View Full Version : Why does Kellie Pickler Get a Mini-Interview Each Week?

It seems like each week Ryan Seacrest grants a mini-interview to Kellie Pickler, while the rest of the contestants are given an intro and that is it. Last night Ryan asked Kellie to "explain to America" the controversy of her some of her previous statements. She then went through several statements and explained each one thereby assuring us that she is not putting on an act. Boy do I feel better, now I know she is really that stupid, and not just being a phony. What about the other contestants???? I am sure Katharine Mcphee would love to be able to assure us that she isn't conceited that she's shy, OR Ace would like time to discuss his take on the discussion of "his look" in the camera, OR any other contestant--What about Paris discussing the helium voice joke?.

Is it too much to ask that all of the contestants are treated fairly by the producers of the show?

Because Kellie is the "Salt of the Earth". That's just what America is looking for, just common-ordinary folk. It's like a Cinderella story. Poor little country girl, who's parents abandoned her, makes it big. I love her. Nobody wants to hear about what hair products Ace uses or his favorite blow-dryer, or how often Chris shaves his head, or Mandisa's favorite kind of dessert, or Elliot's underbite and why he goes for that beard with no mustache look. People love that dumb-blonde girl who makes the guys think they really have a shot with her. Nobody is interested in Katherine, who is beautiful, but stuck-up, or Paris who looks like a cartoon character. It's the same reason Fantasia won. People felt sorry for her, just like they feel sorry for Kellie.

Rushdog the ultimate question is..."Is it fair?" And if I take your response literally, shouldn't we just change the title from Americal Idol to American Pity? Come on, many of these contestants haven't had it easy--loss of parent, etc. What I guess I am asking for is for the producers of American Idol to give everyone an equal chance and let's vote on the person we all think has the best combination of talent and stage precense. In otherwords, a true American Idol that will sell the records that Kelly Clarkston has.

You're right. It's not fair and it should be. The show in general is not fair. Even during the auditions. There are alot of people that should've moved on but didn't because of whatever mood the judges were in. They always try to push their favorites on us. Then they get shocked when they get voted off like Constantine was last year.

Yeah, I totally see where both of you are coming from.

Kellie talks too damned much, that's why she has to clear up whatever controversy there may be surrounding her statements, which leads to more unnecessary babbling. And please. If it were fair, she would have been out a long time ago.

I may be biased but Simon seems to be the only one who bothers giving constructive criticism. And Paula & Randy seem to revel in disagreeing with him & letting idiots like crazy dave through. Simon seemed rightly horrified, if I remember correctly.

Even the judges seem to be blind to the vocal mishaps in the competition. What more the general public?

Yes, she does talk too much, but they (Ryan) give her the opportunity. I agree that Simon is the most honest, but I don't always agree with him. If I were a contestant I think I would resent the special attention Pickler gets. But maybe if she gets enough rope...

I am not a fan of Kellie's but I dont think Ryan is just doing that for her.
Chris had an opportunity to "set the record straight" and also, Ryan clearly said to the audience standing next to Ace "Ladies, he's officially single".
Which I think was to clear up "his sexual orientation". (But He NEVER had to clear that up to me!!!!!!!!!!!!)
I think that each contestant has or will be given the opportunity to clear up something, IF they so wish.
I truely believe it is a fair competition. (Unless Ace is voted off!!)

P.S. :p No need to complain about that last remark about Ace it was a joke.(Hmmmm I think)

I like Kellie... but I must agree that they treat her different from the others... but it will not be enough to make her the next Idol. She has a big problem: Carrie Underwood!
Or people will decide to vote again in the "same" American Idol? Again an young blondy naive country girl will win the competition, to play the same kind of music???? It will be very strange.

I think Ryan sometimes seems annoyed with her, especially when she was like, "What's a ballsy...?" He reminded her that there's a time limit & you could see he was pretty bored with her.

I can't blame the poor guy.

And about Simon...yeah, I don't always agree with him but at least he is constructive. And I think the audience's constant booing at him is just downright rude & crass. When will these people learn basic etiquette?

There's one reason and one reason only why some get to talk more than others....it's called RATINGS!!!! Nobody wants to hear Katherine's story because she really doesn't have one...even though she is one of the most talented and I think much prettier than Kellie.

idolsmidol
04-06-2006, 04:40 AM
You are right about that! That is really all the network cares about--Ratings=$$$$$ You're also right that Katharine and the others haven't put all of their family dirty laundry on TV, but for instance Elliott is an enigma. I would like to know more about him, how did this young white guy get his wonderful ear for R&B, or what influences caused Chris to sing country with so much emotion...how did he, a true rocker, get into the C&W music so well? What is it like for Paris who grew up in a true musical family to be performing in front of them? How long has Taylor been performing and how did the Soul Patrol begin? You get my drift...let us hear from the others more and Kellie less. Since it looks like we're stuck with Kellie for awhile--give other contestants the spotlight and see where they go with it.

Have you forgotten about when Katharine had the opportunity on March 21,2006 to discuss that Simon was talking about her on another show and she even did a "PLUG" for herself by referring to "McFEEVER"
SO I GUESS SHE IS GETTING SOME AIRTIME!!

