Should have done it like this before.

Nice photo, though I must say it looks a bit airbrushed. Good article. Its a worry re the teeth though.

GUY SEBASTIAN WON THE FIRST AUSTRALIAN IDOL AND, WITH TWO SHOWS COMING UP AT SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE, HE LOOKS LIKE HE HAS WHAT IT TAKES TO LAST THE DISTANCE.

It is not an easy experience interviewing Guy Sebastian, not on this occasion anyway. As he chats on his car phone, he seems affable enough, but the reception keeps dropping out, with words escaping from Sebastian’s mouth into space.

The mission is aborted, but we attempt to chat again a few hours later. This time he is in the waiting room of his dentist, about to have two wisdom teeth extracted.

“I can call you back the moment I get out of the chair,” he offers earnestly, but doing an interview under such circumstances is not such a good idea.

So at the appointed time the next day, Sebastian is found at a Chinatown restaurant. Asked what he is doing there in the aftermath of wisdom teeth extraction, he responds, “I am now going to have to have them out in hospital. But I have just finished eating, so let’s talk.”

And with that, Guy Sebastian is on and chatting, and occasionally singing too. As he speaks about the songs he will be performing with the Australian Philharmonic Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House in May, he often mentions a song and then sings a few lines.

It has to be said that the sound coming over the phone in its a cappella form is more endearing than annoying, and Sebastian’s voice has strengthened in quality in the three years since he won the inaugural Australian Idol.

The song list Sebastian has in his upcoming shows will be a number of tracks from his past three albums, as well as classics by Elvis Presley, Nat King Cole and The Beatles.

There will also be a gospel section, dedicated to the music Sebastian has been singing in church since he was a boy. Now at age 25, he says this is his tribute to the role it has played in his life.

“Gospel music touched my life and it has been a part of my growing up and musical journey,” he says. “Gospel music taught me the power of music and through music how people can connect their soul to a higher being and be lifted. It taught me pretty much everything I needed to know to win Idol and obtain a platform to launch my own career.”

Sebastian has never been backward in talking about his Christian faith. He regularly attends a variety of churches, and has attended the Hillsong Church since moving to Sydney from his Adelaide home.

While some of the hardline sexual politics of Hillsong and other Christian churches have come under question, Sebastian chooses to speak about his faith only from his own perspective.

“A church is just a vessel for me to be able to connect with God, and somewhere at the end of the week that I can get refreshed,” he explains. “I have never come from a place of judgment or putting myself above others, but this [faith] is just something that has helped me so much.

“I don’t think I have shoved this down anyone’s throat, and I don’t think God cares if you are straight or gay or have red hair or are black. I think God loves you just the way we are. I am pretty much surrounded by gay people [in music] all the time, so that kind of stuff does not matter to me.”

Last year, Sebastian was in the tabloid headlines when he revealed he had been subjected to anti-gay abuse when he had been called “faggot” and had the word spray-painted across his car.

He said at the time he was “offended” at being called a faggot and, as a result, some labelled him anti-gay.

“I said I was offended when that word is used, and I only meant I have seen the way it offends people around me who are gay and are close mates,” he explains. “I copped a bit of stuff from some of the gay forums about that [saying he was offended], but I just don’t think that word is appropriate as it is always said out of aggression.

“I have also been called of lot of racial things and it is the same – that is not appropriate either. No one should cop that kind of abuse.”

Because he is a Christian, Sebastian says he is often asked if that also makes him anti-gay. He says with a sigh that is simply not the case.

“That is just a stigma that is sometimes attached to faith, but it is obviously not the way God looks down on people,” he says. “It is more to do with prejudice or just plain ignorance.”

Sebastian does admit, though, he is one of the few Idol graduates who has not played at any queer party events, and says that is something he hopes to change.

“I will definitely perform at Mardi Gras when I am invited – that would be so awesome. I think the girls have been invited because of their disco grooves, and the divas cater perfectly for that event, much more I guess than Angels Brought Me Here,” he laughs.

“Maybe I need to deliver some more disco in my act so I can get invited next year. My favourite Michael Jackson song is Rock With You, and I would love to see that room moving to that.”

And with that, Sebastian is singing again and, it has to be said, hitting all the right notes.

Guy Sebastian and the Australian Philharmonic Orchestra are at the Sydney Opera House on 4 and 5 May. Bookings on 9250 7777 or atwww.sydneyoperahouse.com.

Guy to Rock Roxby

Guy Sebastian will headline a family concert in Roxby Downs to raise money for the
Savings & Loans Tour de Heart, a 1543 km bike ride from Alice Springs to Adelaide
raising money for cardiac research.

The 16 June concert, supported by BHP Billiton and Savings & Loans Credit Union,
will form part of a family fun evening, as well as give the Tour de Heart riders some
much-needed time to rest.

SA Redbacks vice captain Graham Manou is the driving force behind the cycling epic,
and has convinced a group of his friends to come along for the ride.

Born with a hole in his heart, Graham has not let his condition affect his quality
of life but says many people aren’t so lucky.

“Alarmingly, more than 24,000 Australians die every year from heart disease,
and heart conditions can seriously affect how people live their lives,” Graham
said.

“I’ve been lucky that my condition hasn’t had a massive impact on my life and I’ve
been able to do pretty much everything I’ve wanted to.”

Graham has had some great support in his efforts to help the Queen Elizabeth
Hospital Research Foundation, including Guy Sebastian, Darren Lehmann and
Shaun Tait.

Former Australian Idol Guy will be joined by Keep the Change and Painted
Lady for the Roxby Downs concert, which runs from 3.30pm to midnight in
Richardson Place.

