If you do a small amount of research you will be able to find that a majority of AI5 contestants have extensive experience singing. I was wondering, if AI was a competition for amateurs only, would it be more true to have unknown, untrained, singers? I have read posts here that AI isn't "Amateur Hour". Would that be so bad? Taking a total unknown and making them a Star? It always seems that the judges are picking those who have already had performance experience. Mandisa has sung backup for several major music acts, which include album backup work. Lisa, Katharine, Kelli, Taylor, Chris............
The only singer who I have been able to find that has no pro experience seems to be Elliot. So if this were truly a rags to riches story he would be my choice to win the whole enchilada. But alas, this is not a contest for the unknown, it is a game driven solely by money and marketability. I still watch, but don't vote, I always have wondered if the shows producers have dismissed the voters and have chosen the winners alone. I know that it comes across as another "conspiracy theory", but since it's conception, AI has Never released the actual vote count. I wondered once if the 1-866-436-5701 phone numbers actually were just recorded messages that told you "thank you for voting for contestant # whatever", without really counting any votes.
I'll continue to watch because I enjoy some of the singers. But I will never really see AI as a "Rags to Riches" competition.
