OK, one night gone. Who were the best, and who's going home? My take:
The first five showed almost nothing. Even Overmyer, who is so much fun and totally unique, was amateurish and failed to show off her big voice. At least most the viewers knew that Randy was off his meds: Connie Francis did "Where the Boys Are", not Patsy Cline, and Connie had no twang, especially in that song. White has a really pretty voice, wonderful tone, delivery was ordinary. Randy and Paula--otherwise none as Fox shills--blew it on Lushinton. Her performance was atonal, flat, boring. Simon nailed it on this one. Malloy is a total honey with a nice voice and creative performance, but took a few too many risks. I liked Epperson partly because she didn't try to do the Janis song like Janis--took her own approach. As Randy summed it up, Malubay started slowly but showed her talent with a huge close. Mercado is the total package--big voice, polished, lots of attitude. Smithson is a pro and didn't disappoint. I make it:
1. Mercado
2. Smithson
3. Malubay
4. White
5. Epperson
For my money, Lushinton and Davis should disappear.