The family friendly concert will also have jumping castles, mini golf and side show games
Tickets for the concert are available from the Roxby Downs Cultural Leisure Precinct
$8 each, with family tickets available for $25. Children under five are free

A charity game of cricket is also planned for Roxby Oval at midday on Sunday, 17th
The opposing teams, Roxby Heart and Roxby Soul will each contain their share of
Redback and Australian Cricketers, BHP Billiton staff and some well known Roxby locals

Celebrity Guy Sebastian will also take part, showing the Roxby community he
can also swing a bat.

those a great articles above, loved the OK mag one, and today
HE'S been running with the cool crowd in Sydney for years, now Guy Sebastian is walking in Memphis with some of the biggest names in American music.

The one-time Idol had a night out on the town at the weekend, enjoying dinner with Sheryl Crow and a jam session at legendary blues bar BB Kings.

We hear Sebastian took to the stage with influential guitarist Steve Cropper, from Booker T and the MGs.

Cropper, who was a band member in The Blues Brothers movie and wrote In the Midnight Hour and Sittin' on the Dock Of the Bay, is producing Sebastian's new album.

He is in the Tennessee town until the end of the month before heading to New York and London and back home mid-September.

Catching up ... Guy Sebastian has been making some very valuable friends during his trip to the US. The Idol winner got to hang out with singer Sheryl Crow and musician Steve Cropper.

He's riding a wave of success, but Guy Sebastian is an Adelaide boy at heart says KATE MICKAN

Guy Sebastian loves his home town and says he can't wait to move back.

The 26-year-old moved to Sydney to pursue his now-thriving music career after winning the first series of Australian Idol.

"I miss Adelaide," Sebastian says.

"I think I'll end up back in Adelaide, but right now it's just not an option. For work and stuff I need to be in Sydney"

Before making his mark on Idol, Sebastian studied medical radiation, specialising in radio therapy, before quitting in his final year to become a music teacher and chase his dreams.

"The goal was always to end up doing music, but you get told so much that you've got a one in a million chance," he says.

"So you know you should always have something to fall back on."

However the need for a day job looks to be a long way down the track, with The Memphis Album and a new tour keeping him more than busy enough for now.

Sebastian says the idea to record a soul album started small and ended up bigger than he could have imagined.

"I saw this press release about the 50th anniversary of soul music in Memphis and there were all these songs that I knew and grew up on," Sebastian says.

"My agent, manager and I were all sitting around one day and I was like, 'hey that would be a cool album. No one's really done that'.

"Then my manager got in touch with the MGs, who are a Memphis group who have played on everything from Otis Redding to Sammy Davis."

Sebastian still sounds surprised that he got to work with the soul legends.

"These guys are pushing 70 and they're legends. It was a bit intimidating. I mean these guys played on original tracks and I didn't want to go there and tell them how I thought it should be done."

Sebastian believes he has found his calling in soul.

"I just feel blessed and honoured to lend my voice to these incredible songs," he says.

"They (The MGs) didn't care I was from Australia, they didn't care that I'm not white but not black, I'm kinda weirdly somewhere in the middle, they didn't care that I was on a reality TV show - all they cared about was when I opened my mouth and sang."[/color]

and EXCITEMENT!!!! This is the BIG launch

Sebastian's breakfast treats

Every one has a favourite song and for many soul classics are right up there at the top of their list.

Morning TV favourites David Koch and Melissa Doyle have joined forces with Guy Sebastian to uncover Australia's top Memphis tunes in a special Sunrise Presents: Your Song.

If successful when it goes to air on December 4, the show could develop into a series where Australians are asked to choose their favourite song from a particular genre. The specail will focus on Memphis soul classis, with Otis Redding's Dock Of The Bay, Al Green's Let's Stay Together and Eddie Floyd's Knock On Wood making it into the final of the list of 40 songs for viewers to choose from.

Sunrise viewers have two weeks to vote for their favourite Memphis songs, starting tomorrow.

Sebastian will then sing the top five choices during the show, and it is believed Home and Away's Kate Ritchie may even belt out a tune.

It is perfect timing for Sebastian, who last week released and album of soul classics including Soul Man, Hallelujah I Lover Her So, Under the Boardwalk and his favourite, I've Been Loving You Too Long.

"Singing this stuff makes me so happy," Sebastian said.

"It is what I grew up on and it is also what I do best."

Case of fun at any price

LIZ McKINNON

24Dec07

A DESIGNER diamond ring, 1500 imported Colombian roses, professional salsa dancers and Guy Sebastian crooning in the background were the must-have ingredients for Townsville's wedding of the year.

Construction giant Michael Case and his bride Siobhan weren't sparing a cent for this five-star affair, which is believed to have topped a six-figure price tag.

The couple were married at the weekend in front of more than 60 family, friends and work colleagues in a ceremony that would rival any had by an A-list celebrity.

From the roses flown in from Colombia, thousands of fairy lights strewn around the reception, a giant five-tier lush cake, and more than $400 spent on each table centrepiece, it was all a dream affair for bride Siobhan.

"It was amazing," she said.

"I was nearly in tears all day. It was just a dream."

The event was planned to coincide with Michael's 44th birthday.

The couple had kept the Australian Idol singer-songwriter's inclusion in the wedding a secret for the past few months, not even telling their shocked wedding planner.

The Jupiters Casino wedding reception had been pumping with loud drumming music when suddenly the lights went out, the music stopped and Guy made his unexpected appearance.

He sang Climb Every Mountain in the darkness as the wedding party walked into the room, then broke into the couple's favourite song Angels Brought Me Here.

"I don't think there was a dry eye in the house," Siobhan said.

"He even did this beautiful rendition of Happy Birthday for Michael. It was just amazing."

Siobhan said she and Michael had met at the time when Guy won Australian Idol and it had always been their plan to have him play at their wedding when they could afford it.

