Before this is over Southerners will be wearing paper bags over our heads--The shame! She's taken us back fifty years. Pretty soon we will be explaining that yes, we have indoor plumbing, no--not all of us have houses on wheels.
She is a real joke--Makes me want to cry! Anyone got a snot rag??

I love kellie, but man, she really turned me off with the snot rag thing. At first I thought this was just an act, but now I'm beginning to think she really is this dumb.

I think she's too cute. She has a beautiful voice, but I love country. She reminds me of the good stars like Patty loveless and Patsy Cline. I don't think she's stupid just because of her sayings, she was just brought up differently.
When I moved, people thought I was a freakin' ditz just because I didn't know what half the sayings they used meant.
When you grow up in one place, you'd be amazed how stupid or weird other places sound. My family that lives in North Carolina, a tiny little town, sounds just like her. Maybe that's why I like her, she reminds me of my family. But some of the crap they say make me wonder...

I also live in the south, and I wholeheartedly believe that Kellie is truly this ditzy 24/7.
I still like her though, but her "dumbness" moments are a bit wearing at times.

When you grow up in one place, you'd be amazed how stupid or weird other places sound. But really, c'mon... she's been in pageants before... she's been in singing competitions before... Charlotte's what, 45 minutes, an hour from Albemarle? Okay maybe a few hours by cart & donkey... I'm still thinking a majority of this is an act. But the snot rag thing WAS a big shift the other way for me.

You're right she's been, that's totally different from she grew up. Don't hate on people just because they act different from you. It's rude. I'd understand if she did something to piss someone off like talked about the president or discuss christianity, but just because she said snot rag? By the way, that's what I call it also, so I suppose my stupidity is too great for this board, eh?

:D Lighten up Rain! So you've said snot rag, but you haven't gotten on national tv and said it. I bet you might have selected kleenex, tissue, hankie, or maybe hankerchief when in front of 35 million people. (Those company manners our grannies told us about.)
AbsentElement made a valid point--I saw no hate...just an observation.

If they ever have an "American Idol Spelling Bee" my suggestion is that you not bother to enter...
Anyone got a snot rag??
OMG, the horror! She said SNOT on national television. The shame! What did you want her to say "Here Ryan, here is the the community cloth we've been using to wipe the mucous discharge from our noses." ????
I mean it's not like she stood up and said her period just started or that she needed to go poop! (Where is Frank when you need him?)

Ya I thought it was funny and Ryan did a great job of passing it off to
Elliott!! Kellie does appear backward, no doubt, and I am in agreement with
others who question just how dumb she really is? She is adorable but she
does get on the nerves with her, shall we say ignorance? I for one enjoy
seeing Chris and Katharine perform. But like I have said before....everyone
has their favorite(s) and we all have our individual tastes in music and people.
Even though it is suppose to be a singing contest, personality is going to
factor in no matter what. It is a great show and keeps us all entertained.
I am glad it is such a huge success.

Well, it seems you're missing my point here. I don't hate Kellie and I never said I thought she was stupid. I think she's hot and she's a mediocre singer. Those are things I can judge from my living room. I just don't know her personally and I can't allow myself to draw absolute conclusions about her character based on the 6 or so minutes of edited Kellie clips I see each week.
I simply meant that I was mostly leaning towards believing that the way she presents herself (or maybe I should say the way the producers present her) is an act. And I was pointing out that the reasons I'm leaning that way include the facts that she's competed in beauty pageants before and she lives very close to a major city with a major university. One could assume that participating in beauty pageants helps one to develop a certain level of poise and tact. And one could also assume that living so close to Charlotte, and UNC, would expose her to more of the urban or pop culture.
Finally, I pointed out that I was beginning to lean the other way... and starting to believe that the Kellie presented to us on American Idol is actually the REAL Kellie. "Snot rag," "What's a ballsy?" and "On paper?" all said on live TV, in front of 35 million people, isn't something the editors can take time to edit INTO a clip out of context. And she fires quotes such as these off as if they are involuntary reflexes. I point these quotes out because they are things you just don't really hear other people say on TV (well, except for maybe Jessica Simpson... "So is it chicken, or is it fish?"). So, what I'm saying is that it's starting to appear more and more to me that this is the real her.
Notice I didn't say that I thought she was stupid, dumb, an idiot, or anything else. I simply said I was previously leaning towards believing it's all an act and now I'm not leaning so far that way.
By the way, that's what I call it also, so I suppose my stupidity is too great for this board, eh?
I don't understand what this has to do with the price of rice in China... Just like most other people, I call a snot rag a snot rag too, but I wouldn't use that exact terminology if I were competing on national telvision.

I wasn't being defensive, except for the last part. I just feel bad for the girl because not only am I a fan of her, but for people to pick on her just because she said 'snot rag' is pretty sad.
And when I said don't hate, maybe you took that litterally, but I didn't mean it as in HATE the word it's self but don't be rude to her just because of her choice of words.
And yes, I did say rude because saying that she is an embarrassment to people from the south, is in fact rude. I'm just sticking up for someone that I believe has natural talent, and if you think otherwise, then so be it.
AbsentElement, most of that wasn't directed towards you.

AE, I am still wrestling with this issue as well, and I think that it would take a very intelligent person to 'act' as stupid as Kellie appears. Kellie is likely neither very intelligent nor stupid.
Frankly, she makes me laugh, and I enjoy her innocuous comments - they are a refreshing departure from the overindulgent and 'politically correct' ways that that seem to preoccupy us these days. I much prefer to listen to Kellie rather than Seacrest, Simon, or Paula whose collectively pompous, arrogant, rude, or stupid comments are much more difficult for me to absorb than anything Kellie has come up with.
I'm sure the producers feed off of her nature, in that they certainly haven't advised her to stop talking. Her comment 'I don't have an accent...' was another one to add to the list.

She is a hoot---even if part of it is put-on. But I think it is mostly for real; she is not a good enough actress to fake it that well.
I still don't think she's going to win the contest, but won't be upset in the least if she does.

First--I think she has talent, after all she is in the final eight, but I think she is the least talented woman left. Second--I don't think it's rude to say that someone is an embarrassment to themselves or to others. It is rude to attack someone with a differing opinion instead of attacking the issue or question. Lose the attitude and argue your opinion, it is much more effective.

You don't think that it's rude when someone says that a person is an embarrassment to southerners. Ok, since you stated your opinion, I'll state mine, that was one of the rudest comments I've ever heard. *please don't think i'm shouting, that's why there is no exclamation marks, as you can tell*

When I said Kellie Pickler is an embarrassment to Southerners it wasn't rude--it was the truth (to this Southerner anyway). I don't care if you shout, or if you think I'm rude. That won't make Pickler any less of an embarrassment to herself, in my humble opinion. But frankly, I don't think she is worth debating. I consider her a real non-issue...the least talented woman left...and getting pretty desperate to get votes, hence the dimwit behavior.
If you are one of those bloggers that feels they must always have the last word--have at it. I'm finding Kellie Pickler's behavior boring and those who continue to feel obligated to defend her even more boring.

Apparently you can't handle my opinions. Do i need to quote myself...

So calm down. I'm over it.
The only problem with this forum is that there is seven different opinions going on and they all clash somehow. So nevermind, keep on going if you want, I give up. Your opinion is obviously what everyone is thinking right this moment.
