When I was riding back home from Big Bend on my GS, this song played over my Zumo. When this was playing the sun was coming up behind some mountains off to my right and the sky was turning all those shades of red, pink, blue, and purple that you get out in the desert. The mountains were silhouetted by the sun coming up behind them. I remember looking up and saying to God "Now you're just showing off."

WOW I don't have time to listen to all of those but I am shocked that nobody posted "Awesome God" By Rich Mullins. For me personally they might not be Hymns but when it comes to Christian Music give my anything by Larry Norman. Larry died in February of this year after being sick for a long time.

I would love to discuss Larry Norman with some of you if you are familiar with him. He is pretty much the Father of Christian Rock but his music was Folk, Rock, Blues, Beautiful Ballads as well. He even had a Sunday School type song Sweet Sweet Song of Salvation. I wish we'd all been ready was featured in some Christian films about the rapture. He is not a classically great singer. Certainly wouldn't have been a threat on American Idol. You tube him look for I wish we'd all been ready, If the Bombs Fall, Great American Novel.
Another great voice is Michael English. Couldn't find it, but he has a song called "Finally Free" that's on his "Heaven to Earth" CD that's so beautiful it will bring tears to your eyes. I do like his voice. I think that's why I liked Elliott from AI5, he reminds me of Michael English.

THR thank you so much for posting this. I listened to the You Tube of Sweet Sweet Song of Salvation and I loved it. Normally I only like that song OK but that was a wonderful performance. I think the important thing is that Larry's Beautiful Spirit came across in that performance. Larry was VERY controversial in those days. In more recent years and with more mainstream contemporary artists out there Larry has been somewhat forgotten but I will tell you he is/was the most important artist in modern Christian music. He fought the battles against those who tried to put Christian music in a boring box. He was an amazing ambassador. Those who saw him in concert would hear Larry simply start talking and he would hold them spellbound. No other way to put it. Did you listen to other songs by Larry? I know Great American Novel is on You Tube. I wish we'd all been ready would be a great one to look for. Two of his best songs after his hay day of the 1970s and early 80s were If the Bombs Fall and Messiah. See if you can find those.

I actually saw larry the first time he performed this song in front of an audience. Larry as he got older and sicker started forgetting words to some of his songs. In this recording his voice is not on but with Larry it wasn't really about his voice to me anyways.When this recording was made he was performing with family and friends and not high quality musicians. I found a Larry Norman video on You Tube titled 1985 Medley. It is Larry by himself and his guitar. Four minutes in he switches into "If the Bombs Fall" which is in some ways the greatest love song I have ever heard. For those into highly produced studio stuff this isn't it but for simple and poignant this is awesome. I don't know how to post the video here but I will try to post the link to youtube and see if this works.

Nice song. After watching that I have to conclude that Chris is a Christian. It seems that American Idol has far more than it's share of Christian artists and that is something that encourages me to keep supporting American Idol.
Mandissa, from AI5 was pretty up front about her faith. She used to sing at the Beth Moore conferences when she was on the road (our church hired one of Beth's singers when she was in town). Mandissa sang Mary Mary's "Shackles" during one of her performances. Madissa was pretty close to Melinda from AI6. Chris Sligh used to be a worship leader at his church before he entered AI6. Heck, even Cook sang a Switchfoot song that's a regular on Christian radio.

I loved Untitled Hymn (Come to Jesus). I allready knew it and had actually organized a dramatization of that song for a Vacation Bible School service. All the Earth is nice but to me is kind of forgettable.

That is my favorite worship song our Pastors wife uses sign language when we sing that song and she is so fluid it's beautiful!No one in our Parish is deaf but that is her 1st language so it comes so natural to her...

Just before my husband passed away I had been listening to Elvis Presley's Gospel music in my vehicle...well to make a long story short the next time I started up the vehicle to go and make arrangements foe his funeral Elvis was still playing in my CD player and this was the song that was playing....I still cry every time I hear it,I miss my husband ever much...:pi_cry: The song is beautiful!!!!!

The same thing happened to me exactly...My husband passed away and the 1st time I got into my vehicle after I received the news (he passed away in an auto accident out of state) Farther Along by Elvis was playing and I cry every time I hear it...Now I like to think that God made sure that when I turned my car off that Farther Along would be playing...God knows when it's our time and he brought my husband home...