The couple eloped in 2005 and always planned to have a formal wedding in Townsville involving the singer.

Siobhan said booking Guy and keeping it a secret had been worth every cent as he spent more than 90 minutes performing, before leaving the stage to mingle with guests.

"We wanted this to be a fun event and one our workers could use as an end-of-year Christmas celebration," Siobhan said.

"It was really nice to share this with everyone."

Siobhan prepared for the event with the help of internationally acclaimed makeup and fashion guru Richard De Chazal.

The former Mount Isa man who transformed stars such as J Lo and Christina Aguilera lent his own dangling diamond earrings and fitted jewels into her hair. She said the transformation was out of this world.

"It was magical. I can't put it into words. It was just something out of this world," Siobhan said. The couple are preparing to stay at home this Christmas with their family instead of heading on a honeymoon.

"It's a wonderful finish to the year and an even better beginning for 2008," Michael said.

I will try for the crystal ball, bubbles... he's in among tough competition atm for a no.1

the album fully deserves it, the SOUND is still amazing. As someone said on a youtube - at LAST a live album from Guy. It is always as it should be, because he is a superb (perhaps the best) LIVE performer.

In fact, just going on youtube and looking at say the vanguard, adelaide (governor) and crown - where he sang quite a few the same because it was the same song set, but different nights (I think there were something like 15 nights in all) - one can see the different arrangements and versions that he and the band flew with!

Is it any wonder that we are all just hangin' out for this next series of concerts, because I can see Guy and Steve Cropper and the rest of the gang - it will be just one jammin fest after another!! :p:boldblue::love:

nice to see you here

I am a Memphis Music fan and I had heard about Guy and was wondering when the cd was coming out. Is AllMemphisMusic.com the first station in the states to play him?

As one of the founders of AllMemphisMusic.com, , let me say how gratifying it is to see so many people enjoying our station.

Let me cover a few, or maybe several things.

First of all.....I absolutely LOVE Guy's newest collection of music. We plan to support this record as mush as we can.

As a native Memphian, who grew up [ teenage years ] in the 60's, and played music in the 60's and 70's, this music is my favorite music. I'm a friend and admirer of Steve Cropper, Duck Dunn, and all of the great and talented people who made music out of Memphis in those days.

AllMemphisMusic.com is a labor of love and besides playing all the great heritage music from this area, we are dedicated to exposing the world to new Memphis artists, Memphis area artists, artist who record in Memphis, etc.

For those of you that are interested, please email us at AllMemhisMusic@aol.com and ask to be put on our mailing list. We'll let you know what's going on with the station. We plan to do even more surrounding Guy's music but are waiting til his US deal is complete. Sign up for our email blast and you'll know when special "Guy stuff" is happening.

Happy Holidays to you all and best of luck to Guy. You must all be proud [ you Aussies ] of your native son.

daddyodewy Posted on: Dec 16 2007, 02:33 PM

I didn't mean to be misleading. There is no US deal now but I can't imagine there wouldn't be one sooner than later. I'm not sure of the legal situation but I think it could be that SONY/BMG has the option/first right of refusal.......but again, I'm not positive and I'm adament about not putting out information unless I know it to be fact.

This record is too good for someone not to pick it up here in the states.

I wanted to make that clear.

daddyodewy Posted on: Dec 16 2007, 03:55 PM

The reason you have been hearing so much of Guy's music the last 24 hours is that we've had it in our feature section.

Although several of Guy's tracks will remain in rotation, I'll be removing it from our feature section til sometime tomorrow.....Memphis time.

Don't worry, we plan to play a lot of Guy's music for quite a while.

Steve Cropper:

Webisode interview, thanks to Brenda.

I got a call from my publisher out in LA and he said, "What are you doing in the next few weeks? I just had an interesting call .. they’ve got a young artist down in Australia and he’s had a lot of success, he’s had three albums out, he’s done very well with it, he’s very popular down in Australia and he’d like to come to Memphis Tennessee and make a tribute album of Stax music".

You know it’s a set of songs, when you start talking about In the Midnight Hour, Knock On Wood, Soul Man, those kind of songs, those are songs that every dance band has to play just about every night.

It’s his fourth album he’s had three albums in the past that have all been very successful down in Australia, and after I got in the studio with him and actually got to see him perform and be around him ..and I’d been listening to him, I knew he was a good singer - what I didn’t know was the fact that he was able to adapt to the soul treatment. I couldn’t believe this guy’s voice. I mean I literally .. it’s hard to say “this guy” because we say it all the time .. it was really interesting to hear his voice ..it was a pleasant surprise. And that was a surprise to see how well he had researched himself, in listening to people like Al Green and Sam and Dave and Otis Redding and Eddie Floyd and they are the creators of the Memphis music, the Memphis sound. He’s mindboggling, and he does it with so much feeling and real honest energy you know ..and to me that’s always been what sells records.

He has it .. he has what we call in the business “chops”.

Cos there are so many young kids out there that have not been exposed to this kind of music, that don’t really listen to what we call ‘oldie but goody’ radio stations or the ‘classic’ stations, some of them get by, but if we have a new young artist that they can relate to and he’s out there doing this kind of music in the true form that it was originally written and produced. I think that’s the way to go and I’m going to take that chance with it and we’ll see how far we go with it.

************************************************** ******************

The parts of the interview with Wilbur Wilde that were about Guy. Spent some time typing it out. Much slower than Brenda, I am sure. But worth it.

Wilbur: And more recently Guy Sebastian.

