I have noticed for some time now that Elliot is a person who is very gifted!! Besides his medical problems, I believe he has other disabilitys. He is emotional, caring and a unique individual. Come on you all, lets us get behind this person who has a voice and talent and needs the confidence and tutering from the right people. Let us back him up for who he is and deserves and put him on the top where he belongs.

Helen,
I love Elliott, and agree with you. He is a special person, he's the nicest of them all, Chris would be 2nd with the love for his family.
A beautiful heart is hardest to find.

Helen:
I own a golden retreiver who is very gifted, has medical problems, and is emotional, caring and unique---but that doesn't mean I think he should be voted this year's American Idol.
AI is about finding the next American Pop star, and like it or not, that's a package deal of consisting of talent, looks, personality and what judges refer to as the "it" factor. Elliott has gobs of talent, no doubt, but unfortunately he is seriously lacking in the other three departments.
I haven't looked at the West Coast thread because the show hasn't aired out here yet, but I take it that Elliot didn't get the axe tonite. That's good because he is definitely more talented than Bucky or Ace although Bucky has that likability thing going. After that I don't see any way he is going to outlast Chris, Katherine, Kellie, Taylor and maybe even Paris if she survived this evening.
Besides, if Elliott is of the character that you suspect I doubt he would want you voting for him because you pity the guy.

I wouldn't vote for him 'cause I pity him, but because he has real talent. I am thinking he has the best vocals even though Taylor is still #1.
Helen
04-12-2006, 08:59 PM
First of all, Elliot is not a dog, he is a human being and you should not even be comparing him to your dog. 2nd, I am not voting for him because I pity him, you think that in your uncaring head and 3rd, I am voting for Elliot because he has talent, and 4th who says American Idol is voting for a Pop star? 5th, not all people like Idols who yell and scream their songs. Elliot may not reach the top but he will fare much better if he leaves early. The American Idol does not just have viewers from one generation. There are all ages watching and all viewers have certains tastes on music. I think you need to learn to have a little empathy. Chris is not the only Idol on the remaining show that has talent.
Helen
04-12-2006, 09:04 PM
Let us clear this up once and for all, I vote because of talent among other things and not because of pity. If that were the case, all of the Idols that were bumped off should be pitied. Maybe I conveyed the wrong message, but the things I heard on tonights show were just telling about Elliots life and things he has to deal with and I do believe he has a hearing problem also, so that would be hard for a singer I would think. He should be recoginized for that.

2nd, I am not voting for him because I pity him...
4th who says American Idol is voting for a Pop star?
5th, not all people like Idols who yell and scream their songs.
1st: You're right, I should not have made the comparison to my dog, especially since I am fonder of my golden retriever than I am of Elliott.
2nd: If you don't pity the guy, how come you started at least three threads telling everyone they should feel sorry him?
4th: The producers, that's who. But "pop music" cuts a very wide swathe. These days the "pop" genre consists of rock, country and r&b.
5th: Of the remaining candidates, the only yeller left is Chris---and that's only occassionaly. Although he's not my favorite, he is certainly one of the top talents on this year's show.
I am sorry that Elliott has a hearing problem in one ear, but frankly that's no big deal in the scheme of things, and doesn't affect his singing. It would be like saying we should vote for him because he as a limp. Now if he was completely deaf in both ears I might agree. But he's not so it's a non-issue.

Elliott won me over weeks ago singing Moody's Mood for Love. No one since that night has literally given me chills when they have sang. I know Simon said he had to win this competition with a song better than that, and that may be true, but that night was phenomenal. It doesn't hurt that he also appears to be a sincere and very decent soul. I vote for him every week!!

The bottom line is none of these idols (except maybe and I stress MAYBE Kat) have the chops and talent to really make it in this industry. This elliot kid is mediocre at best, I can see equivalent talent with any local band at any bar in town. Simons in trouble with these kids 'cause he's the one that's got to produce one. Kat could probably make it, but in this business you got to either be EXTREMELY talented like Carrie Underwood, or EXTREMELY lucky, if Simon can turn one of these kids into a star after the show, he really is a magic man. Those kids turned Queens anthems into the Brady Bunch sings Queen, I had to be admitted to the hospital last night after watching the butchering, not sense the latest IED in Iraq has the carnage been worse. Sorry guys, its the BOTTOM LINE.

Good for you Borch!!! I like Elliott and think his talent puts him in the upper middle of the pack. If he gives a stellar performance I would vote for him. However, I would never vote for him because I pity him!! That would put him on the same level as Kellie, who courts the pity vote. Take it from someone who has spent time in a wheelchair, no one who is disabled wants pity. Vote for him if you think his performance is worthy, but don't insult him by trying to give him something he hasn't earned.
This is American Idol--not American Pity.

I hope not False. That is what is wrong with Idol--People that vote because of pity, or because someone is HOT--Not how they sing.
If everyone that is asking "What is wrong with American Idol this year?" voted for the best singers/performers then we would have a better show to watch. I would've loved to have seen Mandisa sing "Who wants to live forever? The song she had planned to sing--but she is fat and so she didn't get the vote. Never mind that Bucky should've gone sooner.
I'm getting tired of people saying, "that was his/her best performance." Never mind that it still sucked air. Come on people--vote for the BEST SINGER.

