Guy had taken only three days off - and Jules had no idea how he had spent his brief leisure time.

Guy, who captured the imagination of the nation when he won he first Australian Idol series in 2003 - suddenly dropped to one knee and produced an exquisite white-gold ring set with 140 diamonds.

The Malaysian-born singer's face was uncharacteristically serious as he fumbled in his pocket for the ring, a large princess-cut diamond embraced by two diamond-studded bands that he had lovingly designed.

"Will you marry me? " he asked. Jules burst into tears of joy. And there was no hesitation in her response.
'Yes,' she whispered. 'Of course I will.'
'I was just bursting with happiness,' 28 year-old Jules tells New Idea. 'I was crying and struggling to breathe. Guy and I have been together, and been best friends, for such a long time. But there have been ups and downs. I really didn't think this moment was ever going to come.'

But there were more surprises in store. As she stumbled across a lawn next to the beach hand in hand with 26-year-old Guy, Jules barely noticed that she was being led to a spacious house. Then Guy pulled out a key and said: 'This is ours baby. It's all ours.'

Inside, the house was already kitted out with furniture, toiletires and even a Christmas tree he had brought up from Sydney to furnish the new property.

In the two-car garage was another gift: Toyota 4Runner for the couple to go off-road when they stay at their new holiday home on the central Queensland coast.

And it didn't end there. Under the Christmas tree was a new Louis Vuitton handbag to replace the treasured gift from Guy that was stolen from Jule's car while he was away touring just months before .

I didn't know what to say. I could hardly breathe!' Jules recalls. 'I wanted to phone everyone and tell them, but suddenly our friends came out of hiding into the house. It was the best moment of my life. I found out that Guy had called my parents to ask their blessing for the marriage - they were in on it, and so were all my friends. Yet he's managed to keep it secret from me. It was just the best!'

Guy worked day and night on the proposal, while also promoting his new CD, so the sensation was of relief - and exhaustion.

' I'm used to work flat out on projects, but this took a lot of effort,' grins Guy, who even chose the diamonds and designed the ring with expert help from Cameron Lane at Sydney's Lane Gems & Jewellery.

'I was up till five in the morning organising the ring, buying and furnishing the house and trying to keep everything secret from her.'

'Jules knew I'd been keen on a property up here but I told her it was sold. She thought we were staying in rental accomodation. She couldn't understand why I was dealing with storage people, but I said it was just the stuff I was keeping from my old flat before I bought a new apartment in Sydney.'

'At the end I was completely exhausted, but it was worth it,' Guy says. 'I'm marrying the woman I want to spend my life with.'

Guy who is writing his fifth album, the future looks certain - although neither will reveal exactly when the wedding will be.

'It will be this year,' Guy offers. 'We're not putting things off. We've been together such a long time, and to be married will be just fantastic. It makes me feel more grown up.'

'It's been a long wait. But we've weathered a lot of things already and we're ready for marriage,' Jules says. 'I don't know where we'll get married, but it will be a wonderful day. And there will certainly be a great dress.!'

They've been together for 8 years (except for a largish break in the middle of that period) - so it means they know each other so well - before Guy got to be famous.
They sang at weddings together.

They went to the same school and same church and rehearsed together. Jules actually pushed Guy into going into Idol

so she KNOWS Guy from before
she KNOWS what he's gone through (with the media etc)
she KNOWS him

and they love to laugh together... to see them at a gig, if Guy's not in the spotlight, they'll be laughing and joking and talking.

And they love each other. Jules will point out people with placards to Guy, on the red carpets and will listen. She's happy to talk to people, if Guy has to be dragged away. They are both so incredibly balanced persons.

While it seems a little odd to feature Jules with the comment "fiancee of Guy Sebastian"

we have to remember that GUY is known so much in religious circles. NOT only as the singer, but as the person he is. He has often been the Worship Leader for his church, besides singing on so many albums, and featuring (now) in 5 videos relative to albums.

So we have to put THAT in the context of the very special Guy Sebastian, rather than the beloved Australian Artist Guy Sebastian.

Soul singer and Australian Idol alumni Guy Sebastian will be humming the wedding march next month.

He will tie the knot with long-time partner Jules Egan on May 20 in Sydney.

