That guy Aaron Walpole is very good! American Idol should have more of
contestants like the 2 in the videos, singing classics from yesterday, and not screaming their way thru a song which generally is short on melody. The Blacks love to sing songs like that...too much screaming. It is unfortunate that they don't go for soft, slow ballads that made their brothers international superstars in the past, eg, Nat King Cole, Platters,
Michael Jackson, Lionel Ritchie. And the Whites are aping them to a great extent. I am not from America. But I grew up on American music from the golden age of pop...the 50's, 60's and 70's. And I listen mainly to songs from this era cos the songs are really melodious and soothing, eg, "When A Man Loves A Woman", "Sound Of Silence", "Pretty Woman". Too bad they don't compose songs like that anymore.

You must be old.
Actually, screaming is a very important part of Rock music. I love to hear Robert Plant's screaming in alot of the Led Zeppelin songs, most notably, "The Immigrant Song", as well as Roger Daltrey screaming, "Yeah!!!!!!!!!!" at the end of "Won't Get Fooled Again".
Brian Young of AC/DC is another one of my favorite screamers. Chris Cornell also. Screaming in music, is an art. Not everyone can do it. Some try, and fail miserably.
Mister J got me thinkin' about Soundgarden earlier. Here's one of my favorite songs of theirs. Chris Cornell screams wonderfully in this one.

Don't get me wrong, folks. I have nothing against screaming in songs as
long as it is necessary. I also have nothing against screaming in rock songs, Rush, as that's what it is. I complimented the 2 guys in the CI videos above even though they were screaming away. This is because the 2 songs should be sung that way. Elvis was also screaming away with Celine on AI, and again that was OK because it was necessary. You need the lungs of Pravarotti to sing the pop song "Power Of Love". It is a real classic. You can't sing it softly. My point is, it seems most young Black singers today love to scream thru ANY song, like as if it is a trend. Screaming for screaming sake, which is bad. If you ask them to sing Elvis' "Love Me Tender" (You can't find a more sentimental song), they will screamingly butcher it until it becomes "Love Me Louder". I lived in Los Angeles for a while and found that the Blacks, and to a lesser degree the Whites, even sing traditional church songs this way. I think it is too much. The AI winner Fantasia is a good example of such singers. Carrie Underwood and K. Clarkson are almost like that. Taylor Hicks, Jordin and Blake are sober. Melinda is somewhat like Tina Turner, so it is OK. These young Blacks today have downgraded the standard of Black songs. The Black singers of yesteryear were uncomparable. The whole world loved them. Many of my favorite singers are Blacks from the past. Unfortunately, today many Whites are following these drunken Black singers. It is not a matter of we in Singapore having different ideas, Beckford. It is simply a question of good taste. For your info, I listen only to American and British songs...And Elvis is my no.1 favorite singer.

Sorry, you asked for it. You teeny people (I assume) simply aint got no taste. You have the same taste as the screamer singers, cos you have been conditioned by their songs to think that screaming-with-little-melody songs are cool. You have little exposure to the classics of yesteryear. Come out of your well and listen to these great old songs and do your comparison and then make your informed judgement. Many of today's songs aren't soothing sounds, they are just irritating, loud noise, which we heard a lot on AI!
For your info, I lived in Los Angeles for a few years, so my feelings are
also the feelings of those Americans with GOOD TASTE. Last but not least, the saying "The golden age of pop music is the 50's and 60's" was coined
by the Americans themselves! I added the 70's as well. This is my last
posting on this, cos I can't chat with people whose taste is way below my
standard.

Well, like I said, screaming in music, is an art. I don't like all screaming. I hated alot Chris Daughtery's performances last year on Idol, because he tried scream his way through alot of songs. IMO, his better songs are the ones where he doesn't scream.
I have very ecclectic tastes as far as music goes. I could listen to Heavy Metal one minute, then country, then punk, then maybe some Sinatra, or something else. You just never know with me. I don't like a steady diet of any kind of music, and that includes anything screaming.

I like your response, Rush! It's more balanced than that from the other people who made fun of my comments. Obviously, these people are teenagers who are not exposed much to the classics of yesteryear; they have been conditioned by a lot of the trash churned out today. So I can't blame them. I admire your varied taste. Actually, I am not against Chris Daughtery's loud singing cos that is what it is supposed to be ... rock. In fact I liked his performance on AI this week. What I don't like is unnecessary screaming just because it is trendy to do so, in the process butchering many classic ballads beyond recognition. I hate it when they spoil my favourites.

I told my son last night wow Kelly is screaming her way through the songs she is singing....I wonder what the judges would say about that due to the fact that is one of their biggest complaints...I enjoyed Kelly's performance it just seems to me the judges will look for anything to grip about nowadays.....Pitchy, screaming what ever they can find....Myself i never really thought KiKi was screaming..this is just my opinion..

Interesting that you say that Kelly was screaming. I totally agree. If you can remember back to World Idol all those years ago, which was clearly a FOX endeavour to showcase Kelly, the Canadian judge told her that she was bordering on yelling, and Simon (the American??? judge) took great offense to it. To this day, there is on on-going battle between the two judges.
Kelly really did yell last night. The Beatles never yelled, they sung - yes, sometimes louder than others, but never yelled. Kelly is only a success because she was the "first" American Idol, whereas, Carrie Underwood needed Idol to give her her break, but she is a star in her own right.
Now let's move on to Canadian Idol.

Unfortunately, we have to live through a few weeks of the silly auditions, before we get to the real stuff.
Check out www.CTV.ca to see if there's any info on how to watch it if your not local (ie. on You Tube)

See thats the problem with your posts, you are believing somehow that taste is factual...when in reality it is totally subjective!
There are no 2 human beings that will ever agree on every song. Its subjective. Its what the individual likes.
There shouldnt be a 'well below your standard' for someones taste in music. Its sad you feel that way.
And believe me you are mostly speaking to adults here, not 'teenies' so we realize that the music in the 50s and 60s were the coined the golden age in music, but not until later....the older folks are almost never going to be into the younger generations music.