Steve: Guy Sebastian. Absolutely. We had so much fun making that record, it was amazing. You know, I describe him to people, you know, I say "the man’s got a hundred voices, you know, and you never know which one he’s going to pull out next, you know”. But he does it with so much feeling. He’s so convincing with his voice. You can tell he’s really singing with feeling. You know it was fun. At first I don’t know if I was apprehensive, I think it was just the whole idea. These guys from Australia called. They’ve got this artist that wants to do a sort of Memphis tribute album and wants to come there and cut a lot of the old songs. I’m like whoa okay. Well that sounds like fun. You know we play them on stage all the time with The Blues Brothers, Booker T & The Mgs. But you know, we don’t get to do them with other artists. And it was just ah okay lets give it a shot and see what’s up.

Wilbur: What was Otis Redding like.

Steve: .............The feeling he gave in the studio, we looked forward for him coming back in. We just had so much fun. It wasn’t work. Ah, he just made it a lot of fun. And the same thing with Guy. Guy made recording records fun again, and it wasn’t just work. I think the record speaks for itself.

Wilbur: You’ve written all these songs. My understanding is most of them have been hits. You don’t have to work, because of the publishing. What keeps you in it.

Steve: It’s just something that is a thrill and I will never, ever as old as I get, and as long as I live, ever get tired of hearing any of the music that we do in the studio on the radio. There's just something about that, also love playing in front of audiences. There's really nothing that can take the place of a live audience. But I really, really get a thrill out of listening to the music we’ve made in the studio on the radio, whether it was stuff we made 25, 30 years ago or something we made last month. The thrill of that just keeps me coming back. And I like the hands on, being with guys, especially like Guy Sebastian. Such a fun, fun artist to work with, and being with in the studio. He sort of made it a lot of fun, without a lot of hassles.

************************************************** ******************

So there it is. Think I have covered most of it in these 3 posts. Lots of brilliant comments. Only a few people. But look at the calibre of those people:

John Fry the founder of Ardent Studios and some of its employees: A studio with a deep history in Memphis music.

The Memphis Flyer: Tough even on their own, according to John Fry.

Steve Greenwell: One of the most sought after mixers in the USA.

AllMemphisMusic: Check out their bio's. David Fleichman..........Jon Scott

Steve Cropper: Well much has been said about this man on this forum. No need to repeat it. He is music royalty in the USA and also in other parts of the world.

Perhaps this one quote from The Memphis Flyer is enough to tell the story of Steve and the other Mgs. This is what happened at SXSW in Texas in March last year.
QUOTE

Alas, no such decorum exists in the world of music, as witnessed Thursday afternoon in Austin, where an interview session with Stax Records artists devolved into a free-for-all of fandom and genuflection, a mostly baby-boomer group of reporters and critics having come armed with albums, CD jackets, and other appropriate canvases for their musical heroes to autograph.

These people were music critics and journalists. Not excited fans at a signing.

Music critics are obviously moving towards reconsidering everything., One is coming on board though wink.gif . But I think it is quite likely a journalist from Undercover was in that line waiting for autographs. Undercover was at SXSW, after all wink.gif Perhaps the excitment from the rest of Australia's music press will begin when the Mgs touch down in Australia.

So that is it for now. What happened when Guy met Memphis. Some amazing people wanted to talk about it. But stay tuned. I reckon there will be much more in the coming months. These three posts may become like the Police Academy movies. One sequel after another biggrin.gif

I think its all starting to move THR
that Memphis radio station (http://www.allmemphismusic.com/) plays his music a lot! (I CLick on the small"listen" BELOW, click on set up, and I make it Real Player, and have no probs.

And a few others are starting to catch on. Several of the gospel type radio stations like his "Respect Yourself" from the album.
And to thequestion has he been working out - yes.

He is a muscle maker (I recognise the type, because on my side of the family, that's what we are. Work just an hour or so and we can have a very impressive muscle - already. My husband's side, on the other hand - he can get a muscle like the pecs going well - but only as long as he keeps working on it. Almost immediately he stops, its like watching a balloon deflate LOL!)

And Guy likes his food, his curry (he's actually quite slight, but never appears it in photos because photos always make people look larger, and because of his broad shoulders ) and so his friend, Jason Stevens (you should look at his myspace - he's one of Guy's top friends and an absolutely wonderful person - they often used to take him for Guy's 'minder' but in actual fact he's a very strong Christian and exfootballer) Jason gave him all these exercises which would help him control his weight more easily.

Many artists end up eating at the end of the day, and then going to bed - not a healthy way of living. Now Guy works out at the gym in his apartment complex, rides a bike, runs with Jase etc. AND its a running gag between Guy and the fans. (the biceps, that is)

There is an article in Woman's Day about Alex Davies from All Saint's and her wedding to, cameraman, Justin "Jay" Hanrahan.
Here is the mention of Guy, such a sweetheart and such a great song choice. wub_anim.gif biggrin.gif

Article is on page 4.

And Jay also sprang a big surprise, filming a special, one off performance of Guy Sebastian singing a version of Craig David's Unbelievable for the bridal waltz.
"He came in and recorded it for me on Christmas Eve, god love him", the groom explained.
"He'd just finished touring and for him to do that for both of us, it blew me away".
"There was a big joke about me singing the song for Al , but that was never going to happen. Guy reckoned I should stay behind the camera and do what I do best. I think that was a very good call!"

How Guy stole our hearts By Fiona Connolly

January 11, 2008 12:00am

GUY Sebastian doesn't drink or smoke and won't have sex before marriage. He still sings at church and praises the good Lord every day for his fortunes.

He visits Ugandan orphans and he's good to his mum.
He's a man who, when dakked in public, instantly forgave the lout who left him in his underpants.

When his house was egged and "faggot" spray-painted on his car he simply said: "There are probably ruder words they could have written."

Somebody throw the man a pair of Jesus sandals. Seriously.

