President Bush is a competitive guy. But this is one contest he would rather lose. With 18 months left in office, he is in the running for most unpopular president in the history of modern polling.
The latest Washington Post-ABC News survey shows that 65 percent of Americans disapprove of Bush's job performance, matching his all-time low.
In polls conducted by The Post or Gallup going back to 1938, only twice has a president exceeded that level of public animosity -- Harry S. Truman, who hit 67 percent during the Korean War, and Richard M. Nixon, who hit 66 percent four days before resigning.
The historic depth of Bush's public standing has whipsawed his White House, sapped his clout, drained his advisers, encouraged his enemies and jeopardized his legacy. Around the White House, aides make gallows-humor jokes about how they can alienate their remaining supporters -- at least those aides not heading for the door. Outside the White House, many former aides privately express anger and bitterness at their erstwhile colleagues, Bush and the fate of his presidency.
Two points? That's all he needs to be the most unpopular president since polling began nearly a century ago?
Bush has this one in the bag.

What I find funny is that he is their with dear old dad.....I think this will be the end of any Bush becoming president again!!!

It doesn't really matter what his approval ratings are. This would only be relevant if this was his first term, and he was trying to get elected again. He's already been elected twice, so he can't run again, and Cheney isn't seeking office, so there's really no need to impress anyone. It's pretty much a license to do what the hell he wants, regardless of what anybody thinks.

Not everybody hates him. I still think he's great, and so do alot of other Texans.

My family has been in Texas for 38 years and they can't stand the old geezer which cracks me up because he really isn't that old.....He has been a piss poor prezident and he will go down in HISTORY as such!! What a way to make a name for the family...:eek:

I enjoy reading about all the different points of view on Bush and the future Presidents. It's a good read I must say!!
I'm no -W- fan either. But that's mostly because of his poor execution of the Iraq war plus his utter refusal to obey the law in enforcing our immigration laws. Failure to secure the borders post 9/11 is inexcusable. Yet I have to provide reams of private data so the government can 'secure' their facilities. Uh, yeah. I've been working here for over 12 years and now their having my life history is going to make anything more 'secure'. What a joke. DHS should be shut down. There's absolutely nothing that DHS has done that couldn't have been accomplished by changing a few laws.
Execution of the Iraq war is a joke.
DHS is a joke.
