An interesting thought, considering how many of IdolYous are disgusted and disengaged by Idol right now. If you had producer power, the means with which to get things done, or undone, on this show, how would you change the show? Think about it, don't just say that you would yank Sanjaya. How would you go about changing the dynamics of the show? What would you change, and how? You can change ANYTHING, judges, rules, voting, contestant criteria, etc. I am very interested, so please, share!
I am off, because I have to get showered and gorgeous for SoS. We are going out! Tomorrow, I shall visit again, and I would really love to have some interesting discussion about this show, not just the same old 'I hate Sanjaya" drivel. I really miss how we used to dissect this show on this site. I yearn for constructively snarky dialogue and pithy commentary. So have at this question, IdolYous, and I shall converse with you again on the morrow.
Happy Spring, Happy Easter (to those that celebrate), and Happy Friday (to ALL of us that celebrate.)

Oh y'all are gonna shoot me for saying this but.... I would not change a thing.
My goodness look at the buzz the current mix of contestants has caused! You can't turn on a news program without hearing about sahnjyahyah at least once! All this free publicity is making fox millions. They are selling ad spots for super bowl prices. Life is good if you are Rupert Murdoch right about now.

I would suggest that the judges determine who leaves each week. If audience/viewership participation is deemed so important, allow the person with the highest number of votes per week (in other words, a ratio to not unequally favor those that stay in the longest...) to be brought back during semifinals night.
This would give that person a second shot.

Other than the cheesy group songs, and the fact that the loser has to sing again, I don't think I would change anything about the actual show. I would change the process in which the contestants are picked to go to Hollywood.
I got some insight from a friend who actually tried out for Idol. She told me there were so many talented people who didn't make it through the first round of auditions because of them putting through about 75% of sucky people for good TV. she was one of the people who made it through the first audition but was very disappointed at the fraction of people that were there that were just horrible. I guess you have to go through 3 auditions before you EVER see Paula, Randy and Simon. That means they let alot of sucky people go through. If they actually let only the best of the best make it through, then we wouldn't have to worry about people like Sanjaya.

^ Kitty, on our own X Factor we have a similar scenario where the bottom 2 acts have to sing again for the judges to then determine who goes home, but, alas they don't always send home the one you expect, or think deserves to go home. Simon has been known to say 'I am going to keep the act I think the public will want to keep in', which has not always been the case. Our 'sing off' is a little different however, as on X Factor, each Judge/Mentor has their own acts, a 16-24 yr old group, 25 and overs, and groups, so usually, a judge will vote to keep their own act in, and its left to the neutral judge to have the deciding vote. On a rather scary note for the next series, the minumum age has been reduced to 14! Which means that a child will be competing against someone of 24, in the same category, which I find pretty mad.
