Hi, Nixxey! No wonder you never of Cliff - you are not so far under my age - but am used to hear from my mom's - he's British - sang since he was 18 until TODAY! His concerts always full house, he's looked far soooo young for his age (65!) to compare with Tom Jones, Elton John, and other artists of the
50's. I don't know so many songs of his from his 50's and 60's, but his recent album like Something's Going On, Real As I Wanna Be are exquisite! His DVD's like The Event, Castle In The Air and Countdown Concert are amazing! He's a nice artist, or singer, you'll never heard of any gossip out of him - that's why he's not in any media (but British ones though maybe rarely, of course)! No drugs, no bad behaviour, but out of this world voice! Well, that's all that matters to me! And songs are beautiful! Suggested album: SGO, The Album.
Oh! He's a huge fan of Elvis! And he's still looking georgeous, well, to older ladies perhaps, but myself found him as a rare fabulous gentleman, indeed! His website: www.cliffrichard.org but try the other site dedicated to him: www.cliffchartsite.co.uk or Ian Samwell's site. Happy listening!

I think I read once that Cliff Richard is the only pop singer ever to have a #1 record in Britian in each of five decades (50's 60's 70's 80's and 90's).

He is far more popular in the U.K. than here, in fact he was the first rock singer ever to be knighted.

He a never had a #1 record in the U.S. and the last time he appeared in the American Top 100 was more than 20 years ago so it is not surprising that many of you have never heard of him.

Imho, you're not missing much.

Wasn't Cliff Richard like the British version of Pat Boone?

Silhouette

No, Rushdog, Cliff is British version of Elvis, but there he WAS in the 50's and 60's - later ans especially after the 90's he has his own unique and exquisite style in singing his (99%) beautiful songs.

Unfortunayely for non.fans, they used to hear of his earlier songs - i.e, Bachelor Boy, Summer Holiday, which are easy listening, yes, not too bad, but if you really listen to his recent album like Real As I Wanna Be, Something's Goin' On and The Album, wow! You've missed a LOT!

...isn't it great that he means so much to us all.
IMO there is no question of being less of a fan if you don't have all the merchandise, or 'just enjoy concerts' ('just?? )
The simple enjoyment most of you have expressed on here, regarding being a fan, says it all in answer to Janets' question.
It doesn't have to to have inspired us to great heights - real or imagined - just the pleasure Cliff has given us over the years makes it great to be a fan.
Also of course shows what incredibly good taste we have

Have a nice day, all!

Oh! Forgot something! Nixxey, Taylor shall sing Cliff's Simplicity or What Car - both from his album SGO.

RushDog, nice and rare photo of Elvis you have! Never seen it! BTW, if you watch Cliff's DVD - Countdown Concert, The World Tour, and some more, you'll see how he idolized Elvis so much! Pat Boone is my grandma's fave! LOL!:jump1:

It's virtually impossible to find anything of Cliff Richard in any of the record stores here in the States. I'd have to go on Ebay to find anything of his. Other than Tower, the record stores here aren't very good. Especially compared to the ones in England. I was stationed there back in the late '80's and I was blown away by the record stores in London. They had everything! I used to spend a fortune on CD's back then. Of course that was long before you could download anything.

I'd have to disagree with Silouette. He's not the British version of Elvis. I never heard him sing any Gospel songs, and I don't think he made any movies.

Hi All! Just get back from Glendale - no time to check in the net! LOL! BTW, does anyone hear of Il Divo?? They've got beautiful voice! All four of them - but I heard only their Christmas album - not knowing anything else - where they from, etc.

Aztecgoods, it's Cliff RICHARD (without 's') - but who cares, I just so amazed
with his voice and songs - except Queen, I rarely found any other singers with good voice and so many good songs at once - and with Cliff, it's not merely pop!

My idol fave is Chris - I wish he'll sing Peace In Our Time from Cliff. Rushdog, his gospel album is Yesterday Today Forever - all songs are good!

Have a nice day! (I like Bon Jovi too!)

I am slightly surprised the Cliff Richard's name is even mentioned in these parts. Sir Cliff has a huge following in many Commonwealth countries.
In his own homeland, he's idolised to a great degree. Most of his concert tickets are sold out months before they are held.
One of Cliff's greatest regrets is never to have scored a No. 1 hit in America. The closest he came to was Devil Woman (1976) that was No. 2 in America, 30 years ago.
Cliff is a staunch Christian and some people in the music industry resent that because he sings a large number of Christian songs, does a lot of charity and is still a bachelor at 65.
Frankly, being such a famous Brit and also a singer of international repute in half of the world, I am amazed nobody in America has actually invited him over to the US to perform in a concert.
At the dawning of the new Millennium, Cliff sang the Lord's Prayer to the tune of Auld Lang Syne but according to reports, few radio stations in Britain wanted to air it because they were aghast that this "old man" was still around and still producing records.
What happened later was rather comical because Cliff's fans picketed outside Bush House (BBC Hq) or something like that. Finally, someone relented and Cliff's Lord's Prayer became a collosal hit.
For a while back then, it looked as if it was pre-destined. There's no stopping the Lord when he wants something done! Now apparently, Cliff closes all his concert with the song that opened the doors to the new Millennium. You could say that it was and still is a sign of the times.
Basically, Cliff Richard leads a very clean life. No skeletons in his closet. No extra-marital affairs. Prays regularly. Sings praises of the Almighty and tries to be kind to everybody.
Some people accuse him of being out of touch with reality but Cliff ignores all that and continues to be his goodself, much to the chagrin of his detractors.
Yes, he's 65 but looks 45. That's what clean living does to a person! :)

He's real old too ;) (about 64 I think) tad too old to be considered for Idol I think. His songs are way too poppy for my taste, but hey, the Queen likes him so much she gave him a knighthood :D

Thanks for your info too, Watcher! My mom would like that. Watcher, do you know there will be a 'Now And Then' concerts in November in UK, unfortunately am not in the East Coast or I will fly to UK to watch!

Hi RushDog, you should listen to his Millenium Prayer - his controversy song! Watcher is right, the Lord is pleased! It's not in the gospel album though.

Silhouette, you can find all the information you want about Cliff Richard at this website:

http://www.cliffrichard.org/

I have been to two of Cliff's concerts in Malaysia. That guy is unbelievably popular, and he's a great entertainer, too.
