Mentors are going to be Dolly Parton, Mariah Carrey, Andrew Loyd Webber and Neil Diamond.....
Maybe Kristy can inhale a bottle of helium during Dolly Parton week and make Simon happy.
Love Neil Diamond. Hope he still has the voice he had oh so long ago.
None of them can be more useless than Dianna Ross...................

OH CRAP Deja Vu
Bon Jovi
J-Lo and her Hubby,
Tony Bennett,
Martina McBride,
Gwen Stefani,
Diana Ross,
Barry Gibb,
Lulu, and
Peter Noone
are booked as special guest/judges/mentors/themes.
The preceding list reads like a who’s who of non-relevant entertainment hanger-ons. It’s like an entertainment soup kitchen array of D-List performers. It’s apparent that American Idol has become the Musical equivalent of VH1’s The Surreal Life (http://www.idolme.com/forum/../forum24.html).
Do these “Stars” represent theme weeks for our combatants? A Gwen Stefani show theme? OH Crap!
And while I’m on a mini rant here I have to ask, Who dresses the contestants? Half of the women, and ALL of the Men made the “Seattle Grunge” look of the early 90’s appear to be formal wear. And Phil, we understand, You’re Bald OK? Lose The F’ing Army fatigue cap already.
I mean look, if you’re going to be on a nationally televised talent contest, look like the Stars that you are pretending to be. And why we’re at it Fox, let’s lose the dreaded group sing portion of the results show. “Sowing the Seeds of Love”? Tears for Fears? WTF? It’s quickly becoming painfully apparent that unless you only use the “women of color”, group singing is not a good idea.
No, but Frankie posted a pic of Diana last season that did give me nightmares........

Dolly Parton are you freaking kidding me! Do we really want to hear these people sing songs of hers???? I'd rather listen to nails on a chalkboard for three hours straight.

Way better than hearing Whitney singing "IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIii........ ....Will Always Love Yououououo" I know Dolly is very quirky but she has some songs that are just nice and pretty. The Idol contestants can all put their own spins on the songs. It might not be so bad.

I have always liked Neil Diamond. Don't love him, but yeah, I do like him. What will the theme be that week ? Neil's songs ? I'd like to hear what, say Michael Johns could do with something like Shiloh. How might David Cook deliver the Brother-Love-Travelin' Salvation Show thing ? Might Sweet Caroline show us another side of David Archuleta ?

Or perhaps David A or Micheal Johns try and sing Morningside that song is so haunting and beautiful at the same time as a very sad song and it's nothing at all like Song Sung Blue...

I have heard from many people that NOBODY puts on a better concert than Neil Diamond. If he is still touring and has his voice I hope to see him someday.
Jason Castro has to do "Play Me" by Neil Diamond.........
Play Me
And I think David Cook could do a more edgy rock version of "I Am I Said"
I Am I Said

I love Play me and Jason would be able to nail that song I am certain of that.....I bet that someone is going to do I'm A Believer and perhaps even try Red Red Wine....Here is my favorite Morningside....

That's a weird list. Neil Diamond doesn't sing, just talks his songs. I can't imagine what Dolly will contribute to the contestants. Andrew Lloyd Webber--Huh? I thought the judges pounded the contestants for singing musicals. Mariah might be fun. This season is rapidly going down the tubes.

I can't understand how Dolly can be a mentor. Maybe for gals who want boob jobs when they make it "Big" and they have to re-learn how to walk with the new heavy weights??? Other than that I don't get it? Can't stand Mariah but bring on Neil. Seen him 3 times in concert now.
I have to admit there is one Dolly song I do like and it is this one...

I used to sing this song to myself LOL, when I lived in LA and my 1st marriage was starting to go sour on me. Only my version was with Canada and not New York. Funny how songs pop into your mind when life happens.

Eileen I am pretty sure that Dolly always had large breasts and that any surgery done on them was to keep them up. Defy gravity. She is a sweetheart. I am not much of a country fan but I really appreciate Dolly.

I read years ago that she's had 2 or 3 boob jobs who knows if it's true though. No big deal.

Oh this is do untrue Neil Diamond sings and he sing fantastic too.....But even more than that he was a song writer before he started singing so he has tons of songs to choose from which should be a bonus for the contestants..

I thought perhaps you were talking about McCartney....I am not so sure he will be a mentor I know that Michael Jackson owns the rights to the Beatles collection I think the man is growing broke because 1st they sang songs from the Beatles which must have cost a pretty penny and then tonight David Cook sand Billie Jean....And he rocked!!!!

David Cook should do this number and I bet only Randy would catch on that it's not really a C&W tune.........

Neil is an awesome song writer but I prefer the total psychotic genius of Jim Steinman who wrote all the songs on Meatloafs two bat out of hell albums as well as Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" Air Supply's "Making Love out of Nothing at all" Celine Dion's "It's all coming back to me now".

I appreciate all of his writing but Neil Diamond is still my favorite from I'm a Believer to Red Red Wine as well as some of his lesser known songs like Porcupine Pie and Morningside he has been covered by 125 songs recorded by others (cover versions), cover versions listed for 516 artists, and finally 1036 unique recordings........

I have no issue at all with Neil being your favorite songwriter. I just love the psychotic element of Jim Steinman. Another songwriter that needs to be mentioned is Prince. Saying his songs are creative would be an understatement. He has wrote songs for singers from Kenny Rogers to the Bangles to Sheena Easton to Cindy Lauper etc.

He wrote 'Crazy'. He also sang it on one of his albums.
But if they can sing any C&W songs, I'd love one of them to try this. I love Don Williams' voice. I think Elliott could have pulled this off.
