View Full Version : Producers' Picks

Simon criticized every one of the Producers' choices, almost suggesting they were the contestants' bad choices. Does anyone know, were they forced to sing the Producers' Picks, or were they given a few choices, and and picked the final song themselves? It doesn't make sense to criticize the choices after they've sung them, why not let the judges know what songs are being suggested by the Producers and if they are going to focus on the song choice, and not the performance, have them pick a different/better song. All season we've heard over and over again about bad song choice. It appears that the Producers are no better than the poor contestants, and they don't get criticized for it - the contestants do.

I love the song Longer even though I agree with Simon that it is kind of cheesy. The artists should be judged only on their performance of what they were forced to perform. They should not in these cases be judged on the quality of the song choice.

Exactly!!! Which is why I don't understand why they kept making a big deal about the song choice in this round.

I agree the contestants only chose 1 song each that being their choice...

Well, I think I mentioned that in another thread, the choices of the judges and the producers choices.. I think it is stupid to start critizing for example, Syesha for singing a diva song that she didn't even picked, she got smashed by the other song she sang Hit me up that was the producers choice, and in both cases they came saying that it was not her!!! Obviously is not going to be her, because she didn't even picked those songs to start with! The same goes with the others... and again, they did the same thing helping audiences not to vote for Syesha in this case, and at this time of the night, it seems that at the end, it would be the 2 Davids...

Anyways, tonight it was at least entertaining to see DC and Syesha, I didn't like the choices the judges nor the producers did for Archy, I liked his With You rendition, but I have to see it clearly without the barking of the dog on the back ;)

Simon was criticizing the producers and the other judges for their song choices. I think he was a bit frustrated that he was the only person that picked a song that would challenge a contestant.

And I'd have to be in agreement with Simon. The songs that they sang in that round were at best, forgettable. I mean, 'Longer', while a great, soulful song, isn't exactly vocally challenging. It might have been a good song for Brooke to sing given that Fogleberg is the 'singer/songwriter' type, but that's about it. But it's not vocally challenging. And especially for Archy. That was right in his strenght zone yet didn't require range. It was basically like a free throw. 'Hit Me Up' is a fun song, but one that also relies on a lot of post-processing to make it what it is. Kind of like the songs Pawler does. And the Aerosmith song they picked for Cook was, again, right in his wheelhouse. NONE of the producer picks even came close to trying to challenge the contestants. They were more like songs to sing in a warmup. IMO, it was a wasted round. They could have cut that entire segment out and it would have been a better show. Especially if they'd let them sing longer versions of the other songs.

I definitely disagree with Simon. I thought that the three contestants all did very well last night and it was the best Idol of the whole season by far. Simon is so conceited. He picks one song for one contestant and of course he thinks that was the best song of the night. He finds something wrong with every other choice including the contestants own choices.

I thought they all sang those songs fairly well. They just didn't stretch the contestants at all. Quite frankly, that whole round bored me to tears. It was like, "nothing new here". But I don't blame the singers for that. I think the producers must have been thinking of that play "The Producers" when they chose those songs.
