Hayden was trying to save a group of dolphins who were slated to be cruelly slaughtered by Japenese fishermen when she was physically forced back to shore by the heartless fishermen.

She and the people who were with her had to go back to the shore, knowing full well that the dolphins they had seen were doomed to a cruel death by the sadistic fishermen.

She was in shock as she spoke to reporters and cried about the dolphins who had met their painful and underserved fate.

Japan allows dolphins to be slaughtered.

I feel since she was brave enough to go to Japan and try to stop something that is so terribly wrong, that we Americans should at least try to help her.

Attention: This was not a publicity stunt like the ones by Paris Hilton. Hayden is deeply concerned about the majestic and intelligent dolphins.

One thing we could do is boycot all things made in Japan until the inhumane slaughtering of dolphins is banned in Japan.

Interesting topic...

I too hate when anyone hurts creatures (even though I do eat some...) You have a good idea here but the problem is Japan. It has ALWAYS massacred dolphins AND whales. They use about 1/7th of their kill and throw the rest away. What a waste....:(

In boycotting Japan, many of us would have to give up our cars, electronics, etc...Made in Japan is a good label now compared to the 50s-60s.

It's kind of like boycotting Canada for their barbaric seal hunts. :(

I guess what I'm saying here is that your cause is VERY respectable. I just don't know how many people would jump on board given that most countries do/allow barbaric things. :)

I saw that K the water was red with the dolphins blood when they were done with the massacre I cried along with Hayden it is so sad....:(

It is sad and Sandy, maybe you have a point about giving up things.

Boycots take a long time to get their messages anyway. Maybe we can be more creative... this is just an idea..so I might be wrong, but how about we don't let Japan reporters into our football games?...I got the idea from the miami dolphins........ I am not even sure that they watch our football games so that may not be too good of idea. If you think that is a bad idea, I won't be too upset.

It was so so sad, thr...... I have to say that Hayden really has a beautiful spirit and also very brave to do what she did. She is so young to witness such savagery.

Yes it is...The thought of it really gets me angry.......I know in the past we have flown our football teams to Japan to play what if we no longer do that and just blow them off when it comes to any sport!!!

Just blow them off and have the miami dolphins tell that they don't want anything to do with a country that kills dolphins!!

It's a noble albeit hypocritical cause (the United States slaughtered dozens of species, like the American Bison, and even today we threaten to wipe out the Desert Tortoise so we can go off-roading, or maim/kill the Florida Manatee so we can enjoy a motorboat or jetski. The list goes on and on but you get the point.
We're hardly the sort of folk who can judge other culture's mistreatment of animals as we have easily equalled or bested them in the waste and cruelty arenas.)

And yes- I hate to see humans needlessly slaughter any animal (meaning they aren't being eaten or put to good use), not just the traditionally appreciated species, but boycotting an entire country's products (particularly Japan's) based on a culturally engrained cruelty that not all of it's people agree with or practice serves no benefit to anyone.

Tell the 4th generation American cowboy that he practices animal cruelty, or the Spanish Matador for that matter, and then boycott American products that aren't even associated with it? Not very useful. It is far more effective when a culturally accepted practice is challenged from within its own borders, not when some hypocritical other culture wants to reduce its own quality of life.

And if you don't Japanese animal activists are up to snuff- they make our Save the Whale crowd look like pre-schoolers.Watch their footage of how they deal with Whalers- they get on their own boats and ram them!

Anyways...just trying to bring a little persapective here. I'm not saying this isn't a good cause- I'm saying boycotts help no one.

Hey Baby! Good points, as usual.

I absolutly adore dolphins, but I find it odd that some animals are revered, (dolphins, critters with fur, 'cute' animals, etc.) and some, nobody cares about. Does it matter that the oceans are being so over fished that many fish species will become extinct if we don't do something about it? No, because fish don't do tricks like dolphins.

I also like sea turtles and sometimes thay get caught in nets and drown. I like all living things, whether they have scales or fur.

I like fish and I never go fishing. I certainly would not go hunting.

Perhaps if we start speaking about dolpins being hunted cruely, it might bring attention to their plight. One time so many people got otraged over clubbing baby seals, that act was banned. Now it seems sadly that has started again.

And also it is sad about the american bison being exterminated. I think that was terrible but it happened years before I was born. The slaughter of baby seals, whales and other animal is happening now. I would like that to be stopped.

I also would like them stop killling lions, tigers and other animals in Africa.

