Jordin and Melinda will be close but I predict Jordin because she is hip and "now" while Melinda is yesterday. MTV vs. VH1. Did you hear the song Melinda sang this week was the newest song she sang to date at 8 years old? Wow, try some newer tunes why dont cha! Jordin sings tunes that appeals to today's listener (and buyer).

I think Jordin would be the best seller out of the group that is left..

if you're basing the top 3 on pure singing talent and nothing else...

Melinda, Lakisha & Jordin

I agree, Melinda & Jordin. There's not really a #3. Just because Lakisha's song was kind of lousy this week!

For the first time ever I was compelled to actually pick up the phone and VOTE.... for Melinda. I don't think anyone else even came close to her performance of Trouble is a Girl.

Maybe others felt compelled to vote for real contestants also and that's why Sanjaya's gone. I could NOT believe he was the one to go. It's still too good to be true. Just sitting over here pinching myself!

well then you obviously don't know what you're talking about...Lakisha is up there with Melinda when it comes to sheer vocal ability. She also took more of a risk than Melinda this past week.

"She also took more of a risk than Melinda this past week."

Rubbish. Utter nonsense. 'Jesus Take the Wheel' is a very simple, understated song, with a basic melody and consistent rhythm.

'Trouble is a Woman' has changes tempo frequently and has a difficult rhythm throughout, the singer is ofte singing against the natural beat. Melinda is the ultimate professional and makes difficult songs appear easy.

Lakisha absolutely destroyed a simple country / pop song.

Oh, and I think the top 3 will be:

Melinda, Jordin and Blake. (I'm not certain which order, but maybe: Jordin, Melinda, Blake)

Yea, and messed up - she butchered 'Jesus Take the Wheel'.

I think Lakisha did a decent job on the song. She'll always be one of the better singers since American Idol's debut. Jesus Takes The Wheel is also a very overplayed song. I hope Carrie will go back into the studio and make another song.

Mister_J I agree LaKisha is fantastic and I really want her to do well. I was just re-iterating the point that her performance of 'Jesus...' was terrible, and this was a real surprise to me because it's not a difficult song to sing; she just tried too hard.
I'm certain she'll come back this week with a knock out gospel number.

I don't see anybody else making the top 3, I like Lakisha but her star is fading fast and she's not as popular as those three. Phil can sing, but I really don't think he's that appealing. Other than looks, I have no idea why people are voting for Chris.

2. Lakisha
3. Jordin

That's not what I think will happen, though. I expect Jordin to make the top two, and maybe even win.

Jordin - But she has got to hit some more home runs though. She has a great performance, a mediocre the next.

Blake - The little girls will vote for him because of his hair. Even though his vocals aren't as strong as Phil.

Melinda - She has the best disposition. Great singing voice. Her singing material is somewhat dated.

"The Tongue Is Sharper Than A Two-Edged Sword. "

This quote really fits Simon Cowell. I know lots of people thinks he's 'being brutally honest", but I can imagine how the contestants feel. The tongue is small part of the body, but compared to a two-edged sword, it can cause hurt (psychologically). He can let the singers know how they've done before making a mockery of them in front of the whole world.

I don't get why people want to watch it if Simon bothers them so much..
That is the show.......Simon being brutally honest, Paula being overly sticky sweet, and Randy to be somewhere in the middle..........

Change any of those three things and the show would not be as good..

He is only REALLY cruel in the beginning, during the "bad" auditions. Those people go through 2 auditions before they get in front of the big 3. Simon and the others come out and address the audtioners as a group, telling them that they are there either because they are really very very good, or very very bad. He also tells them to be prepared for the possibility that they may be very very bad and to think about if they can handle the rejection in either case, being good, or being bad.

These folks know what they are in for, so if they get humiliated in front of millions, they should be prepared mentally for that possibility.

When they get to the serious competition, Simon will say things like "that was cabaret" or "that was a mess", but he doesn't say "you have no business singing and you should go wait tables" except at the beginning.

