I was being sarcastic.When People say Voters are voting like a beauty contest, what most are implying is that Ace gets votes because hes cute, somehow they forget that the same could be said for Katharine! People have different tastes in music and talent. But when Ace gets votes somehow its only because of his looks.

For sure Katharine sings much better than Ace, no possible comparison.

I do not think that people vote in her only because she is beautiful, but, as she is a cute white skinny girl, for sure a lot of people prefer to vote in her than in better contestants, as Mandisa, who do not fit the beauty standard profile of a "hollywood star". It is my opinion.
Despite of that, for me it will not be a big problem if Kat become one of the top 3. I like her voice, my only concern about her is that she needs to improve her perfomance on stage. I believe that the concept of "whole package" only applies to Chris and Kat, who are not only pretty faces, but more than this they are great singers, no matter how they looks. It is important to make clear that I do not like the "whole package" concept. My favourite is Chris, because he has the best voice and are totally ready to be a big star. And I also love Paris and Elliot voices. And Taylor do not have a big voice, but he has a lot of style and talent.

Ace, Kellie and also Bucky are other cases... They do not have a vocal range and talent to deserve to be at the finals. Their looks are much much better than their voices, and these candidates in my opinion are only getting lots of votes due their looks. And, unfortunately, maybe Ace and Kellie can be at the finals... and in their case they do not have a great voice as Kat or Chris.

An intelligent conversation would have been: I dont feel that we the general public as personally reaponsible for the mental health of our youth. I think it is because of the "fast food" lifestyle that america has started due to the fast pace, busy lifestyle. This is in part because of the need for multi-income families. I also believe that what is expected of our youth started in Hollywood. The casting of slim, beautiful people makes our children feel they have to fit that image.

I couldnt have said a word, that would have been your opinion, and a pretty good one at that. But what you said is.......thats why you dont like any female, unless she looks like the bride of Frankinstein...

The religious comments she's made [I]may have changed SOME of America's feelings for Mandisa, but I, myself, admired her for that. Some people may feel that there is a time and a place to act on their religious beliefs, but I disagree with that! I think that Ace is a good singer, but not good enough to win American Idol, and miles away from the vocal range of contestants like Chris, Paris, Kat, Elliot and also Taylor. Off course it is only my opinion, as it is only the opinion of some people - who loves his smile - that he is a better singer than the other contestants... And, as in a democracy I have the right to expose my opinion, I will continue to think and to say that the majority of the votes given to Ace is more related with his beauty than with his vocal talent, because in my opinion he looks much better than actually he can sing. A lot of people agree, a lot of people disagree... that is life!
And, as you said, just because you love Ace it doesn't mean that I or anybody else need to agree with you and to think that he is really a great singer.
For me he is just ok, but I am sure that with his looks he will become a pop star, no doubt about it. But in my opinion he does not deserve to win American Idol.
And just to clarify, Kat is not my favourite constestant (I prefer Chris and Paris) and Ace is not the worst constestant (Bucky is really the weaker one, and Kellie is just a bad copy of Carrie)

Well, it's quite obvious that I'm a Mcphee fan, but just dropped by to ask why so many people think she's "arrogant" and full of herself?

I've read a similar thread about her in this forum, and most of you who don't like her say that she's full of herself, like when she commented on her "smouldering" look....or how she tried to "show" her butt?

Simon's son replied to this, and gave a very solid response. Also pointing out how other contestants are using their looks, and sex appeal as much as Katherine(Personally, I believe it's just her natural charm).

Actually, if I remember it right, it was Ryan who asked Katherine where she learned that "look" she gives to the camera after each song, and she replied about how she and Constantine went to the same college, and then someone said she showed off her butt?

Please remind me when she did that, and not at times when the cameraman himself gave shots of her ample goods. She doesn't controll the camera, so I don't know where you got that from.

Also, she herself said she was very insecure in school(hard to believe), and I think that attributes to how she "acts"...... I don't want to go into it, but at times, when you're nervous, and trying to put up a facade, then you may seem as if you're trying to hard, or fake.

This is what I get from Katherine at times. Not a "snobby" attitude, but a shy, and endearing thing. This is why Katherine is my favorite idol..because she's not only beautiful outside, but a truly wonderful singer.

It wasnt camara control that I was talking about. She clearly stated while on stage with Ryan....oh, did I just show my butt on tv? hehe then turned around and did it again. But this isnt the only thing that turned me against her. I am one of the first on this forum to say this about Katharine. I believe it to be true. However, I think she has a nice voice and is very pretty. Those qualities are what made me like her early on, ive just changed my mind.

I started this tread not because I really believe Katharine is getting votes only because of her looks (read the bottom of my initial thread). I just got tired of people saying that Ace is only getting votes because of his looks,so I wanted to point out that shes as beautiful and he is handsome.
So that vote theory goes both ways. What I do believe is 100% true....
Both are getting votes for their talent and both are getting some votes because of their looks. I just wanted people to realize Ace has true fans that enjoy his singing!

