View Full Version : Why is Ace's song pick so important?

I understand that everyones song choice is very important. But I have noticed that Ace's song will either put him in the bottom three or keep him out. I've noticed that with some contestants (Chris, Taylor, Katharine) can sing anything, and may not have their best night, but aren't in the bottom three. They seem to have followers that vote for them each week regardless of song choice. I know I do, I have certain ones that I ALWAYS vote for. But for Ace...it is strictly a week to week performance. Does anyone else agree? And if so...What do you think he should sing? I really like Ace (one of my top three.) I think he will have to pull a Bo Bice and come from out of nowhere if he wants to win. But if he doesnt, I think we will still see him around.

Cloie I agree with you. I believe that Ace Goofed when he sang those falsetto. That type of singing is just not main stream. He needs to stick to songs like Father Figure.
But I LOVE ACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Excellent post Cloie4me.

The reason why Ace's song choice is so important is because he is battling the very stigma that got him here in the first place- his looks! If he fails to perform, then everyone is quick to say "He's here because he's eye-candy."

Ace has demonstrated some vocal range, yet he's someone that NEEDS to be singing a high-pitched tune to be able to demonstrate his talent. Not only that- he needs to be entertaining. His Stevie Wonder choice song was within his range, but far from dazzling. His 50's song choice was even worse. What will keep Ace in this competition vocally are song choices that play to his sex appeal and range. So far he hasn't impressed my past "Father Figure".

Ace Young is not exactly noted to be a vocal powerhouse. In fact, he has the kind of voice that is suitable for certain types of songs.
So his choice of song is very important if he wants to tag along with the rest as the weeks pass swiftly by. If Ace ever gets vocally adventurous and decides to try something different, he may just find himself back in his house in a hurry.
It won't be good for Ace to sing the wrong song on a night when everyone else sounds like a million bucks. Personally, I like Ace. However, in the American Idol contest, compassion is something that is apportioned in very small amounts.
For the sake of his fans and himself, let's hope Ace gets the right advice with regard to song choice from now on. You can't stay in the bottom three and get away with it week after week. One day, it's going to be your turn.

I think Ace takes himself way too seriously. I don't know about the song choice...but.... Ace needs to lighten up.

I agree Son, thank you for the feedback. George Michael tunes are best for him, I think he would do well with "Careless Whisper" as well.

I agree the song choice is very important but whoever told Ace singing in the falsetto voice was good for him was terribly WRONG! Every time he's done that he's been in the bottom three!

And am I the only one who's getting really tired of the posing for the camera?

Your thoughts... I think it is because Ace has a weaker voice and if he picks the wrong song it will be really bad. But the others get told the same thing. I think Kelly better start picking better songs for the same reason.

Ace's song choice is especially important for him because he isn't versatile. He can only sing certain songs. I love his falsetto but he hasn't exercised much wisdom in picking songs that work for him. He's a hottie. Now, let's see him back that up with more performances as good as or even better than Butterflies.

And yes, he murdered Drops of Jupiter. :(

I totally agree! Because we all know that if it wasn't for his looks, you know dang well people wouldn't care and just vote him off. He probably would have been gone a long time ago. Some of the songs wouldn't be too bad, but he just tries way too hard to sing them to impress people. I think if he just mellowed out and picked kinda slower songs or more songs like he is used to singing he will be alright. I honestly don't know how far he will make it though, I'm not really surprised when he makes it into the bottom 3.

Ace is okay but I personally don't see the Star factor for him. Let's face it, they can all sing or they wouldn't be there. He seems to put more stock into his looks and his poses than he does in his vocals. If he could ever could the two together, he might be good. He reminds me too much of Constantine, except that Ace has the much better voice of the two.

04-02-2006, 08:43 PM
Constantine is far too superior!! Just checkout his fan base that is still swooning over him! Talking about poses for the camera, who does not do that? After all this is what performing and entertaining are about. You definately do not want someone who has no eye contact with the audience at all!! Ace, I will vote for you!!!

Yeah, Constantine was (& still is) always trying to appeal to audiences by playing up to the camera. That smoldering look, those moves & the whole attitude schtick (none of which ever appealed to me, anyway). And it worked. For awhile, at least.

After some time, he just lost his shine when people began to realize that he failed to deliver weekly.

Yes, Ace is better-looking, more talented, not as smarmy & has a much less leery kind of smoldering gaze compared to Constantine but still, all that charm lasts only awhile. He's been fortunate so far.

However, landing himself in the bottom three twice in three weeks should, hopefully, be a wake-up call to him. He may not be out yet but there is no reason for him to take it for granted.

To say that he (Constantine) lost his shine and that he failed to deliver weekly is totally UNTRUE. His fan club is huge and he has been invited to some many talk shows, new CD out(Betty..........) and also talks about going into acting....Yeh!He is so adorable and appealing, maybe not to you, that he was never in the bottom three. Remember how Paula cried when he was voted out. All of us loved him!!!
Ace is almost like him, a smaller replica perhaps!!!

I'm sorry but could you elaborate? :)

And maggie, Constantine does have many fans. I'm sure a lot of people still like him but apparently, that wasn't enough to keep him in the competition. Why didn't people vote to keep him out of the bottom three as usual before he was booted out?

When I said that he'd lost his shine, what I meant was that people didn't vote as much as they did before, not that his fans all stopped liking him.

I have a friend of mine who votes for Ace at least 150 times every week - based solely on his looks. I can't imagine how many votes he's going to get if he actually sings well! I don't have anything against Ace. I do, however, take issue with his posing which I consider cheezy and fake. I would find him more appealing if he would just be himself and not pose for the camera. Having said that - I still don't think he's the best male singer on the show.

Goodness...when will these people realize that it's a singing competition, not a beauty pageant? Voting for someone based solely on his looks is just pointless.

Why Constantine was booted out????despite he has got so many fans?? That was a big, big, big mystery!! Go to his site and there are so many theories, enough to entertain you the whole day!!!
No one even mention the word beauty pageant!!!! We are talking about the whole package, THE WHOLE PACKAGE!!!!
Anyway, vote for ACE!!!

Sorry, I've better things to entertain myself with than theories of why dear constantine was booted off the show. Like sleeping (actually, I hardly sleep but you get my drift).

And no, I wasn't talking about the whole package. I was referring to an earlier post that mentioned someone voting for Ace based solely on his looks. Duh.

I agree that Ace can sing very well and "from his heart"... But sorry in comparison with at least five other contestants (Chris, Elliot, Kat, Paris and Taylor) he is far away from be the best... He has a very limited voice range, he is allways very nervous in his performances (shaking a lot) and he is facing a lot of problems to pick a song which really fit his voice. I think that Bucky and Kellie have to go home first, but after them... the only thing that will really keep Ace into the competition will be his beauty figure.
I am sure that- as he is a very handsome guy with a good voice - he will get a good contract and have a good career, but he simply do not deserve to win this competition.

Yes, maybe we will see Ace win the competition just because he has a handsome face and he will receive lots of votes from people looking for a beauty American Idol and not the most talented contestant. Unfortunately I think that it should really happen.

Constantine was voted off AI6 because the last song he chose to sing SUCKED SO BAD! I voted for him every week but when it got down to 5 people, he could not afford to screw up. He lost votes by his last song choice and he was waaaaay off key.

This will happen to Ace. His fan base will only vote for him, true, however, the people who typically voted for the one who just got voted off will not be in love with him because of his looks. They're going to pick the best one for that show on that night. I think Ace is a pretty good singer (but hate the falsetto thing) but I can't see him making it to the final two. There's too many great singers with loads of personality.
