Bartenders

Has anybody noticed that if you want to succeed on Idol go into the business of serving alcohol. Of the final six two were bartenders and since Archy isn't employed yet as far as I know that makes 40% of the finalists Bartenders. I bet that is a bit higher than the national average for everyday people.

Well at least in David C's case, he is a bartender because they also let him perform at the bar. Being able to do this probably increases his opportunity to perform.

I'm not sure about Carly, but I think she has a similar arrangement also.

The reason why many people trying to break into the biz are bartenders and servers is because they are usually night owls. Also, working in a bar frequented by people already in the biz is a great way to network. It is also great money for fewer hours. Trust me, I waited A LOT of tables durring college. I have been a food server, cocktail waitress, door girl at a nightclub, and bartender on occassion. The $$$$$$$$ is awesome, and frees up a good deal of time for other endevoers.

Yep. If you're a decent bartender in anything other than a low rent beer joint you can make a decent living on tips. And for a musician, it's a good fit for a job because most tend to be night owls.

I was a bartender for several years...In Las Vegas and San Antonio and I made tons of money......I was also a cocktail server....My husband was a bartender and on his income we bought a 5 bedroom 3 bath house in the Reno area...we also had a son and spoiled him rotten......Bartending is not a bad occupation at all....

When I graduated from engineering school I had a buddy who worked as a bartender. Even with a degree it took me a few years to get to a point where I made more $$ than he did.

No it is just that an overly high percentage of Idol finalists are bartenders. Or work at bars like David hernandez.

That is because many people think that alcohol is created by the devil. People love to blame everything else in their life for their problems. So, the fact that people are stupid and drink too much, drive home drunk, kill a pedestrian, beat up their wife, get arrested, whatever, that is the fault of the bartender. It is so stupid. The bartender is probably some poor college kid staying up all hours of the night dealing with drunks when he should be home studying for his midterm, that he is going to have to start studying for at 3am.

I have noticed that especially people in recovery get REALLY nasty about bartenders. Sorry, but just because you cannot control yourself does not give you the right to be cruel to someone who is just doing their job.

BUT OH NO! He is a BAD person!

I have thought about bartending during the summers instead of teaching summer school, just to mix it up. However, as I get older, I just can't stay up until 3 am. Plus, I don't want to deal with drunks every night. They get super handsy.
