The top (9) singers this year are all about equal in the talent department...
...so I think it's all gonna come down to looks.
I bet Mandisa will be gone tonight (April 5)...because she is least attractive
of the bunch!
Mandisa has a nice face but needs to slim down a little.
Most of America doesn't appreciate "Big Butts" the way I do!
I think Mandisa is HOT...but I know I'm in the minority.

It already has. Most of the posts about Ace are about how hot he is. Most of the posts about Mandisa are about how fat she is. If Kathirine wasn't as cute as she is, she wouldn't be here because although she has a good voice, she's not very exciting.

I agree, because it surely won't be because of the singing talent. I think that the producers are really scrambling to save this season. They may have outsmarted themselves this year by picking personalities as opposed to talent. The one overriding aspect of this years competition is the lack of interest by viewers as to who wins. Another thing that they are going to have to deal with is that they are going to have to pay one of the personalities one million dollars. How are they ever going to be able to market any of the finalists? One last thought, just how big do you think one of Mandisa's thighs measure.....? I'm guessing 30 inches.

Her thighs gotta be over 35 inches each. Earl Campbell has nothing on her. If you're laying in the bed with her and her leg is on top of you, buddy, you aint movin'!

I did not have a true favorite until Ace sang Father Figure.
He did an AWESOME job.
Yes, he has made some bad song choices, but he can sing his booty off!
When I buy his CD I wont be looking at his face, so I will buy his CD because I like to hear his voice.
Can it really be so hard to believe that a person can be great looking and talented?
Simon would not have voted him into the finals if he couldnt sing.
Mandisa was a heck of a talent. She had more vocal range than anybody. I think she got ripped, just because of her sizeThe top (9) singers this year are all about equal in the talent department...

I don't think her size had a whole lot to do with it... face it, she tore Shania's song to painful shreds! But my husband and I were talking, and we think she's already got 2 careers lined up: a Gospel music career and a spokeswoman for Jenny Craig (Come on, think "Kirstie Alley"). This is not being mean. I think it's highly plausable.

I am SO glad that someone else thinks the same thing - you said exactly what i've been thinking - he does have a great voice and even if he doesn't win we will be hearing him singing one way or another

Sorry but I agree that "size" has a lot to do with it...
Ok, Mandisa was not great last night... but based just on the recent performances (including last week) how we can explain that candidates like Ace and Bucky are still in the competition??
For me the answer is easy: because they are white good looking guys (ok, one is much more than other)...
Just to make it clear: I have nothing against Ace, I really think that he seems to be a good guy, and he actually has a good voice (and a great falsetto), but please we all know that he only stay in the competition because he has that beaty face and a lot of girls is voting for him just because - as someone here said - "he is sooo hot".
If we want to talk about voice and style, for sure we have much more better candidates... as Elliot, Taylor and Paris, but as they are not the classic beauty standard I am afraid that they should be the next to be voted off!
In my opinion this edition will not became a disaster because we have a "perfect" candidate who fit the two sides (people looking for real talent and people looking for beauty): Chris.

It has been from the get go! I think it sucks that Mandisa left, she was the most talented in this whole competition in my opinion. To me personally, I don't care what size a person is, what race they are, what they look like, its all about the music people will either like it or they won't. I think its about the music first and then people start to look at the person singing it. Mandisa was the best out of this whole group hands down. She could sing anything, even when they did the country theme, it might not have been the best song choice for her, but she could sing unlike some of the others. I'm going to miss her so much! I'm seriously about ready to start crying. Hopefully we will hear more from her and she will put out a cd, I can't wait for that.
Ace, Katharine and Kellie obviously are all about looks, if they didn't look the way they did they would have been sent packing a long time ago. I don't care what people say, I'm not going to believe anything different because in my opinon I don't think either one can sing that well anyways. I just think its wrong that some people are still in the competition for the way they look instead of talent, its really wrong. Especially since people have already been let go that should still be there and deserve to be there instead of some that are now. Katharine, at lease she can kinda sing, when she isn't trying to hard to impress, but also if she didn't look the way she did I don't think she would have lasted either.
Ace, Kellie and Bucky should not still be in this competition at all. Actually I'm starting to believe what others are saying about the show being rigged, I think having the vote for the worst site is having a influence on the show no matter what they say. Something just isn't right, because looking at the people they have now and the last few that have gone home, it doesn't make sense at all.

Come On People, She Can Sing Alright And Yes Shes A Bit Large, But Really Now I Could Have Dressed Her To Impress Instead Of Not Even Wanting To Look At The Tv Screen.

Mandisa had a beautiful face. It shone. But, people are listening to the songs and how each perform week by week and this week proved it. I voted for the person that sang the best songs and whom I liked when i heard them. I did not like katherine's song Tuesday night, nor Mandisa's. This is how I vote. Kellie does not have a quality voice, just okey.

I hear you, Anonymous. Come on, man. She was by far the best female singer in the competition. That voice! She can sing any damn thing. I rarely agree with Paula because she is nice about everyone & blah blah blah but when she said that Mandisa could sing the phonebook & all that, I agreed completely.
Besides her size, do you guys notice that whenever a hot favorite has a not-so-hot performance, they land in the bottom three the next night? Like last week, Katharine, who'd never been in the bottom three, was standing there wondering how the heck it'd happened. I don't know if it's because people expect more from the better singers & are thus more unforgiving when they slip up but they have got to look at the overall talent instead of judging according to isolated performances.
Kellie has always been extremely unspectacular. And yet, she's never even in the bottom three. But oh, when someone like Kat or Mandisa doesn't deliver as expected, there they go. I think that sucks, because you're just sacrificing a more deserving singer & giving the undeserving ones a chance to bombard our eardrums with more painful renditions of great songs.

