Will this year's American Idol be better than.....
Last year???????
I didn't care much for last season.

Nor I, but I am extremely underimpressed with this season so far as well.
Let's see who makes it through the Hollywierd round. Hopefully it won't be as talent lacking as last season. Doubt it will be up to AI5 though. Just about any of the top 8 from AI5 were better than the final 4 of AI6.
the only problem I had with last year's ai is that the wrong person won.

Last season was disappointing for me mainly because the most exciting thing to talk about was Sanjaya. Many of the performances were flat out boring, and even the better vocals, like Melinda or Phil just lacked any real edge.
Idol 7 looks like they're out for a legitimate album seller- not so much a vocalist nor entertainer. Like they're hoping to find another Carrie or to a lesser degree- Kelly.
I doubt we'll see the variety we did in season 5, or the sappy friendliness of 6- we're going to be choosing from more marketable contestants. Flavorful 5 is gone, and ugly best friend from 6 is out too.
7 will be about sales.

Well, you, and obviously everybody else here has had their head up their a$$es. Jordin Sparks is better than anyone else from AI5. Her CD has already sold more than Katherine McPhee, and she will certainly pass Taylor Hicks. Her album is almost gold, and she has two songs on the charts, "Tattoo", and "No Air".
I would even go as far as to say that Melinda, Lakisha, and Blake were better than the top 8 from AI5.
You people really need to visit the other Idol websites, such as Idolforums.com, to find out what the hell is really going on.
Did you even watch the Super Bowl? Jordin only had the greatest version of The National Anthem, next to Whitney Houston's.

That is pretty sad, but not uncommon. I believe most of the idol contestants get dropped within a year of getting a deal.

She was also named Outstanding New Artist at the 39th NAACP Image Awards, last week.
Now, she's about to go on tour with Alicia Keys.

After 12 guys and 6 girls, I would expect this season to stink! Also, what's with the band. Most of the girls are being drowned out by the ridiculously loud band. Finally, someone check Randy's medications: Connie Francis did "Where the Boys Are", not Patsy Cline, and Connie had no "twang" in her voice. Must be great to be paid to talk trash. Where can I get this gig?

I agree with you about AI6 being better than AI5 because of all the great female contestants. AI5 did have the best singer in AI history Chris Daughtry.The top three women from last year were all amazing. However the men didn't have even one legit contender. Blake made it through because the women were so divided in the vote. This year the men have several better performers than last year.

My sick old mom thought Lakesha was the best last year but I firmly believe that the right person won. Jordans voice was almost as big as Lakeshas but was more pleasant on the softer stuff.

There were alot of women last year, that were voted off too early, who were much more talented than any of the guys who made it to the top 12. The problem with having to keep a certain amount of each gender throughout the competition is that you have people such as Sanjaya and Chris R. still in it in the later rounds, and much more talented people such as Sabrina Sloan and Stephanie Edwards get voted off much too soon.

I don't know for sure that Randy was saying Patsy Cline did that song. He was saying that Patsy was the best of all time at "scooping" up to a pitch, i.e., "Youuuuuuuuuuuu.....don't love me, it's plain...."

No, he said that she needed a twang in her delivery. He is clueless most of the time. The only time I listen to him is when he's talking about marketability. That subject he knows.

Although I like Chris, Kelly Clarkson is the greatest singer in AI history.

I never got the Clay Aiken thing? If someone gave me tickets to one of his shows I wouldn't go. I would go to see him in Broadway play but not a concert.

I'm sure I don't know what he meant by "twang," but as a singer, that term doesn't have good connotations to me. I associate it with the nasal sound that I wish so many of the country singers wouldn't use.
You know, when it comes right down to it, the panel of judges consists of a former bass player, a lady who is more daqncer than singer, and a producer. I think AI might have intentionally stayed away from having any actual singers on the panel. A singer might have a tougher time judging other singers objectively.

Kelly is very good. I just think Chris is little better at what he does than Kelly is at what she does. It really doesn't matter because they are both great.
