and Collen. Too bad they did not make it that far.

I think he went in either late last year or early this year, he got busted pretty soon after the All-Stars season was over. As far as I know he is still in, I didn't hear how much time he got, but I'll google it just out of curiosity. Yeah I agree there were actually quite a few that made it to All-Stars that I wouldn't consider All-Stars. (Jenna, Tom etc.,) I think Sue made it just because of her famous speech. Why Amber went I don't know, but I guess she proved she WAS an All-Star because she won. Although she was the ultimate under the radar player. I imagine that they had several that didn't want to go and just had to start picking whoever, and some of the whoever ended up in All-Stars by fluke, but I'm just guessing.

Wohoooooo, I just read that Hatch got 51 months. That is harsh by just about any standard. Surely he had prior convictions or bad history with the IRS, I can't imagine a first offense getting 51 months. That's crazy. Makes the story even more ironic.

CNN has a story about this today. It seems he just went in and started serving his sentence last week in Oklahoma. The Judge said he repeatedly lied on the witness stand, that's probably why his sentence is so harsh.
