Sorry I wasn't here live for the show but had important things to do that night. After watching on Hulu I am going to make a brief comment about each of the artists and the songs they did. First off was Robin and Alexis. I thought Alexis was very good last week. I was very surprised at how lacking the duet of Killing Me Softly went. She of course went home tonight and judging based on this performance it just wasn't high quality enough for this level of competition.
Jennifer and John do How Great Thou Art which is a very majestic song. John surprised me with an actually soft and sensitive version of it. Jennifer and John blended amazingly. Maybe this is a bit over the top but when I hear John singing it like this he reminds me of Josh Groban and if he and Jennifer continue doing songs of this type I think he has a legit chance to win the competition.
Kelly and Jordan do Mama's Broken Heart. The song didn't work for me at all. Jordan started out a little weak. When Kelly joined in the song gained a lot of energy and Jordan started singing better. Her voice sounded OK but didn't do much for me.
John Legend and Meleana Brown sing If I ain't got You. John was in great voice and Meleana has a soft and pretty tone. I think they blended very well. Kelly mentioned that when she goes big she gets a little nasaly. I don't know if that is the right word but I think she might be lacking a little bit of power but very nice job for the two of them.
Robin and Olivia did Crazy in Love. Big hit for Beyonce that honestly I didn't even know. I am not a big fan of urban. I love some Beyonce song's though. Anyway I didn't like the song and I didn't think they did a good job on it. This was certainly IMO a competitor for worst song of the night.
Jennifer and J Rome with a wonderful rendition of How am I supposed to Live without You. This guy can really sing and he has great instincts of where to take a song. His voice is ballpark as good as John Glosson but his presentation blows him away. This guy is a very strong favorite at this point in the competition. I think strange stuff would have to happen for him not to win this.
John Legend and Bridget did the Gladys Knight version of Heard it through the Grapevine. All I can say is WOW what an improvement I heard in her. Loved the deeper voice tonight and the attitude she brought it and reminded me more of Tina Turner than Gladys Knight. I went to Youtube to hear Gladys do it and sure enough it was the same way that Bridget sang it. What a turnaround is all I can say again.
Jason and Kelly performed Hallelujah and that song is quickly becoming overused. Jason sounds good and has the pretty boy with a nice smile thing going for him. Totally makes me think of Enrique Iglesias. Nice blending with Kelly but made some funny faces when he sings.
After listening to everybody tonight My new Rankings based on all three weeks combined
J Rome
John Glosson
Meleana
Bridget
Jason
Jordan
Olivia