Couldn't agree more Midol. But the same crowd who thinks we should vote for Yamin because "he's been through alot" sit around suggesting that people shouldn't vote for McPhee because "she hasn't been through enough".
Chris has a boatload of talent, but many of his supporters plan to vote for him only because's they think 'he's real dreamy' but then turn around and shake their fist at anyone who supports Kelly because they think "she tries to hard to be cute".
Opinions vary, but if Frank Sinatra was in his prime and on the show some of Ace's supporters would actually tell you Ace is the better performer---and mean it.
The voting system is badly flawed, but that is part of the show's appeal (especially for the the fanatics) so the producers are not about to change it.

True, Frank Sinatra? What about Bob Dylan? He wouldn't have made the top 12--His nose too big, hair too curly, etc. Then Frank's idea, support Ace, and watch Simon try to turn that sow's ear into silk--would be hilarious.
The producers will try something different if the show continues down Milk Toast Blvd. because viewers will get bored and quit watching.

Neither Dylan, nor his country counterpart Willie Nelson would have ever gotten beyond the first round of the AI auditions and I can't say I would have blamed the judges for voting thumbs down.

Only beacause my 'ears' can't speak for themselves. But sometimes, when I'm bored, I 'listen' for my mouth.
My only problem with Willie is that he seems to think that God gave us noses so we could sing through them. Everytime I hear Willie sing I end up visualizing that Lily Tomlin character "Ernestine the Telephone Operator" :D

I did notice that Elliott sings VERY well when it's not under the pressure of trying to keep himself out of the bottom 3. His vocals on the montage they did at the start of the show (nobody votes on that) and when he was told he was in the bottom 3 (already here, nothing to lose) were excellent to say the least.
I agree with Randy, "This boy can sing".

I just relistened to Elliot singing "Somebody to Love" ... aside from a couple of notes , he did a great performance ... I also listened to Simon's fave , Kellie , who also had some pitch problems on a couple of areas ... but clearly had lighting , costumes, and makeup on her side ... Elliot and Chris are my two faves... Bucky will be missed by my son , Luke...

Yes, it's no secret that Elliott is facing more physical challenges than most guys his age. Does he gripe about them? I don't think so.
Is it fair that we make fun of him? I think the answer is obvious. For Elliott to advance this far in the contest and still retain his humility is one of life's nicest surprises.
Personally, I like Elliott very much. He reminds me of a couple of colleagues and friends whom I have met over the years. They too have physical problems that they don't talk much about.
These people learn to deal with what life has given them. In Elliott's case, life has made amends by giving him a great voice. He may or may not enter the last four but in my books, I know I like him very much already as a person.
I hope Elliott goes far, as far as his dreams will take him. We should learn from people like Elliott. Funny, how sometimes when you grow up normal in every way, and you can sometimes still feel sorry for yourself.
Then one fine day, an Elliott-type of person walks into your line of vision, and you are reminded what you have always taken for granted.
Some of us here may innocently make crack jokes at Elliott's expense. Frankly, I think he's too much of a man to let it get to him, so I walk in the same spirit that Elliott has made very much of his persona.
Water off the duck's back, like they say.

Elliott doesn't suck, but the poor man looks like Jim Nabors on a bad hair day. I know that sounds petty of me but the more you are the total package, the better your chances of succeeding.
You don't have to be drop dead gorgeous, but at least be somewhat normal looking. Most people would probably agree that Chris, Kat and Kellie are at the top of the food chain as far as looks are concerned. But take Taylor or Paris. Both are attractive people but I don't think gorgeous is the adjective that springs to mind. Mandisa had a gorgeous face but too much of everything else.
Doesn't mean a geek can't win. Just that much harder I suspect.

It's too late, I was bored weeks ago. But, I'm still watching. I am now totally onboard with getting the two worst contestants to the final show. Reuben wasn't exactly Denzell either, and he still won. Clay looks like an elf and he came close. On the other hand, I think there is a reason that girls win AI most of the time. It's because of looks. They are alot more marketable than the male constestants are because they can use their sex appeal. Hey, I see Watcher took your advice and put spaces between lines. Good job!

I agree. I think Elliott has the most raw talent and it's so sad that just because other people dance around like idiots (Taylor), are dumb blondes who have to be sure to make some stupid comment every single time she's interviewed just to remind viewers how incredibly stupid she is (Kellie), or she might be faking and that would be an insult to all Kellie fans because that would mean that she actually thought "everyone who votes for me will be able to relate to my ignorance about everything". Elliott doesn't have to shout and wear black eyeliner now to make himself appear to be a true hard core rocker, even though he isn't all that hard core, (Chris) and he doesn't have to dance around and then after their song is over, when being interviewed by Seacrest, sing their replies (Paris). I would mention Ace but he's so not in the same league as Elliott, it doesn't matter. The only other person on this whole show that I can stand is Katharine, hence my avatar of her. I think she is pretty, talented, smart, good personality, and should win, but if she doesn't she will still do just fine without AI paying her to sing songs they think she should sing.
I think Elliott or Katharine should win. I think beyond a doubt the LAST person who should win is Kellie Pickler. We do not need a white trash version of Carrie Underwood, and I wish the dumb judges would have never let Pickler in this competition. If you remember, Paula didn't think she was good enough, but the two MEN thought since she was "hot" they would let her come to Hollywood. She should have been sent to the lobby crying that she wasn't good enough so we'd never have to endure her stupid "calamari" and "what's a ballsy??" remarks. I am so sick of her playing dumb role. Do you realize she's had a pretty good life even if her dad is in jail. She was Ms. Aberlmarle or whatever, where she sang in her talent show to try to go on to be in the Miss North Carolina Pagent, and yet she pretends to be so naive and dumb. What a great actress!!! She's playing all you people who are fans of hers!!!!
