Email from back ground vocalist, Susan Marshall, regarding Guy Sebastion recording.

Hey girl...it went GREAT!! That Guy Sebastian has got IT in strides! He reminds me of a blend of Sam Cooke and a modern day/urban version of Nat King Cole. He's a singing star for real. And...Curry and Alan were GREAT as well. Jackie and I were there from 4 until maybe 10:30 and they were ON THE BALL TOTAL PRO'S!

and confirmed, after a query by our forummers
Susan Marshall could be this Susan Marshall. It sounds like she'd know what she's talking about. I haven't heard her, but she's on my 'to do' list.

Look at what I just found on Ardent Forums, a post by Curry Weber.

They've almost finished (for the time being) in Memphis. Rough mixes were to be done today, then Guy is away in New York and London for 2-3 weeks before he goes back to Memphis for the final mixing.

btw

Been thinking. Went to a great show tonight (would have popped a couple of changes myself, but that happens with anything :) )
anyhow

tonight have been chatting about just HOW superb a live artist Guy is.

Truly.

Guy Sebastian has such a connection with the audience, absolutely supreme.

I don't know that I can think of another with SUCH a connection PLUS such a huge talent, although Elton John comes to mind.

Weve just come from Zingara at Jupiters. Great comedian there, hes been on for several years and HE has connection - he has to, he mimes, mostly - a real clown but fabulous.

there was a troupe of georgian male dancers - nice to see we have some hormonal pluses for the ladies

and their particular act was just brilliant, full of total dynamics and pretty good connection too.

Guy has ALL that
PLUS an absolute brilliance in tempo / timing
PLUS that voice!

Guy Sebastian is like the Leonardo di vinci of the modern stage

Not quite the right place, but meanwhile I'll pop this here

Music guru John Foreman has worked closely with thousands of budding stars in this three years at Australian Idol. What he has noticed in all that time is that success stories contain classical music training. It gives you a launching pad from which to fly, says Foreman, who is the ambassador for what he calls the classical answer to Idol, the $60,000 Australian Chamber Music Competition which starts in Melbourne tomorrow.

"A lot of the Australian Idol winners have had some formal training ..... it is
important to know how to read music, he says.

"Guy Sebastian, I do know that he can sit down at the piano and construct a melody, put together a chord sequence and come up with new and inventive chord structures".

"Casey Donovan studied music and that has been important in terms of her being able to learn melodies and harmonies quickly". "Anthony Callea knows the basic structures of music and has started taking some piano lessons. THe more he learns the formal structures, the better he will be ....

Cherub stopped typing there because it went onto the crux of the article...

This is from a couple of years ago, and John Foreman is the Musical Director for the orchestra for Australian Idol. He's an amazing musician himself, hosts "A night with John Foreman" a series once a year, where Guy jazzed up for the final bracket, and he's written an enormous number of pieces himself. One of his John"s jazz records received some big award - but unfortunately I haven't been able to get the album.

And we also know that John and Guy worked together musically on Guy's own arrangements of his songs in the competition.
