Think you're as good as (or better than) Simon Cowell at judging how the contestants will fair each week? Prove it by playing IdolMe.com Fantasy Play! We will begin by noon EST on 4/2/06. Here are the basic rules for play. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE SUBMITTING ENTRIES.
You must be a registered user on IdolMe.com to play. You must have a username so we can track your points.
The Basics:
Each week, you will select the contestants you believe will be safe from the next elimination and you will select the contestants you believe will be in the bottom 3. You will also select what you believe will be the order of the bottom 3. You will be awarded points based on your ability to correctly predict the results. You will also be awarded points based on how early you make your predictions. After the finale, the player with the highest number of points will be crowned the IdolMe.com Fantasy Play champ. This is only for bragging rights, folks.
How to Play:
1) Each Thursday morning, beginning at noon EST, go to the IdolMe.com Fantasy Play forum and look for the new thread posted by AbsentElement titled "Top X Weekly Fantasy Picks" (X being the number of contestants remaining after the most recent elimination episode). You may submit your picks any time before the cut-off time (see below). You may also edit your picks at any time before the cut-off time. You will only be given early prediction credit (see point structure) for the time elapsed between your most recent submission and the cut-off time. To edit your picks, please find your posting and select Edit. Please do not submit a new posting with different picks.
PLEASE DO NOT POST ANY OTHER COMMENTS/REPLIES/QUOTES TO THE WEEKLY PICKS THREAD. THIS WILL HELP US QUICKLY READ YOUR POSTS AND NOTE YOUR PICKS. OTHER COMMENTS OR POSTS RELATED TO FANTASY PLAY SHOULD BE POSTED ON SEPARATE THREADS IN THIS FORUM. ON THE WEEKLY PICKS THREAD, ONLY LIST YOUR PICKS. YOU ARE ALWAYS FREE TO DISCUSS THEM ON OTHER THREADS.
PLEASE ONLY SUBMIT YOUR PICKS TO THE WEEKLY PICKS THREAD STARTED BY ABSENTELEMENT. IF YOU SUBMIT THEM TO ANOTHER THREAD, THEY WILL NOT BE COUNTED!
2) I will get the weekly point awards and overall standings up as soon as possible each week (I will try to have them up by 9pm EST each Saturday). Please do give me a little slack. I'm only one guy, and will have to do this manually for the most part.
3) For each week beginning with the Top 9 down through the Final 4, you will select the contestants you believe will NOT be eliminated and list them out under the heading "Safe". You will then select the bottom 3 and clearly note which one has the 3rd least votes, the 2nd least votes, and which one will be eliminated. Your post should look something like this (change names around to suit your predictions):
Safe: Chris, Mandisa, Elliot, Katharine, Bucky, Paris
3rd least votes: Ace
2nd least votes: Kellie
Least votes / Elimination:Taylor
As we get down to the Top 3 finalists, the "Safe" portion of the game will cease and the "Pick Bottom 3" portion of the game will cease. You will simply select the "Most Votes", "Second Most Votes", and "Eliminated." So if the final 3 were Chris, Taylor, and Katharine, your post might look like this:
Most votes: Chris
2nd most votes: Katharine
Eliminated: Taylor
At this stage, you may simply indicate what overall position (1-3, with 3 being "eliminated") they will finish for that week:

As we get down to the finale, you will simply select who you believe will win.

To edit your picks, please find your posting and select Edit. Please do not submit a new posting with different picks. IF YOU SUBMIT OR EDIT YOUR PICS AFTER THE CUT-OFF TIME, YOU WILL NOT BE GIVEN CREDIT FOR THOSE PICKS.
Point Structure:
"Safe" Picks: Beginning with Top 9 week (the 9 remaining finalists after the March 29 elimination aired), your "Safe" picks will be worth 10 points each. You earn 10 points for each contestant listed in your "Safe" category that avoids the bottom three. The maximum number of points you can receive in this category is as follows:
Top 9 week: 60
Top 8 week: 50
Top 7 week: 40
Top 6 week: 30
Top 5 week: 20
Final Four: 10
Final Three: 0
Finale: 0
Throughout the season, you can earn a maximum of 210 "Safe" points. After the 4th place contestant is eliminated, there are only 3 players remaining. Point awards in this category will cease.
"Bottom 3" Picks: Beginning with Top 9 week, you will select 3 contestants you believe will be in the bottom 3. You earn 10 points for each contestant listed in your "Bottom 3" category that actually lands in the bottom 3. The maximum number of points you can earn in this category is 30 per week through the Final 4. After the 4th place contestant is eliminated, there are only 3 players remaining. Point awards in this category will cease.
"Bottom 3 Order": Beginning with Top 9 week through FINAL 3 week, you will select what you believe will be the ORDER of the votes among the Bottom 3. Of course when we get to Final 3 week, call it "top 3" if you like. Either way, you will select the order. Each week, through Final 3 week, points will be awarded as follows:
Correctly select the person with the 3rd least votes (top vote-getter of the bottom 3): 10 points
Correctly select the person with the 2nd least votes (next most votes of the bottom 3): 20 points
Correctly select the person with the least votes (eliminated): 30 points
You can earn 10, 20, or 30 points if you guess at least 1 contestant's vote position correctly. If you guess the exact order, you earn 60 points.
IT'S ASSUMED THAT THE 1ST PERSON SEACREST DEEMS SAFE OUT OF THE BOTTOM 3 WON THE MOST VOTES OUT OF THE BOTTOM 3 CONTESTANTS. IF SEACREST ANNOUNCES THE ELIMINATED CONTESTANT BEFORE ANY OF THE BOTTOM 3 ARE DEEMED SAFE, ALL PLAYERS WHO CORRECTLY GUESSED THE ELIMINATED CONTESTANT WILL BE AWARDED 60 POINTS FOR THAT WEEK AND ALL PLAYERS WHO DID NOT CORRECTLY GUESS THE ELIMINATED CONTESTANT WILL BE AWARDED 20 POINTS (because 20 points is the absolute maximum you may receive under any circumstance in which you do not correctly guess the eliminated contestant).
"Pick the Winner": After the 3rd place contestant is eliminated, the "Bottom 3 Order" point awards will cease. At this point, you simply select who you believe will be the winner. If you guess correctly, you earn 110 points. If you are wrong, you earn 0 points. You can still earn early prediction points for finale week.
"Early Prediction" Points: For every full hour that elapses between the time of your final pick submission and the cut-off time, you will receive 1 point, up to a maximum of 60 points. So if you are confident in your picks, it would behoove you to submit your picks as early as (or earlier than) 8:00 pm on Sunday night. This will automatically earn you 60 points each week, unless you edit your picks closer to the cut-off time. If your picks flounder, or if a contestant unexpectedly blows you away at the performances, you will still have some time to go back and edit your picks (see cut-off times), but you will lose a bunch of "early prediction" points.

1) Most number of correct elimination guesses, including guessing the winner/runner-up correctly.
2) Most actual TOTAL (for all weeks) hours (including those beyond 60 hours) of elapsed time between the most recent submissions and cut-off time.