I agree. When you are shy you are many times mistaken for being snobbish or arrogant. But when Katharine sings that completely disappears. Try listening to her with out watching. Her voice is very very good and she infuses her songs with emotion. Last week was not a great eek for anyone, but she and Chris were very, very good.

I want to start by saying that I respect your opinion, and your willingness to stand up for what you believe in (or who you believe in.)
But I am one of the Katherine non-followers, I just wanted to let you kow its not the "shy" that you see in her that makes some of us think she is a bit arrogant. Also, I think she has a nice voice but dont enjoy her performances. One of the latest issues that I have with her is the way she has the need to a "sultry" song, Why? why does she need to "act" sexy? Why cant she just perform, and if it's sultry....great, if not, thats ok too. Not every song, every performance, every time you get on stage, you need this. Some will say that she's just sexy, and we all see sexy different so you like what you like. But why does she say....I want to do the sultry side of country? Is it always necessary?

I agree. When you are shy you are many times mistaken for being snobbish or arrogant. But when Katharine sings that completely disappears. Try listening to her with out watching. Her voice is very very good and she infuses her songs with emotion. Last week was not a great eek for anyone, but she and Chris were very, very good.

Chris and Katherine are truly top notch...and it's theirs to lose.

Maybe people are disconcerted with Katherine's disposition, but that should be little importance if this is a singing competition. True...one should be approachable, and likable....but both have given solid, and usually spectacular performances.

Dang...when I saw Katherine grooving on that stage with that "peculiar" Faith Hill song...I was gaga with amazement.

Her voice soared...and Chris's performances have also been very memorable.

This really has been the best season yet!

I want to start by saying that I respect your opinion, and your willingness to stand up for what you believe in (or who you believe in.)
But I am one of the Katherine non-followers, I just wanted to let you kow its not the "shy" that you see in her that makes some of us think she is a bit arrogant. Also, I think she has a nice voice but dont enjoy her performances. One of the latest issues that I have with her is the way she has the need to a "sultry" song, Why? why does she need to "act" sexy? Why cant she just perform, and if it's sultry....great, if not, thats ok too. Not every song, every performance, every time you get on stage, you need this. Some will say that she's just sexy, and we all see sexy different so you like what you like. But why does she say....I want to do the sultry side of country? Is it always necessary?

Yes, I wouldn't agree at all with someone purposely TRYING to act like a floozy on stage.

But the thing is...I don't see anything "forced" about Katherines appeal.

It's not only the physical characteristics about her, but her confidence...and "natural charm" that attracts me.

I guess you see someone "trying" to be sexy, and obnoxious...but I see someone "naturally" appealing on stage.

She doesn't look shy at all. :) But then again, sometimes people at my school forget that I'm shy these days because I've started approaching people and talking to them a lot more. Two years ago, I'd definitely be labelled as shy! And yet again, maybe Katharine was only referring to a relative insecurity, nothing comparable to that of deep timidity.

Thank you for correcting me. I want to do Kath"a"rine proud...so I should at least spell her name right!

And yeah..it's not that she's insecure NOW...but when she was younger, she had insecurity issues she had to go through. She certainly seems VERY confident now...untouchable even...though I still see that vulnerability in her that says "please don't hate me".

That's why sometimes she seems so "bold". In retrospect...shy people are very self-centered. She probably is confident in herself now...but at times, especially during live performances...she feels she has to put up an "untouchable" front. So she says odd things at odd times..and it sometimes comes off as FORCED.

What odd things does she say? I don't think of the things she says odd, but I can sort of see what you're saying.

This is the point where I have to keep the rest of my thoughts to myself! Digging any deeper into Katharine's personality is pure speculation... it's good that we don't know her that well. Makes her more interesting. :)

I don't know Katharine personally...but this was just what I "See".

It's fun to just go along and see what she does next. And what I mean about the odd sayings at different times...I mean the "way", and sometimes abrupt things she says.

She doesn't do it often, but the thing where she told Simon he just didn't like country...it was "odd"....but it wasn't mean in any way. Some people saw it as cheeky....but I saw it as Katharine trying to lighten it up a bit. Simon with his musing self and all.

Well, I guess it would be "odd" if you don't know anyone who would say something like that. I know I wouldn't say it like that if I even had the guts to say it. Katharine strikes me as a person who knows what she believes, and so she is willing to say it, without any intention of hurting people. In fact, I think she was trying to help people by defending ALL of the contestants - but she is willing to take criticism when it is constructive. I find it sweet that she said that to Simon, believe it or not... because she did say that Simon is her favorite judge because he's honest... it was like she was telling him: "Just keep being honest." Also, the abrupt way she said it - I think that's because she was thinking the whole night that he had a problem, and then after he said her song was "peculiar," she had to say something.

And of course I know this is just what we "see." But I like to know how you see things. :)

I don't understand when people say Ace and Katherine only get votes because of their looks! That is crazy!!!
People vote for them because they CAN sing! Ace is beautiful, I enjoy watching him while he sings! I can also be doing something else while the show is on and love listening to him. Ace and Katherine will sell lots of cd's because they have beautiful voices that people will enjoy listening to. They can't help the fact that they are beautiful people!