Ever since his moving rendition of Climb Every Mountain, the unforgettable Idol moment of 2003, Guy Sebastian has been on the road to sainthood, taking the hearts of thousands of teenage girls captive along the way.

Now he's got them fluttering again with a knockout marriage proposal to his long-time girlfriend Jules Egan which would put most men to shame.

Tom Cruise took Katie Holmes up the Eiffel Tower. Not so original.

Denzel Washington wasn't even in the same room as his now wife Pauletta, popping the question over the phone.

And Ben Stiller forgot to bring the ring.

Singer Seal had an igloo built inside a snow cave on a glacier at 5000m before handing over a 10-carat diamond ring.

Ok, so that's a bit full-on, but The Fro's proposal is certainly up there with the glacier effort.

Walking Jules along a Queensland beach just before Christmas, Sebastian dropped to one knee, produced a 140-diamond ring he had designed himself, professed his love and asked: "Will you marry me?" He then led her across a lawn to a beachfront holiday house, pulled out a key and said: "This is ours baby."

Sebastian had bought and furnished the house, right down to toiletries and a Christmas tree, all without Jules knowing.

Then, just like her own Australian Idol finale, Jules was presented with a newwww car, a 4WD sitting in the double car garage for the couple to use while on holidays.

But wait, there's more. Under the Christmas tree was a Louis Vuitton handbag to replace the one she recently had stolen from her car.

Then another surprise. Sebastian had flown the couple's friends and family up to Queensland to help the couple celebrate.

"Suddenly our friends came out of hiding into the house," Jules said.

So the Love God buys a fully furnished home, a new car, designer handbag, multi-diamond ring and hauls all their friends and family to the big reveal - what a bummer if she'd said "No".

After 13 years together and given the chance to finally consummate the relationship, that was hardly going to happen.

"OMG, how could she say no to that?" one of The Fro's online army of fans said this week.

"Guy's Wedding Joy" in this week's New Idea was "better than a romance novel" another blogger reckoned.

One even admitted to "crying with joy" as she read the story between the chewing gum and Triple A batteries at the supermarket checkout.

So he's a top bloke. But let's draw the line at crying in Coles.

Chatting with.... Guy Sebastian
The first guy to take out Australian Idol, Guy Sebastian is possibly one of the nicest people you could ever meet..so when he asked us to have a chat about his latest CD The Memphis Album we immediately said yes!

Q. How did you get into the whole "soul" thing?
I grew up singing that stuff! when I was younnger, I was in a gospel band and we toured the states, it was pop rock that we were singing. Then I entered Idol and I was singing everything - even Beyonces "Crazy in Love"! People would say I loved it when you sang John Farnham or Ray Charles or "Climb Every Mountain" so when I got to the end of the competition I was like "What do I do?" Suddenly I had these fans, and its not like they grew with me over the yrs and I built on my sound . I had my thing, but I threw it to the side when I did Australian Idol. Its been a journey, just trying to find out what I wanted to do.
Q. How many copies of your own albums do you have?
I dont know, they always go. Furniture removalists will be like " Do you have a copy of your album lying around?" or my piano tuner will say " My daughter loves you, do you have any albums? I always end up with none!!
Q. If you werent on Australian Idol, would you still be doing this?
I dont know! I defininitely wouldnt be up to four albums!! Just to come into the industry the way I did was super fast. It was boot camp and I had massive exposure, and it was a really crazy time. Who knows if I would have "made it" . I did try to get a deal when I was younger, but the comment I always got was, that they loved my voice but I didnt have the right image. At the time there were all these pretty looking boy bands and I was this weird looking fella - it was really tough to get a deal but Idol shattered all the physical boundaries that are in this industry.
Q. Has it helped you out with the girls?
Ive never been that Guy to walk into a room and all the girls jaws drop. I got girls at school but it was always because I was the class clown and I would make the girls laugh. But then you get on telly and you get a profile and things change!
Q. Matt Corby said he didnt feel like he deserved to be at the ARIAS because he was from Idol- have you felt like that?
I felt for him. I really like Matt and it was a hard journey for him - it hit him quickly. Its tough within those circles. I dont get anything like that anymore to my face, but it would still happen behind my back. People werent afraid to let you know their opinions and some were harsh and uneducated, but you just have to grit your teeth.
Q. So youre a bit of a Matt Corby fan?
No one has seen his talent yet- that guy is awesome! I took him fishing the other night until 5 in the morning. He had his album shoot the next morning but look at the guy! He could go without sleep for 20 days and still look amazing!

Guys Album The Memphis Album is on sale now.....

She typed it up for us, as she's a one finger typist, that deserves a Gold Star for effort! :boldred:

Soul legend to play in MelbourneArticle from: Sunday Herald SunFont size:
April 06, 2008 12:00am

IT has been one of the most talked about and downright exciting pieces of television this year and, no, it is not Underbelly.

The ABC's recent excellent specials on American soul music have regenerated interest in the sounds and styles of black music in the US from the 1950s to the '80s - much to the joy of veteran Eddie Floyd, who is to tour Australia soon.

Floyd was part of the successful Memphis-based Stax Records label - which featured heavily in the series - in the late '60s and is the man responsible for such classic tunes as Knock on Wood, Big Bird, 634-5789, Bring it on Home to Me and I've Never Found a Girl.

"Soul music just keeps going and going and that is just so fantastic," he says by phone from the US.

"To hear young people appreciate it makes my heart soar every day.

"That Aussie kid, Guy Sebastian, who has recorded an album in Memphis with the old soul men, well, he has everyone talking over here.

"That kid is great and everyone loves what he has done."

Floyd agrees Stax Records, which became home base for many black soul artists, certainly drifted a long way from what it was set up to do.