As a classically trained singer and a 'BBW', Mandisa was a joy for me to watch every week. I was heartbroken that she was the one to leave. It disgusts me that people like the idiotic Kellie are still around when true talents like Mandisa get voted off. I've agreed with every loss so far until now. I thought for sure Mandisa would be in the top three. Now, I'm just not sure. I love Ace, I think he's absolutely beautiful and I thoroughly enjoy watching him, but he is not the strongest singer and I'm kind of appalled that he's gone further than she has. Mandisa will be missed, but she will go very, very far, American Idol winner or not.

This really is a beauty contest considering Mandisa went home. Despite weight issues, Mandisa is the total package, she can sing, she can perform, and has emotion when she sings. I can't believe she is gone and people like Kellie, Bucky, and Ace are still there. This season is really becoming a dissapoint. Chris, Elliot and Paris are the most talented ones and the only ones I like and considering the way things are going they probably are going to go home eventually. This season sucks.

If this is a beauty contest, then Chris and Elliot's days are numbered.

but if it was a beauty pagent, wouldnt taylor and elliot already be gone?!?!?
Wasn't there some discussion on rumors of AI4 votes being rigged? This vote kind of makes me wonder. Ace and Bucky should have been gone long ago. Ayla should have at least made it into the top 12, not the girl (forget her name) that did the terrible "What About Love" Heart rendition and then left the next week. Gideon was also a shock as I thought he had a better voice than some that are still on the show.
AI5 already has degenerated into a 'beauty contest' and I'm debating whether or not I want to bother watching much more. Mandisa should have stayed. But I guess she couldn't overcome the 'looks' issue and didn't get the "she's soooooo hot" vote that Kellie and Ace appear to be holding on to.

I have mixed feelings about the whole issue. As a man, I will only really address it from that viewpoint, so I can only make minor observations about the male contestants.
Mandisa was one of my favorites. I felt as a performer she's put together more memorable numbers than any of the female contenders. She's literally slayed us all on some nights. When she sang on 50's week- her performance had definite sex appeal to it- Simon likened it to a "strip-song". I think the only female that can even hope to keep up woth her vocally is Katharine.
But having said that, I realize that attraction is something that helps the public decide who to vote for, including me. Sure- I pay close attention to who is performing well vocally, but it certainly doesn't hurt if the voice is coming from an aesthetically pleasing package. The two main reasons I prefer Katharine over Mandisa is 1) Katharine exhibits better voice control, and her voice is smooth compared to Mandisa's raw power, and 2) Katharine is attractive. (Okay, I think she's SMOKIN hot, but you get the picture!)
It's a simple fact of life that the world is a prettier place when you are pretty yourself. Do I hate that it has to be that way? Sure, as a person whose face you wouldn't pull out of a crowd, it even sucks sometimes to see how much better my girlfriend is treated over me. It's a reality, and one I think we'd be naive to ignore.
The funny thing is- men will buy albums song by the human equivalent of a troll like Ozzie Osbourne, but we stopped listening to C&C music factory once it was determined Martha Washington (or similar name) was the real voice, not the skinny hot woman ion the video. I don't care that Jamiroquai's lead singer is "Nicole Ritchie" type skrawny, to me he's got character and a funky jazzy voice.
But with women the world is badly segregated from pretty to not pretty. Unattractive women need to perform better and harder than attractive women in many things in life (there are a few instances where it sucks to be a pretty girl, but emphasis on FEW). This is clearly the case why we deal with "What's a ballsy?" every week instead of "I'm every woman" right now. Sucks, but it's true.
Ugly guys who can sing will still lose out to pretty guys who can sing, but not with the polarity of Kellie/Mandisa. This is because society in general is more tolerant of ugly guys so long as they can make up for it in personality, talent, or power. The same cannot be said of ugly women.
And as far as I understand- it's not just the men who perpetuate this double-standard. It's their fellow women that scrutinize and exaggerate imperfection amongst one another. It's little girls learning to identify with the pretty blonde-haired Barbie of a Kellie Pickler, and slack-jawed men ever drooling by her fit body and vacant stare.
Translate this to popular media and the examples are too many to name. No matter how far we feel we've progressed as sentient beings, there's still no substitute for a hot chick.

You said it, SoS. I've always preferred Mandisa to Katharine in terms of voice & personality (although Kat is absolutely hot) but well, it's too bad, unconventional women are treated differently. I say "unconventional" because while Mandisa is definitely bigger than the average woman, she isn't ugly either.
Still, being big & beautiful in addition to having a fantastic vocal range doesn't seem to be enough to keep one in a competition like this. :(

See...I told you American Idol was turning into a Beauty Contest!
Elliot was in the bottom 3...and is the least attractive of the males.
Mandisa and Paris were in the bottom three...and just happen to be the least attractive of the females.
Mandisa got voted off...because she was the least attractive one there.

(graciespeaks)...Sure...Mandisa wasn't great last night...but she has been more consistantly good than any of the other contestants.
Taylor started out great...but has been a dud the last 2-3 shows.
Kellie and ACE have also had a few BAD performances.

Thats true but I do not think looks played a role. Mandisa, even heavy, is prettier than Taylor is cute!!!

There will always be a few theories floating around about it. I say that it's turned into something of a beauty pageant because I have seen or heard people attacking other people for being fat, regardless of talent or personality.
It could also be programming on the part of the producers. That's very possible. Come on, you don't take reality t.v. that seriously, do you?
And yes, it probably had something to do with her under par performance but remember, she was a lot more consistent than many of the contestants. I have more faith in the general public to judge according to overall talent, not isolated performances.
So yes, it was either the votes or the programming.