I dont care for Kellie and dont vote for her BUT Others also get this "extra airtime " they space it out over the weeks. Chris got his time to clear up some facts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have every episode on TIVO and can give you dates where someone got a little extra time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just don't like that they're playing INTO her lies. . not really clearing them up. . she worked at a restraunt that served Calamari and Salmon and etc. . and she's playing the "dumb card" why?

I have no idea!

well I'm new here. . but i had to chime in! :2gunsfiri

They just play into this dumb role so much like Ryan asking her all the dumb ass questions and him saying so your really like this. Honestly, I hate to say this, but I think Kellie will not get voted off anytime soon, sites like Vote for the Worst and all these people who see something in Kellie that we don't will continue to support her. All the people who have been voted out the last weeks especially Mandisa have been better than her, but I guess people really like this annoying dumb act she's got going on.

Yeah, for some reason, people just love her playing (or being) dumb. They find it "cute".

Aside from looks (honestly, I don't see what's so hot about her), she can't sing & talks too much. Yadda yadda yadda. You can tell Ryan gets kind of annoyed & I think he's indulging himself a little every week when he talks to kellie - he makes her look even dumber. But well, it seems that dumb is the way to go to win votes, isn't it?

There should be a contest called Dumb & Dumber. Kellie would be the perfect candidate. In fact, she'd almost definitely win.

Your input about people feeling sorry for Kellie because her dad's in jail is like a Cinderella story and make people sorry for her is right on point. Hey,It happens in other competitions too like ice skating.I remember when a little poor Russian orphan girl was competing and although she fell flat her butt, yet the American girl who was flawless got the silver medal. Even in ordinary life like getting accepted to college. All a person has to do is write an essay about how he/she had to swim from one island to another with pirates chasing and made it safely to the other shore. Fantasia too had a sob story about dropping out of school and struggling with a kid. Whose fault was that? She should've stuck to the books. In that competition there were others who got the boot but were better singers.
So I can see the same scenario being played out on AI with poor Kellie. I can't stand it!

Fantasia had a sob story but she didn't harp on it the way kellie did. Besides, Fantasia can really sing. And unlike kellie, many people judged her when they heard her sob story. She wasn't pitied. I had schoolmates who criticized Fantasia for being a single mum, which to me, is retarded. Kellie is the one people feel sorry for, mainly becuause it isn't really her fault daddy's in jail.

I'm not saying that one shouldn't be sympathetic but when it comes to a competition like this (or any other competition, for that matter), it's talent that matters. And using sob stories to gain sympathy & votes is just pathetic. The sad part is, many people don't see that. They root for the one who has a sob story, regardless of talent.

Main difference between Fantasia & kellie - Fantasia didn't have to use her sob story to win the competition. Kellie does.

In all fairness, Fantasia is alot more talented than Kellie, and if Kellie was competing against the same people that Fantasia was, she would've been voted off already. This year's talent pool is alot weaker than what Fantasia was going against, so that's another thing Kellie has going for her.

right. . just like keeping Mikalah around longer than she desreved last night. .the whole "Nanny" New York attitude was annoying. and people talked about it!

if we don't talk about her. .maybe she'll go away?

I STILL think. .and always will ..that our votes might count. . but the producers really truly decide who goes and who stays!

oh no. . i think our expectations are different. . Fantasia's year. .there was a handful of great talent. . Like Mandissa. .they got voted off early. .

Diana couldn't compete these days. . John Peter Lewis wouldn't be in this top 12. .and etc. .

they were much more seperated between the good and awful that year. . at least this year. . they're a BIT more closely matched. . .

but Mandissa didn't deserve to go. .IMO but *SIGHS* she did!

Kellie is jumping (quite simply) on the "let's be like Jessica Simpson" bandwagon. .

act like a simpleton. . dress / be like a high maintenance. . well. . HO

I think several contestants have had mini-interviews. Chris, Katharine, Kellie, Ace. I think that the media brings up issues that AI gives the contestant a chance to defend themself about. I dont see it as giving somone more air time. What's surprising to me is that when someones favorite gets time....nothing is said, when someone we dislike gets time....its not fair. Its ok to allow an interview as long as everyone is given the same opportunity, and I think they do.

Matter of opinion. Her voice is no worse than a zillion female country singers out there selling records right now. In fact, there's almost no question that regardless of how well she does on AI a lucrative singing career is in her future.

See thats what makes me so mad about Kellie. She is from the south, so northerners think thats how we are. She is an actress, one that should be on "Day's of our Lives" We in the south do not act like Kellie. She is depending on the age old theory...men love the dumb blonde, and she's using it to get votes. People say " look at that country girl...isn't that cute?" Well, its not cute, and if she was really that stupid, she wouldnt continue to keep the ball rolling by reminding us how stupid she is. She is the one who reminds America of the stupid thing she said the week before. If she was truely stupid, she would keep her mouth shut and smile. You dont ask Ryan, on the air ,in front of millions of people...Whats a ballsy" or "What's a minx" You look it up in a dictionary, or ask a friend off the air. Been to her town? I have, they dont act like that.
