Brian May of Queen stated that A.I. never contracted them to play on the show. With all of the crap that A.I. has been pulling on us this season, outright lying is just wrong. The show advertised "Queen Live" on the results show. We watched....No Queen. They lied to bolster ratings and it worked. Producers of the show must really think that we are "Lemmings". What's next? Be sure to tune in next week..........For....... Paris/Katharine mud wrestling?

They probably get away with it because on tuesday night they showed Queen with Paul play live for about 8 1/2 seconds when the Idolers were strolling up for their badly needed lessons from the great ones. So technically they did show it, sure would have been nice to see 2 or 3 numbers from Queen and Paul instead of watching the lamest versions of We Will Rock You and Fat Bottom Girls by Ace and Bucky again, whoa I'm still cringing, the medley sounded like something from a high school show, although my highschool had better singers, hope Queen got paid well.

This is what I think, and I know people are going to jump my bones for this, but it makes the best sense to me. This has nothing to do with them performing, but about the idols.
Queen was only on American Idol to get a more expanded fan base. They knew American Idol had millions of viewers, so they took that to their advantage. How do I come up with this? Because when Ace asked to change it up to make it his own, they disagreed, and that showed it all.
They weren't there to help, like someone once mentioned in another thread, they were there to get more fans and recognized by new people. If they were there for the idols then they would have helped them make the songs their own, but they didn't give a flying ****.
It's american idol, not a freakin' tribute to queen.

that does make perfect sense. I wondered why they wouldn't let ace change up the song the way he wanted to. It's becuz they didn't really give a c*** and that is really sad for the state of the show

Believe it or not, appearances by established artists on shows such as AI, Leno or Letterman are not contracted for---but simply agreed to. And the compensation the artist receives is almost always the union minimum, which is currently $716 per day. The artists do it not for the money but for the promotional value.
For what it is worth, I never heard any announcement that Queen was going to appear live on Wednesday's show. But remember, I live in Los Angeles where the show is tape delayed so they could have edited that out.
As far as I am concerned any group called QUEEN without Freddy Mercury is nothing but a cheap imitation of the original anyway, so I'm not sure we missed much. Still I doubt their no-show (if that's even what it was) is any cause for the conspiracy theorists to crank up the volume.
On his web site Brian May says there only agreed to help out the contestants but did NOT want to be on the show to perform. He also said that the whole Ace deal was a few seconds of a long conversation taken out of context. He expressed a lot of respect for Ace and his creative abilities. Ace had one idea, Brian and Co. came up with another, and they ended up with something that worked. Altering an established arrangement sometimes goes like that.

OMG, I actually agree with Falseidol, I never thought this day would come.
Well then, the producers shouldn't have made it look like that because they're toying with a guy's future. That could have been taken the wrong way and he could have gotten voted off for that if they would have left it on for two seconds longer.

First of all Queen needs an expanded fan base about as much as the ocean needs more kelp. Queen is one of the biggest and richest bands ever, they have even surpassed the Beatles in their own home land in the UK for chart success, so them needing to go on AI is a complete Joke, my guess is they just wanted too because they thought it was a decent idea, either that or their manager begged them too. They don't need anymore money or fame believe me. And as for the little peice of $#@& that just said the new Queen doesn't live up to Freddie, you are a moron. I too loved Freddie and did not think he was replaceable, but Paul Rodgers is phenominal. Just listen to the Return of the Champions DVD if you have any doubts. At the Queen/Freddie tribute concert in 92 when they had all those rock stars come out and play with them from Robert Plant, Axel Rose, George Micheal, Elton John, none of them and I repeat NONE of them can touch what Paul is doing with them. You obviously prefer such talents as Boy George and Justin Timberlake, I suppose you are an Ace fan too. Jack-O$#

I wouldn't say that Ace's performance 'worked' because you can't stick a falsetto in the middle of 'We Will Rock You', but... I'm still half glad that they didn't play seeing as they don't have Freddy Mercury anymore. So yeah. I was disappointed at first, but after thinking about it, everything was okay.... I guess.

Queen will never be the same again without Freddie. In fact this is the first time I've heard from them in years since his death. I do like their music, but hey, the truth is still there. They'll never live up to Freddie because his voice was one of a kind. It doesn't take a "jack ass" or a "jack off" to realize this.

I may be a moron, but you sir, are a maroon. Queen without Freddy is just another tribute band, no matter how good the remaining musicians might be.
Some of us aren't satisified with cheap knock-offs and don't going around pretending they are the real thing. Then again I'm sure there are lots folks like you---the easily fooled with low standards.

In the abstract I would have agreed, I never thought Freddie could be replaced. But on a whim I bought the new DVD Return of the Champions and was totally blown away, with Paul Rodgers (Who I was never any big fan of), but the DVD does not lie, he is INCREDIBLE. You should rent that before you voice an opinion for it is no cheap knock off. As a matter of fact the latest recent Brian May blog alludes to the fact that they have had such an over whelming response about their tour with Paul that they are indeed going to keep going and record new stuff with him.

As good as the band is, nobody is a Queen fan because of the guitar licks or other instrumentals. It's because of Freddie's voice and showmanship. I personally wouldn't want to watch Queen with another lead singer. That would be like watching or listening to Led Zeppelin without Robert Plant or The Who without Roger Daltrey. I like Paul Rodgers, but I don't want to hear him singing Queen songs. He can do his Free and Bad Company stuff, but I really don't want to hear him sing "Under Pressure" or "Another One Bites The Dust".

I'm telling you that's exactly how I felt too, until I heard that DVD, trust me on this one. It is really something unique. IF ITS GOOD ENOUGH FOR BRIAN and Roger, don't you think they know what they are doing and that they knew the flack they would get for trying this. You gotta listen to it before you slam it. I cannot think of any other example along these lines, for none exists, but this one is the real deal.