"A couple of white kids tried to start up a country music label and we were what ended up happening instead," he laughs.

"You see, their company was based in a black neighbourhood and their sessions came to feature musicians of all races and kinds.

"It was an open house policy. The main thing was you had to be able to play. Didn't matter if you were black or white. Music was everything.

"I started in the '50s myself and saw the birth of the whole thing."

During the '60s Floyd toured the world with the famous Stax Revue alongside other celebrated artists such as Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Booker T. & The MGs and Carla Thomas.

"Of all the artists from that era, my hero was Sam Cooke because, man, that guy did it all," he says.

"He influenced not only me, but a lot of other songwriters. The guy was an out-and-out genius."

Still writing fresh material, Floyd will soon release an album of new music.

"It is called Eddie Loves You So and it is for the new generation of fans coming through," he says.

"In the meantime I stay busy playing solo shows and doing guest spots with the likes of the Blues Brothers Band, Bill Wyman's Allstar Band and Booker T. & The MGs."

The singer says he does not need to work because he could "easily" live off the royalties he receives annually for his classic tune, Knock on Wood.

"Yes, I . . . have been blessed with that song's success," he says.

"But I just love playing live."

Eddie Floyd and The Bamboos play the Prince Bandroom on April 11.

an old article, found yesterday (I remember it well. THIS, and several others in the same vein. I just hope that the person actually then bothered to go and see Guy in concert, as the reaction of the judges when Guy performed his Memphis Medley on Idol last year clearly indicated they had NEVER been to see him in the last 3 years or so! He IS absolutely stunning on stage, live.)

SMS GUY to 1889966

Each week contestants appear in elimination rounds they started out with hundreds. After performing, critiques (using the word loosely) of the performances are delivered by a panel of three judges Mark Holden, Marcia Hines and Ian Dickson. But in a twist that differentiates this from every other talent show, viewers get to vote by phone and sms for their favourite performer and it is this vote, not what the judges think, that determines who progresses.

I've only watched the show a couple of times, but Guy Sebastian is out there on his own. He has an aura about him which is not just due to the studio lights picking up highlights in his afro but which just seems to flow from some internal manifestation of innocence. I'm tempted to call it Karma, especially as with his Malaysian heritage, chubby cheeks and a Ghandi like habit of saying thank-you by bowing with his hands in a waist high prayer position, he looks like a garden gnome Buddha. Whatever it is, he's got it, as they say. Which is his greatest risk in the competition and the reason I am going to do something which I would normally find embarrassing. Yes, I am going to improve the Telstra bottom line, and the show's economics by SMSing "GUY" to 1889966, and urging you to do the same. Here's why.

.................................On the other hand, those people like me, who are reticent to participate in a teen music orgy and begrudge Telstra the extra dosh may well say, Well, hes clearly the best so he doesnt need my vote to win. A post hoc rationalisation for inertia, but one of the most potent forces in Australian politics today. The potential result is that second best wins. I hate injustice, particularly accidental injustice, so I'm going to vote.

Here’s our list of Aussie reality TV stars who’ve become (fairly) famous. Add your suggestions below.

1. Sophie Monk

Since winning Popstars and having moderate success in girl group Bardot, Monk’s had small roles in a couple of Hollywood films such as Date Movie with Carmen Electra and Click with Adam Sandler. But she’s probably most famous for who she’s dated, including Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden and American Idol host Ryan Seacrest. That might be about to change though - she’s currently got four films due for release.

2. Chantelle Barry

We’re yet to see the goods but apparently Barry has a regular supporting role in new US TV series 90210. This could potentially give her more face time in Hollywood than Monk. Barry’s only previous claim to fame is getting booted out of Bardot for allegedly stealing Monk’s money. Barry denied the claims and she was replaced in the band by Tiffany Wood.

3. Guy Sebastian

The first Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian has been the most successful of the Idol contestants to date and reached an international audience through his involvement with the recent World Youth Day.

4. Blair McDonough

He was the runner-up in the first Big Brother and quickly scored himself a role in Neighbours, which lasted five years and made him a familiar feature on TV sceens here and in the UK.

5. Dan O’Connor

Another Neighbours star, O’Connor started on the second season of Australian Idol. He’s been on the soapie since 2005.

The next few spots would probably go to Shannon Noll and Damien Leith, the second and third most successful Idol stars, respectively. And Dean Geyer, also from Idol, has scored a role on Neighbours as well (and made headlines by getting engaged ever so briefly to a Veronica).

Who else is deserving of a place in our reality TV hall of fame?

(I believe Anthony Callea)

Hi, no - this is under Australian Idol, and he was the first one. His WWW stats are actually really impressive, for someone never released properly overseas.

Forgive me, I'm just gonna drop this here
YouTube - Guy Sebastian IVE been lovin you too long ( LIVE)

This was the first time he sang it with the band, at The Bridge Hotel - really, it was rehearsal, but seeing his band was the famous and legendary Steve Cropper, with Steve Potts on drums, Donald Duck Dunn on bass and Lester SNell on organ, it was an impressive night. He'd recorded with them last year and they were so impressed (14 tracks direct to analogue tape, 1 takes) they agreed to tour with him instead of his usual band. Although his usual guitarist came along too (and said afterwards that was the absolute highlightof his life, didnt matter what he did later - to be hanging out, and be part of THAT band, for a tour).

Anyhow THAT url is a fairly lousy audio BUT THE REASON I WANT TO KEEP IT SOMEWHERE IS - the blonde lady that keeps looking at Guy, and LOVING what he is doing, is Patricia Snell. Now she is LEster SNell's wife and has sung with some pretty heavy stuff in her lifetime, PLUS being around some pretty amazing artists. They all love what Guy can do.

