I thought that Lisa did her song well, possibly Katherine, although, I do not like her! Chris was just terrible and the song he picked. He had better sing a song period. Simon was right on that one. Taylor was good, Elliot more agressive in his song pick, Mandisa, yells and did not like her pick at all. Pickler, average song, Paris, do not like her song pick. I did not think this was a good night at all, nothing exceptional!!!

Arrgh..I missed the whole thing because flight out of Chicago was delayed...
I guess I'll just have to see who gets eliminated tomorrow when I get home. I'm thinking Bucky didn't have some breakout performance, and so he'll be leaving tomorrow night.

I have liked Paris from the first; thought she was fresh and perky. But I wish she would quit singing adult songs and imitating Britney, etc. Last night's performance was awful. Cannot believe her mother and grandmother approved of that...[COLOR=RoyalBlue]

i think that kellie and lisa should have been in the bad category. i really think they butchered their songs. you are right anonymous x, no one was exceptional.
I agree that Kellie and Lisa sounded bad. I thought that a lot of
the contestants sounded off key, like they couldn't hear the band
or something. To me it was the worst night of all. Hope they improve
next week. Simon hits it on the head with his comments and I'm glad
that he is as honest as he is. After all he is a judge and they need to
listen to him.

I liked these performances the most.
1. Taylor
2. Paris
I love Elliott but the jumping bean thing just didn't work for me.

Dude, you didn't miss anything, believe me. The usual average people were, again, average. The usual greats were, well, average. Taylor did well, but he did change it up a bit. He just stood behind the mic and sang. Nice change for me. I think you would have been surprised at how well Bucky did. For me, it was his personal best so far. I've been saying in other threads all day, I bet everyone will be surprised tonight. I don't think Bucky will even be in the bottom three. I'm guessing Ace, Lisa, and Kellie (although IdolMe pointed out that Kellie might now be getting some of Kevin's votes).

Ace was trembling so bad he almost shook my TV off the wall! lol. I'd have to disagree with you on him. Not to knock him... I think, if he'd just calm down, he could do very well. He has just had a hard time finding a song to help him get over his nerves. He should pick something really uptempo, and move around the stage. Get the adrenaline going, you know?

I thought -- as did the live audience -- that Taylor rocked. But the judges cited "song choice" as faulty. Are you ready to hear who got the ax last night?

Hi Patty,
I already heard it was Lisa. I have a mp3 of Taylors performance, I thought he was back to his very best, I can't believe it got slated by the judges! doh!
Are you familar with Paul Carrack? he started off in a band called Ace and wrote the wonderful 'How Long' then he joined Squeeze, and then Mike and The Mechanics, before going solo. I think some of his songs would suit Taylor to a T :)

Cinnamocha...
I cannot believe you watched the same show I did! And you don't even mention Taylor. Did you forget about him? Mandisa did an excellent job; Paris tried too hard to be "hot"; Taylor was excellent, although I prefer to see him more animated. I whole heartedly agreed with the bottom 3: Lisa, Ace and Katharine. I think Katharine has a highly elevated opinion of herself -- (she said the bottom 3 was a "new place" for her). And I agree with the final cut, Lisa. Next I could do without Ace and/or Bucky.

Laraine,
I wasn't familiar -- being new to the forum -- with Cinnamocha.
And I'm sorry but I haven't heard of the band "Ace" you mentioned. I'm afraid I'm not up on current bands and songs. I'm glad they will be doing Country next week, but I bet it will be what they currently CALL Country, which isn't Country at all but Redneck. I would love to see Mandisa or Kelly do more Patsy Cline...

The song How Long by Ace was released in 1974, it starts off 'how long, has this been going on... well your friends and their fancy persuasions, don't admit that its part of scheme... but i can't help but have my suspiscions cos i ain't quite as dumb as i seem.' Its a great song thats been covered by many artists over the years.
I just mentioned PC cos he's a great white soul singer, and I think his songs would suit Taylor. With regard to C&W week, I think a song like 'I Can Love you Like That' by John Michael Montgomery would suit Taylor, I can't see him rocking out with a full on yee har performance like Garth Brooks can you? ;)

Anonymous X I am borrowing your format and adding a fair column.
Exceptional:
No one.
Good:
Katherine
Paris
Elliott
Average:
Taylor
Mandisa
Chris Dautry
Ace
Fair:
Bucky
Kellie
Lisa Tucker
Bad:
No one.
RANDOM OBSERVATIONS:
KATHERINE---I thought that she was good. Although many think she is conceited, I actually think that she is a little shy. Her live performances (stage precense) is getting more polished each week.
PARIS---I thought her latest performance was good. She has the voice and is fearless on stage. It must be genetics, because she is a real possible final four.
ELLIOTT---I thought he pulled off a good performance on a truly boring night of performances. He has been under my radar, but I am going to start watching him closer.
CHRIS---I thought this last performance was his worst. He is so mcuh better than last week. He is a definite final four.
LAST POSSIBLE FINAL FOUR SLOT: Could be Taylor, Kelly or Mandisa.