I agree Simon makes the show, but with Randy, Paula and Ryan, it's a great cast. Simon knows his stuff and what he likes/dislikes. He just tells it like it is.

Too many people these days are hung up on being "politically correct" and "sugar coating" everything to not hurt people's feelings.

AngusN

I think it is great that Simon is so upfront and honest about his feelings. That is the way the music (infact, entertainment) business is, if you're not good enough, send in the next.

I do like Paula, but she is SO inarticulate, it makes me cringe.

Randy annoys the hell out of me; he sounds like a broken record. I wish the producers would provide him (and Paula) with a list of responses. I am sick of hearing the following phrases:
"Dude, that was the bomb"
"It was a little bit pitchy in places"
"Not my favourite performance of yours"
ARGH!

:) Thank you Skylarke for that statement and moral position. I agree with you 100%. :)

I believe just because "The show would not be the same without Simon", is NOT a reason to jeopardize someone psychologically. Also, Simon's remarks does carry through the auditions into the contestant stage. As when he commented to Haley Scarnato after a performance, "I don't even know your name". This is the lowest of the lows response to an contestant/individual. --- Completely Unjustifiable ---

Anyway Skylarke, check out this thread in regards.

I don't know. If Simon's comments would screw up someone psychologically, then they already have issues.

If Simon is the meanest person that they've ever come across, or his comments are the harshest they've ever heard, then they're pretty sheltered.

I've come across people that were alot tougher than he is, and I haven't lost any sleep over it. My coaches in high school make Simon look like a real softie. If Simon screws them up psychologically, then my drill instructor in basic training, would've made them want to jump off the roof. Maybe kids today aren't as tough as they used to be, I don't know.

I could understand Simon's comments about Haley. I couldn't remember her name either. That's how boring and bland she was. She didn't really get any attention, until she her meltdown after forgetting the words, and then started dressing more skimpier

I could understand Simon's comments about Haley. I couldn't remember her name either.

Thanks RushDog for responding. Hope all is well in your life today.

My sentiments also, with respect to your quote. However you and I not remembering Haley's name, shouldn't raise flags and set off alarms. You and I are not before a camera and 30 million viewers, you and I are not before her loved ones [grandparents, parents, fiance, etc], and you and I are not paid over $100,000 per Idol show to comment on their performance, as Simon.

Another Angle:

We all have surnames. We all have a history. I'm sure you are familiar with your ancestry to some degree. You probably have relatives who have fought in wars, for mine and your freedom, and the right to tap on a keyboard or verbalize in a public place, our freedom of expression. I have three uncles who fought in Korea and Vietnam. And Great Great Grandparents in the Civil War. And maybe the Revolutionary War, when Americans defeated the British toward independence.

Does your Surname have value to it ? Do you feel humbled or honored when you hear your
Surname ? Maybe at a graduation ? Maybe at a wedding ? Church or synagogue ?

We don't know Haley Scarnato's history, but what if her grandfather Scarnato died in WWII, fighting the Japanese when Pearl Harbor was practictly obliterated. Recapturing freedom for Europe, and saving Great Britain from Hitler's peril ? Is that not [at the very least] deserving of Simon, [who is British by the way and his Grandparents lives most likely saved by American Forces], Isn't that an excellent reason to show the utmost respect for someones name/surname ?? Especially on American Soil ??

What if Pat Tillmans Daughter was singing her heart out on AI to win the competition ? Wouldn't it deeply offend you if Simon said, "I don't even know your name" ?

Do you, we, and I have Principles in regards ? And should we expect the same from others ?

Kelly, you seem like someone who's very caring and has a big heart. However, I think you're reading into it a little too much, as far as the name thing. What her ancestors did, and her family history, shouldn't have any bearing on whether Simon can remember her name or not. Chances are he did know her name. The point he was trying to make, was that she was extremely dull and forgettable.

