With next week being Rod Stewart week, we will once again be subjected to a group of kids trying to sing songs that are geared for older listeners. This will not be the "Rocker Stewart" collection. But rather the "Old ladies love me now" collection. Moon River here we come!!!!!!!!!!

I just don't understand...what are they thinking this year?!? If I didn't adore Chris, I would be tempted to turn my tv off!

It's sad......... Bucky would have been brilliant at that.

This season musts be the "Let's Provide Work for Almost Retired Artists" themes on AI. Guess any artist that's still popular is working and can't make time for AI.

I thought the same thing as the 3 were nervously waiting to be told who was going home. Bucky has a raspy voice like Rod Stewart! He wouldhave done good. Oh well......

I love Rod Stewart! Y'all don't think it will be a lot easier to sing one of his songs than 'QUEEN'S'?!

Let's see......I wonder who will sing 'The First Cut is the Deepest'? Who would YOU like to hear sing:
Rod Stewart's version -
OR
Sheryl Crow's version - Katharine would be my choice (for this song)

I would love to hear Katharine sing "The First Cut Is The Deepest." And, everyone, don't forget... It's not just original songs by Rod Stewart they can sing.... they can sing any of the songs Rod sang by another artist. Wow, that sounds confusing! :)

Actually, he's just doing the coaching as Kenny Rogers did - they are singing song from 'The Great American Songbook'. Going over the list, I hope Taylor sings 'Georgia On My Mind' - that's one of them. For all of you who say he reminds you of a white Ray Charles - don't you agree. Afterall, he IS A (THE) SOUL MAN of American Idol - my idol - the best idol. Can you tell I'm hooked!

:D I'm sorry Pick, but I don't think Bucky would've been brilliant at any song. He was likeable, but really isn't/wasn't top five material.

I guess it's just as well that Bucky was voted off this week. Because he wouldn't have done well with the crap they're making them sing next week. Next week is going to suck royally. Rod Stewart hasn't been cool in about 30 years, and the stuff they're singing is going to be elevator music.

I know, they're trying get the most ridiculous, oldest artist to come on the show, I mean having Stevie Wonder was kinda alright, but come on now. I'm sorry I don't want to hear no Rod Stewart song or whatever they making they making these contestants sing. Whatever happened to them singing Prince songs, now that would've been a show. They expect the contestants to do good, but these tired ass songs they singing, nobody knows them. I'm sorry, I need to calm down, this whole season is messed up.

bigd13,
Rod is the man! I love him, i'm only sorry that they aren't singing his music. The contestants would have had a huge varity of songs. That busted my bubble.
However I agree, Prince would be huge!

I think that, if performing "classics", they need some new contestants! I don't get why AI is forcing these artists on them. Half of the contestants don't even grasp the brevity of whom they're "singing." Maybe a couple, but that's it. Shouldn't the artists/music be more user friendly? I'm tired of hearing the idol-hopefuls rip great, legendary songs to shreds.

Past contestants were very young but still performed the classics well. This is just a weird group.

Much has been said about Rod Stewart and much has been left unsaid.
Rod is that seasoned singer from Britain who was hot as a red poker back in the 70's in England. He has this weird hairstyle that attracted more looks than his gravelly voice.
As the years slipped into decades, a majority who have heard him sing were surprised that he was still around. It turned out that he actually had talent. Many have underestimated him.
His preference for tall blondes became a talking point. As usual, gossip magazines tagged the "stud" label on him. Rod probably revelled in it for a while. Now that he's on the softer side of 60 years, he has mellowed somewhat.
His voice has been a constant. It's husky-like, a bit on the lazy side but still charming and to some degree endearing, depending on who you are having dinner with when his song comes on.
If Rod is a no-talent Brit, he would be languishing in some retirement home south of Brighton, England. But since, he's shaking the charts on this side of Hollywood, he must be doing something right.
Yes, it's true, the remaining batch of contestants are subjected to some classics. Part of the reason is probably because the producers of the show like those songs, and the other reason is that if you can't sing the classics well, you probably will have a very short singing career.
Most ordinary people who frequent concerts, night-clubs and cabarets prefer these timeless classics. These are the people you call mummy and daddy. If you are single now, one day you too will join the club and you will probably be absolutely flabbergasted that you too like the evergreens.
The golden oldies is the litmus test in a way. You have got to sing them well, and in the process maybe add a touch of nostalgia to the occasion. If you are able to do that and pass with flying colours, then you will graduate from the academy of sentimental hits and be allowed to sing whatever songs that you fancy.
Watch Rod Stewart very carefully this coming Wednesday and see what may have escaped a whole of others.

Seriously, where is the good stuff? By that I mean the stuff that the majority of American Idol viewers can relate to? Let's have a "Nelly" week, or how about at least 90's week... arguably one of the best decades for pop music. Yeah, I know, they did "Songs of the 21st Century," but they all made horrible song selections.

Personally, I'd like to see 80's week. Can't go wrong with Duran Duran, Cindy Lauper, Def Leppard.... Chris doing some Whitesnake or Metallica... Taylor doing some John Cougar Mellencamp" Michael Jackson's probably running low on cash... let's get him on the show... after all he is the King of Pop... Second thought, Ace might actually do well with MJ. Better not have MJ week.

 Hmmm...how do I politely say that I think that is HOGWASH! I am a "mummy" of grown children and like many people my age--the classics we like are Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Cream...you are talking about music this generation's grandparents and great grandparents liked.

AI is definitely starting to show it's age!! Why Rod Stewart...because they wouldn't be able to get David Bowie. Why Kenny Rogers...instead of George Jones who they might have been able to get--who knows? the judges on AI are fond of telling the contestants that they sounded a bit kareokee (sp) AI is beginning to sound a bit kareokee.

By anyone's standards I am old (AARP sent me a letter the other day), but AI is even picking themes I consider OLD. I think AI has peaked and it is their own fault, they are beginning to bore the viewers with their themes. I am beginning to feel sorry for the contestants, who are challenged each week to make this boondoggle fly.

What's with these long posts? Are you writing a book? My attention span can't handle this. It's because I'm from the South.

Now thats an idea. I would love to hear some 80's coming from these contestants. That would be awesome. But I think Taylor would be great at "When a man loves a woman" the Michael Bolton version. What do you think?
