Default RIP Alex Chilton

One of the most influential singer-songwriters passed away yesterday, at the age of 59. Alex Chilton was a big influence on bands, such as Cheap Trick, R.E.M., and the Replacements. The Replacements even recorded a song named after him.

He was the lead singer of the Box Tops, who had hits, such as 'The Letter', 'Cry Like A Baby', and 'Soul Deep'. He was only sixteen, when he recorded 'The Letter'.

After the Box tops broke up, he formed another band, called Big Star. They weren't commercially successful, yet were critically acclaimed, and were a big influence on other bands. They're song, 'Out In The Street', was featured on 'That 70's Show'.

Alex will be missed by many, including me.

RIP Alex.

Wow. I wonder if Lee singing "The Letter" had anything to do with his dying. That is one impressive song for a 16year old.

EDIT: This might have come off sounding bad. I didn't mean he died because of Lee singing but more like Lee chose the song because of his death. He probably died after Lee had already chosen the song.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm surprised that nobody on the show even mentioned Alex Chilton.