So - as you dropped by, - I'll stick a good audio here too.

Oh btw, there are thousands of Guy Sebastian performances on youtube - not exactly impressive counts / views tho. Unfortunately every now and then they get taken down. Most of the big ones are on their third or fourth load up. Some only make it fleetingly.

YouTube - "I've Been Loving You Too Long" - Guy Sebastian Palais March

Its not my favourite video / audio of the tour. But probably the clearer. My own fave is put up by pinkfrangipani.

And Guy Sebastian will be going global in 2009. Believed to be touring with Steve and the boys

No, not on radio - yet.

BUT

you can hear him on www.allmemphismusic.com
regularly.

Both The Memphis Album, and The Memphis Tour (Live).

He's recording the next album now (official 5th - although, really, The Memphis Tour is a 5th CD).

His previous albums are
Just As I Am (just under 7P)
Beautiful Life (almost 2P)
Closer to the Sun (1 or 2 P - I can't remember, but THIS one is a surprise package. He wrote rock, reggae, jazz, (better jazz track on the TSB single though) ballad, inspirational, soul, and the :P "Be Mine")

The Memphis Album (3P and going onwards)
The Memphis Tour (live) with DVD/CD - this was launched rather quietly in May, I think they didn't want to 'kill' too many sales of TMA, and as its really such a classic, it will keep selling for years. I mean its worth the money just for "Green Onions", Steve Cropper & the MGs, alone! I personally think its probably the best they've ever done of that track.

Yep, the performances are on youtube (see teensmum there)

Also this week
http://forums.guysebastian.com.au/index.php?showtopic=23547

This is Guy and wife Jules, talking about depression. It seems just in the last 12 months, people they have known have committed suicide.

Jules very loved brother, Andrew took his life barely 6 days after Jules and Guy got married, before that a mutual friend, a TV presenter, took her own life and Guy sang at her funeral. Not that long ago another actor, whom they knew socially also took his life, and then of course Levi died when he fell from a balcony.

They have up till now refused interviews regarding Andrew, but have been persuaded to go public and ask people that they spread a little love, give a hug, or a compliment, be positive to people around them, go that extra step - and also of course with with article - and also the TV interview (on ACA Australia link - there are numbers and people that some may contact, to talk their way through.

Very sad, but also a positive thing.

It's up on the ACA site already.

Thanks to whomever posted it... apparently only got into Guy when she bought the Greatest Moments DVD for daughter...

After the first Guy performances on the concert, people were saying 'that was amazing'. I just couldn't believe that I'd just seen and heard him live! The cheering was unbelievable! (My friend text messaged me after the last song and said 'I heard it perfectly, I am sitting here crying.) ....... He seemed truly amazed and humbled by the reception he received.

...... People all around me saying ...... 'oh my God that was just incredible!'. I just sat there thinking: 'I can't believe I just saw him and he really is that good!'.

"....Then.... well, again you just couldn't think straight, the noise was deafening. Guy looked drop dead gorgeous in jeans and a white top for 'When I Get You Alone'. Then he left the stage..... Then he comes out, on his own' sits down at the piano, with no other band members or instruments, and starts playing and singing 'Angels Brought Me Here'- . He was completely overwhelmed and so touched, and there were definitely tears in his eyes!! I just wanted to hug him and plant a kiss on those cute little cheeks. ...... But it was still absolutely beautiful. (I cant explain what it is about him. His genuine 'niceness' is just so powerful it's like he has been sent by Jesus or something- No I'm not religious. I didn't even watch the television show, it's just a feeling I get)."

a very special interview (sorry its only in a download, the clickable link we have managed to get has only the interview - but anyone curious or interested will get the added bonus of these tracks which span Guy Sebastian's long career)

Thanks to Christine, Betheo, and all the others who worked to get this. Unfortunately, it does cut out now and then but - music that many won't have heard (unless you have all the albums that Guy Sebastian has sung on) and the interview is well done indeed

----

forgot - in that interview you can learn how Guy came to get into the Idol competition. Its a very interesting interview, all round  :P

loving those youtubes (which we can 0nly get via his Main website now, which is http://www.guysebastian.com

however, those in the US can access them apparently.

Meanwhile, Guy Sebastian bobs up everywhere, loved the interview, love the performance of the other week (how amazing is the audio, quality!!)

This week - other than featuring in the every day ad. for new TV channels, which feature highlights over the years and of course feature Guy winning in 2003, we have had him on the 20 to 1 show, on which he's pretty regular.

This time he was obviouily in the US

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b6/janice13/Brand%20New%20stuff/20-13.jpg

It's all happening.

Oh, and of course in Twitter its all happening. Guy has been an Ambassador for Ronald McDonald House and the kids in hospital since 2004 and took offence (along with thousands of others) at a satiric show on TV lampooning the Make A Wish Foundation and dying kids, which finished off by saying "why bother, they're going to die any how!". Those finishing lines were the worst ever, in my own opinion. Anyhow, its caused quite a fallouit but as Guy once said, he'd rather be remembered for having an opinion, than for being wishy washy!

We are lucky enough to have a download of the interview (or at least part of it) from New Zealand - you'll have to get the video itself ( http://tvnz.co.nz/good-morning/s2009-e090709-sebastianperformance-video-2836461) from tvnz good-morning show

however the download interview (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=N1MUBOWO) is thanks to Janice - unfortunately while a great audio (MP3) you don't get to see his fab. studio and setup.

For those wondering what's happening - Michael Jackson's death has created a sizzling rejuvenation in the recording industry BUT at the same time thrown a lot of spanners in the time-worx so record companies (those still solvent, thanks to recession and illegal downloads) have been rejigging their schedules. It will delay a lot of music which was expected to come out in the last few weeks, up until probably a month or more.