Yes Simon gets paid quite a bit for what he does. However, part of what he gets paid for, is to be highly critical. The producers knew what he was like before he was hired. So, obviously that's the kind of person they want.

The contestants know what they are getting into when they go on this show. They know they better be on the top of their game, or Simon is going to let them know about it. Most of the time, when asked whether Simon really bothers them, they usually answer that it doesn't, and look at his critiques as very useful. They could care less about what Paula and Randy think. Simon is the judge they are trying to please.

Show business is very cut throat. This show, and Simon's comments, are just a taste of how rough it can be out there.

Have a great day RushDog ! :)

Although, I must admit, he'd probably be a tiny bit more tollerable with my eyes shut, but it's not just the way he looks - it's that he's boring.

Let's face it - VFTW may have bad intentions, but they know the Worst when they see it. They've got it right this time, too.

Phil is a much better singer than JT and he's not ugly!!! VFTW is worthless crap:mad: for worthless Stern followers.
Phil isn't boring, he's better than watching Chris(and definitely better than listening to him)

Yeah, I don't think VFTW is going to have any impact whatsoever in the voting. Stern isn't behind Phil now is he? I thought that was just for Sanjaya.

And hello, 'licious? Eye candy? Chris? HELLO! He's the only cute one left. Except for that damned herpes sore. Ugh.

Geez I wish someone would send Phil home. I admit he's got a good voice, but the man is soooooooo boring. I can't believe anyone will buy anything he puts out after this is over. He's got absolutely no fan appeal. I agree that Blake and Chris don't have great singing voices, but not all successful artists do. They have to have some charisma - Phil is just a big lump of nothingness. Please go home!!!

Thank you. Those are my thoughts as well.

Top 3:
1. Blake
2. Melinda
3. Jordin

what do you think?

I totally agree with the 3; have been thinking the same thing for a few weeks already. The order will differ though. I think Blake'll be either 2nd or 3rd. If Jordin continues her momentum, she could topple Melinda to come out on top.

I like how Blake is a fantastic performer and is kinda like that lead singer in Jamiroquai, but vocally, he doesn't have enough to match the 2 ladies...:boldred:

why:smilies3:

Well, if I get a real bad vibe from someone, then I realize it's not worth it to be tactful and nice. It really all depends on how they come across.

I also agree with THR's picks. Blake has fallen out of the top 3 with a couple of average weeks. Chris' performance was an anomoly and Lakisha was fallen back to the pack as well.

I'm with the original poster, though in order:
Jordin
Melinda
Blake

Kinda hoping Blake makes it to the final instead of Melinda but he needs to pick up the pace from here on out. "Imagine" was bland.

There is not a shot in the world that a guy should win this competition.

The girls FAR FAR FAR and away are better than the guys. This false praise for guys like Blake and Chris is ridiculous.

Melinda, Jordin, and Lakisha are far and away better than any of the guys.

Can't you people see that the judges are trying to manipulate votes with comments they make?

It has become sooooooooooooooooooo obvious.

1. Jordin
2. Melinda
3. Lakisha

The rest should not even be in the top 10. Idol has certainly declined.

although i'm obviouly a chris fan i think it wld be
1) jordon
2) melinda
3) blake

although i wld love blake to be in the finals coz i believe that either him or chris wld be the only ones to give either girls a run for thier money just based on fanbases. if chris voters are left wth a blake and either girl final, they'll probably vite for blake. and besides as much as i like melinda & jordon. a final with both of them wld be too boring! too similar. and although i agree they're great singers, i want something different from the usual big voice winning.

I just got the Vocal Help Now! DVD that the American Idol Vocal Coach, Debra Byrd made. It's great and has cool interviews with Kelly Clarkson and others and performances (Anthony Federov - hottie!) - plus the great exercises that Byrd does with the Idol's in LA. Next year, you'll be writing about me!
