My daughter is 14 and yelled right away. I can in the room and she pressed rewind on our DVR and to my surprise, "There IT was." Shortly after Elliot was done singing and was talking about Coca-Cola and Ford, Ryan Secrest stated, and I quote "More emotion, more results and MELINDA goes home." You will notice that she is stunned when the camera pans to her and Simon appears irritated when they return. Why do you think she wasn't crying when he finally read the results? She already knew for the past fifteen minutes.

He was but he knew what the results would be and it was a slip of the tongue..My son had the same reaction he said mom Melinda is going home...I reassured him it was just for a few days......but when it came to Blake and Jordin he didn't say and next Jordin is going home...

Kinda like a Freudian slip?

I think that's exactly what he was talking about. It just so happens that Melinda's reunion was the last of the three. Besides, I believe the result was a commercial or two later AFTER they did her homecoming video. In other words, they didn't give the decision immediately after that comment.

I noticed that too and thought to myself, "did he mean to say that?"

I do not think he was talking about Melinda leaving the show.

I agree. I don't think it was a Freudian slip - although I had to explain it to my husband at the time, because like others, he took it to mean that she was going home that night.
Ryan is too professional to make such a major slip. If he had, he would have explained it to the audience that night. Let's face it, it was every's homecoming that week, so if he'd used the same wording and Melinda didn't go home that night, no one would have thought a thing about it.
In hindsight, it was just poor wording.

I totally noticed that when I rewatched, and I saw Melinda's face fall. It isn't what he meant, but it was totally taken that way. He was refering to her return to her home town, but a different choice of words would have been more fitting.