I detest the hunting they have here, with the practically tame tigers set loose so that some heatless maniac can kill them and brag, 'oh I shot a tiger,' etc.

I think the only way one should be able to hunt is with a camera! No animal is killed and the "hunters" have proof of their "kill" so to speak......

I don't eat much fish it is just too fishy but my son loves tuna sandwiches and I will eat tuna.....But killing off all the species is just deplorable.....I remember when Mickey D's got their fish for their sandwiches from companies that clubbed baby seals and I have not eaten one of their fish sandwiches since......

You know, I am not against hunting or fishing, and I LOVE animals! However, I also LOVE the way they taste! I think that hunting and fishing is fine, IF you use every part of the animal. Cows are cute as heck, but they are made of steak and leather. Pigs are adorable, but made of bacon, pork chops and ham (not canned though! Watch out for that!). Fish are beautiful and delicious.

Hunting for sport is sick. People who kill animals simply for a trophy should be hunted themselves. Anyone ever read that story, "The Most Dangerous Game"? It is about hunting man for sport. Sport hunters should get a taste of their own medicene.

As far a over fishing goes, well, that is a big problem. Remember years ago when everyone stopped eating tuna because dolphins got caught in the nets and died? How about the overfishing of many species. My cousin is a marine biologist and he studies overfishing. He lives in Australia but he comes here to meet on this issue on behalf of the U.N. He has enlightened me on many horrors in the fishing industry, from the asian people who cut the fins from sharks then toss the dead carcasses back into the sea to the fact that cod only breed after they are fifty, and so many cod don't survive long enough to breed. It's scary!

I eat cows and pigs and all types of fish. I am a carnivore. I do not eat something if the people who provide it are up to some of this garbage. But I don't think it is wrong to eat animals. Hey, I have four cats, and they are like my kids. I love them so much. I think maybe I have eaten cat before (or dog or rat or squirrel or something. Hey, I was in Thailand). If I died in my house and SoS was out of town for awhile, and there was no cat food left in their bowls, those cats would eat me! I am just saying.......................

Honestly- the only thing an outside country like the US could do would be to establish an ecological model for how slaughtering dolphins long term would affect its status as a protected/endangered species, and the UN would then pressure the Japanese to make this illegal. What Hayden is doing is somewhat helpful from a cultural perspective- as she can influence Japanese fans of American television and culture.

Hunting in of itself can be very beneficial to the enviornment. When animal populations are out of whack- hunting can help. Not to mention the amount of financial contributions that hunters and the hunting industry lend to wildlife conservation programs and education.

Chances are that forest or park that we seek to preserve or protect has been helped tremendously by hunters.

I never thought of that...And now that I live in a state where I see 3-4 deer on trucks during hunting season......I guess I won't be sickened by the thought anymore;)....Although I can honestly say that when I did have venison I didn't like it....Too gamey I do like my chicken, pork, beef, turkey, I guess everything I grew up with..

That is weird. I have alot of deer by my house. I almost hit a buck last night. That would've been messy.

Do you have one of those bars on the front of your car to protect it in case of hitting a deer? That can mess a car up! I ask because, in Australia, where my Aunt and cousins live, people who live in rural areas have 'Ru-bars' on the front of their cars, because people alway hit the kangaroos, and people die!

Fun factoid about the deer.

I have to disagree with my honey on one part of his argument though. Hunting can control animal populations, WILD animal populations. When there are too many cats because jerk pet owners don't spay and neuter thair cats, so the population goes out of control, I think it is sick to open season on them, which has happened in many states. How are you going to defend hunting a domesticated animal as 'sport?' It is just a bunch of sickos who want to torture cats. It really pisses me off.

Domesticated animals are OUR responsibility to control in a humane manner, because WE DOMESTICATED THEM!!!

Your passion about this issue is admirable. The problem is what if Japan decides to say "no more cars or electronics for you"? There would be a LOT of ticked off Americans. I don't know what the answer is. It usually takes a pretty good-sized group/person with LOTS of publicity potential to get enough media attention for a boycott. I'm just not sure what the answer is here.

One thing I believe is that fathers who hunt should not think that just because they like to hunt their, sons will too. I have known a couple of men whose fathers took them hunting deer and such, and they have had problems for many years dealing the with memories of killing animals.

Hunting does not make a man masculine or macho. It just makes an animal dead. My boyfriend is pretty masculine and he thinks that hunting is cruel.
