Suppose Fox decided to do a sort of hybrid of Big Brother and American Idol. The final 24 contestants are put up at a posh Hollywood mansion (filled with cameras) where they will live, eat, sleep, and rehearse. Cameras follow them on excursions out of the mansion (such as when they go film those lame Ford commercials)... we see them interact with all of the other behind the scenes people (like the vocal coaches, wardrobe, makeup, etc.). We'd really get to know them all pretty well then.

Is this a viable television show?

Would you watch?

Why or why not?

How much impact do you think it would have on the competition?

How would you prefer to see the eliminated contestants leave? Survivor style, where they all have to pack their belongings and bring them each Wednesday night? Or Bachelor style, where we watch them pack their things afterwards?

I would watch it but I would be mad the whole time. I think these "big Brother" shows are an attempt to put groups of people together and hope for sex, fighting, drauma etc. I would have to watch, I would have to know what is going on, and I think millions of others would also. But I dont think it is a productive show that our children should watch.

This being said, I dont think some of our contestants would benefit from it. Seeing their "real side" might be what sends them home, even though they sing well. Some of our camara friendly contestants would get a big kick out of it not realizing the harm.

On second thought, they should do it, I love when the fakers true colors come out. I'm in.

This would be a far better show idea than the idiotic plan that they have now. It would bring more of a reality factor to the show. it would also take away the unfair phone voting system that is in place now. I think that it would also force the current judges to actually choose contestants with real talent instead of just how marketable they were. And lastly of course, you would have to throw sex and alcohol into the mix. Which on these type of shows really makes it interesting. Good job ab...now sit back and watch how fast someone steals your idea and becomes a producer.

A REAL show along these lines would be to pick actual bands that WRITE their own music and have them compete, so real talented musicians could participate, not a bunch of lucky punks that couldn't write chop sticks with their 2 fingers duct taped together (like AI). You could throw in a bunch of strippers into the mix, use a Hollyweird mansion with a couple of large hot tubs, pool with waterfall, of course free booze and ......., strippers living with rock bands, hey that has potential. Why don't you bloggers send this stuff to the Fox suits.

That would be so awesome.

But I'd immediately shut the thing down if producers tried to "fake" stupid fights, or start controversies.

But to actually see the group interact with each other!?

I'm all for it.

I'd love it American Idol would do that.

Maybe 2 hours in total each tuesday.

1 hour summing up the week, showing the members daily life, and 1 hour of performance.

Wow....I'd never thunk it.

It would be awesome.

No
Because I don't care for shows like that.
I say AI if fine just the way it is.

Out of curiosity though - have you thought of a name for this show?

Out of curiosity though - have you thought of a name for this show?I think it would still have to begin with "American Idol", just so people can find it when they search their on-screen program guides. Here are a few ideas:

American Idol: Off-stage
American Idol: After the show
American Idol Insider
American Idol Extra Extra

Or... Maybe change it up week to week...

American Idol: Kellie's turn to cook
American Idol: Katharine takes out the trash
American Idol: Elliott cleans the kitchen
American Idol: Chris mows the lawn
American Idol: Taylor finds money in the couch cushions
American Idol: Paris does homework

lol :biggrinje

Oooh, and they can hide a secret "immunity contract" somewhere in the house...

Hahaha..

I love the idea absent.

And hey...it's not like it would hurt fox if they have an EXTRA 1 hour to make 10 million dollars.

I mean that would be so interesting.

I'd definitely watch, and they'd make a ton of money.