Anyhow, its a great interview - and very interesting :whistling:

It is hard to shake the Idol tag –that much is obvious. Aside from the lack of critical acclaim typically afforded to Idol alumni, there are other factors at play. The quick rise to fame and the media hype that goes along with it has often tapered off by the time even the debut single is ready to be released, let alone any subsequent albums. The chances of a long-term career post Idol are slim to none. Yet it can be done.

When Pitchfork, the online publication that is seen by many as the definitive voice of modern music (and indie elitism) drew up their list of the Top 500 songs of the decade, Kelly Clarkson’s Since You’ve Been Gone sat comfortably at number 21, alongside universally lauded artists such as The Knife, Animal Collective, Radiohead, OutKast and The Strokes. This, by a publication so critically unwavering that their review of Jet’s sophomore album was nothing more than a video of a monkey drinking its own urine.

Guy Sebastian has also transcended the Idol tag to become a critically acclaimed artist. Now on his fifth album, Guy spent six months in New York and Los Angeles with producer David Ryan Harris (John Mayer, Mariah Carey, Neville Brothers) and Fredrick Rodesjo, channelling the sounds of old Motown and worrying little about whether or not this album fits the current musical climate. And, although Guy’s first single Like It Like That smashed into number one, Sebastian is refreshingly realistic about his aims.

“I’m in a really happy place musically,” says Guy, “because this is exactly the style of music I want to do and that I’ve wanted to do for so long. It’s not about me changing the world; it’s just about fun music - pure and simple.”

Not surprisingly it is this simple mission statement that has made this music resonate. Sebastian knows the personal power of good music, and wields this to devastating effect.

“With my ballads, I want to break people’s hearts or inspire them to love,” says Guy. “It’s more of a personal thing than a political thing. When someone puts my songs on the radio, I want it to lift them from whatever they’re feeling. Make them feel great, make them move, make them feel happy.”

‘Moving people’ pops up a lot when Sebastian speaks of the album. Although a great number of musical queues are taken from Motown, Sebastian is aware that more than a hollow retreading is needed if this album is to connect.

“I wrote the music on this album based on how I feel when I listen to the Otis Reddings and the Wilson Picketts of the world. I’ll put that music on and it always just lifts me and makes me feel great.”

And delusions of grandeur and progressive ambitious may be fine, but Sebastian knows where his gifts lie. And he is also smart and soulful enough to be aware of the transcendental power of music –and to follow the path left by those before him.

“Music is so powerful. It’s powerful enough on a personal level, without me trying to change the world,” says Guy. “I just want to change someone’s ten minutes on the way to work.”

Did you know?

-John Mayer co-wrote and guests of a number of songs
-Guy’s last album was recorded in Memphis
-Like It Like That was used for NBC’s Summer campaign

and

Guy Sebastian - Like It Like That
Idol-alumni Guy Sebastian flooded the market with this upbeat song midway through the year, and it is hard to deny its infectious chorus, and summer feel. Channel Seven used this song heavily, radio played it to bits, and it topped the singles chart. The good vibes were felt across the ocean as well, with the track being used in the NBC network's summer promotional campaign.

follows on Guy's tweet re watching "Angels" clip

Guy Sebastian Describes Himself As “A Cheesy Little Chubber”
By Jess McGuire on July 6, 2010 at 12:41 PMWhether you like his music or not, I would suggest that it’s almost impossible to dislike Guy Sebastian as a person. I’ve never met the man but he’s always struck me as a fairly down to earth kinda guy in interviews, and learning that he recently described himself as a “cheesy little chubber” has done nothing to change that opinion.

From the Herald Sun:

[Guy Sebastian] has been working to toughen up his image. He certainly seems less than thrilled by his appearance in his early videos. “There is a channel V thing on with all my videos & i am DYING. Angels is on and i just vomited a bit in my mouth. What a cheesy little chubber!” he recently tweeted.

Now you know how most of Australia felt, Guy! Kidding. You were our cheesy little chubber in 2003, and the nation loved you ferociously back then. Remember when Australian Idol was new and vaguely entertaining and didn’t feature Mark ****ing Holden screeching “TOUCH DOWN” after every song? Those were the days.

Also! I found you a bit cheesy in this video too, Guy. SORRY BUT I JUST HAD TO SAY IT. On the upside, you don’t look chubby any more!

And NOW they have two extra delightful comments from unknowns

I met Guy a few years ago
when I cut off his Fro just before the Aria awards that year
He is soo freaking adorable it hurts, I’ve dealt with a number of celebs in my line of work & Him, Rhonda Burchmore & Danny Green are our 3 faves for being the nicest most down to earth.

I guess it is a bit like a dorky school photo that keeps resurfacing and it makes you cringe every time it comes back to haunt you.

For myself, I thought he was a cuddly Hairbear dude back then who was ridiculously talented and still is!

My bestie was at a charity do and was sitting at at a table next to his which caused her a lot of excitement. The tables were pretty squishy together and when he got up to leave he banged into her chair and he was so lovely and cute and said he was such a clutz to be banging into her chair.

She got a photo and autograph with him because of that and is so glad that he banged into her chair coz she would have been too scared to say hallo and ask him for a photo but he just acted like a regular guy – no stuck up attitude – just a down to earth guy when talking to people.

He went to do Aroma (coffee) festival at The Rocks in Sydney last weekend, and apparently tried to be 'normal' but it didn't quite work. He tried, but got pretty rushed for autographs and photos. Guy's so determined to have as near as possible a normal life but as David Ryan Harris said, its almost impossible to walk a block without gathering some fans.

Will get back, as soon as possible. There are some fab. podcast interviews up - Sheena Metal and icon