Matt Corby, star of last year's Idol series, will be one of the performers at the reception.,

Sebastian and Egan met at Assemblies of God's Paradise Community Church in Adelaide 13 years ago.

They have dated for more than eight years and became engaged in Queensland at Christmas.

During a walk along a beach, Sebastian proposed on open knee and presented Egan with a white-gold ring set with 140 diamonds.

Showing how serious he was about them spending the rest of t heir lives together, Sebastian also surprised Egan with a holiday house in Queensland's Hervey Bay, a new four-wheel-drive vehicle and, for good measure, a Louis Vuitton handbag.

The couple, who live in Sydney, are committed Christians and have said they will not sleep together until they are married.

In line with his Christianity, Sebastian has co-written and recorded the World Youth Day 2008 song Receive the Power. The track is the theme song for WYD, which will be held in Sydney from July 15 to 20. The festival will mark Pope Benedict XVI's first visit to Australia.

And of course getting ready for the big proposal, and making sure everything was fine and dandy re the ring, the moving furniture up to Queensland - a little like moving halfway across US and all that entailed.

We're all excited but in holding pattern, which is very frustrating.

ORIGINAL Australian Idol Guy Sebastian is marrying his sweetheart Jules Egan in Sydney today, a week after a wild bucks show in hometown Adelaide.

While wedding photo rights have been sold to New Idea magazine, The Advertiser has obtained this photo taken at Sebastian's stag party last Saturday.
While paintballing is a popular choice for grooms seeking a low-key, but exciting, celebration, the 'Fro reportedly later let his hair down. He and his entourage were seen walking along Gouger St on Saturday evening.

A music insider, who saw him back in Sydney on Sunday, where he was performing at a Mother's Day event, said Sebastian "had a very massive Saturday night".

"He was pretty hungover, which is out of character for him," the source said.

"He had been tied to a lamp post. There was wild behaviour."

Sebastian's spokesman Titus Day, of 22 Management, yesterday said the singer had "enjoyed a few drinks and had a good time", but refused to comment on the so-called wild behaviour.

"It was a buck's show so it could have happened but I am not confirming nor denying it," he said.

"He had to be on a plane at five the next morning."

Mr Day confirmed Sebastian's wedding was taking place today.

Sebastian and Jules Egan, who met when they were teenagers at the Assemblies of God Paradise Community Church 13 years ago, announced their engagement in January.

Sebastian and Egan are planning on a three-week honeymoon, making pit-stops in France, England and Spain.

There's lots of speculation, but a deal was made with New Idea, so thats saving quite a bit of tabloid overkill (not that there isn't a ton of it already - about 6 articles just atm :/ )

Sour grapes re the comment for money, obv. Womans Day were outbid. And these are a very giving couple, so we can be sure that although some of the money would def. go towards defraying the wedding costs, the rest would go to where it would do the most good. Like their engagement 'income'.

Not that many media - we had over 50 for the engagement - but the reality is that the photos they DID get were removed, due to the New Idea contract, and there were heavy security in use. Two police, plus very many security guards.

Did save the screaming fans, some of whom we know would be overwrought. The media actually only found the wedding via helicopter, and obv. followed them from there to the reception, where it was a tad of a free for all, but not too bad.

Oh, the Zeta bar - Guy and Jules had their official photos taken there - so I'm suspecting someone came across those, or heard they were there, and put two and two and made five!! The photos were in the early afternoon before the reception!

We suspect they actually flew out for the honeymoon late that night, or in the early hours of Sunday morning.

All is VERY VERY quiet, which is fabulous.

Guy works out - New Idea photographers obviously woke the fellas up a little early. (Although it was an 11.30am wedding).

Guy had "Stand By Me" playing while they signed the bridal register

"The Wedding March / Theme from "Rocky" was a mashup as they walked out of the church

Jules punched the air with her left hand when they were pronounced man and wife

she didn't wear a veil, the bridesmaids were given the materials / colours from which to choose what frocks they wanted made. There were two best men, as well as two best girls, and two flower girls. The men from the bridal party wore either grey or brown suits, whilst Guy's was very "Rhett Butler" effect.

The beautiful 'floral sash' Jules wore replicates the tartan sash which is worn by Scots/Irish ladies over their white frocks at special occasions.