I kinda like country anyways as a genre, Garth is ok, but my faves are Brad Paisley, Johnny Cash, Alan Jackson, and Raul Malo (not sure if he's strictly country, but I adore him anyways.. :) )

The Good: Paris; Chris; Mandisa; Katharine; Elliot
Paris - I don't think she recieves the credit she deserves. On Tuesday she had a good performance, she sang a Beyonce song, but is not even as close as to being as good as Beyonce, but I think she is a star.
Chris - I don't get Simon's comments on Chris, I mean he did go over the top on the song, but he does not always yell the song. If anything he sounds really good when he starts off a song, then he really brings it out at the end. He is my favorite out of everyone and I really get into the song when he sings. I really hope he wins.
Mandisa - I have to admit, people were right about Mandisa just yelling half the time. All she did on Tueday was yell. I hate saying this, but she doesn't really have that good of a singing voice. She can sing a little bit, but then it just becomes a yelling match. Even Paris sounds better than her, but I still think she is very talented and she gives you a show unlike Katharine. She has a powerful voice and I know she will go fair.
Katharine - I just saw her audition video and it was really good, but it's like she's not as confident on stage as everyone else. She has a good voice, but she's not commanding the stage as I would hope she would. If she really took over the stage, she would be one of my favorites, but she doesn't and I don't see a star in her.
Elliot - Him and Chris are the best men they have. He can really sing and I'm glad he's still around. I hope Elliot or Chris win because they need a guy to win this season. I was kind of worried a little bit that Elliot was getting overshadowed by people like Mandisa and Chris, but he stepped it up and he sounded the best on Tuesday period.
The Bad: Kellie; Bucky
Kellie - I just put her down because she needs to go. Everything about her from the singing to personality just annoys me and that the judges are up her ass is annoying me. They like Kellie because she's cute and acts dumb and is the sweet country girl. I think sometimes the judges contradict themselves, it's like if a person is good, they'll say it didn't do it for them, but when someones bad like Kellie seems to be every time, the'r like your sweet and so cute on stage, that vocals don't really matter. Bottom line, if she stays one more week and someone who is better then her gets voted off again, I will shit myself.
Bucky - I actually am okay with Bucky a hell of a lot more than Im okay with Kellie. His performance on Tuesday wasn't that bad, but most of his performances has been bad. I don't think he should've been picked to be on the show. I don't think this competition is right for him. I like Bucky, he needs to go after Kellie gets voted out.
The Average: Ace; Taylor
Ace - He just sings in the same key all the time and goes into a high pitch at the end. The only time he sounded really good to me was when he was singing Father Figure, it was one of the first times they were being voted by the public. He can sing the way I think a lot of people who think their not talented enough to be an actual singer can sing, you know what I mean. Everyone sings a little bit, but they don't try to pursue it because we know were that good of singers, that is how I view Ace. To me he is still there for looks. He may pull something spectacular off next week, then I'll be like he deserves to be there, but as of right now. I like Ace, but they were far better singers at the auditions and the people who got voted off like Gideon, Sway, Melissa, and Kinnick were way better than Ace.
Taylor - At first I was into him moving all around on stage was okay now its just annoying and when he was singing Tuesday night, it wasn't that good for me. I know a lot of people like him, but he is not one of my favorites, he's too animated for me. He has the personality and can sing a little bit, but I really don't want him to win.

I love Randy Travis too, talking of JC, have you seen Walk the Line? its fabulous!
From what I've read on other posts on here, the general concencus seems to be for Taylor to sing 'Georgia' although I'm not sure thats strictly a country song? Love Dwight Yoakam also, am going to see him again this summer, as he's coming to London :D

You can find a ton of 'not-strictly-country' songs on most country radio stations throughout the decades.
Just a few examples:
'Georgia' was done by Willie Nelson. Mark Wills did Brian McKnight's 'Back at One.' Dixie Chicks did Fleetwood Mac's 'Landslide.' And only God knows why, but Alabama did NSYNC's (yuk) 'God Must Have Spent a Little More Time on You."
I say, since it's 'Country Week', if a Country artist performed it, and it suits you, go for it. Heck even if it wasn't a Country artist, but falls within the Country genre (ex: Bon Jovi - 'Who Says You Can't Go Home'), it should be fair game.

Laraine,
I did see "Walk the Line." My daughter and I went to DisneyWorld in Jan. or Feb., and in downtown Disney we got to see "Walk the Line" and "Capote" neither of which were showing in Biloxi (where we are from, thanks to Katrina) or in Evansville where we wound up. Thought it was fabulous, and I'm glad Reese won...although, having known June Carter my whole life, I thought she played her a little "hard." I agree, too, that Taylor ought to take a run at "Georgia." Or one of Willie's songs...

I've joined the forum on the offical idol site, and rumour has it that in a couple of weeks there will be an American Songbook week (you know those albums Rod Stewart has released)... that might be the very week for Taylor to unleash Georgia on us :-) its very busy on the Taylor thread over there, he's got 8,500 threads running, next highest is Chris with a mere 5.000 lol
Glad you liked the film Patty, I thought it was great, that and Brokeback are my fave films this year.
