Tabloid TV has learned from the Fox & Idol executives, Howard Stern, VFTW, & these forums. Sanjaya means ratings. Sanjaya, Sanjaya, Sanjaya. Talk about his gorgeous hair & how he is such a celebrity with lots of buzz. He's cute. He's adorable, he's Sanjaya, & he's on American Idol. Sanjaya is now more than simply a noun. Have you got Sanjaya?

I've also learned something. I've said it in response to some on these forums. I have been getting more & more frustrated week after week seeing each & every episode of American Idol & a continuous blur of awful performances by Sanjaya. I even saw the teenybopper in training cry on national television & how Fox & Idol coincidentally caught her reaction on camera. None of it has made sense, but I am now at calm.

I am reclaiming my life in the most subversive way according to those same Fox & Idol executives.

I'm not watching anymore.

If this is the twisted sophmoric plan they have devilishly devised, I don't have to take it anymore. I now have more time, less stress, & I can listen to the music of my picking performed in both a professionally credible & musically gifted way. Sanjaya is mediocrity personified, & he has encrouched into my life for the last time.

So if you are tired of the circus, theatre, & drama known as American Idol, give them the message they do not want to hear. Stop watching & boycott those who advertise during each & every episode. Make Idol's ratings plummet. The Fox & Idol executives don't care about people, but they will do anything to maintain ratings.

Why so much animosity? Yes, we know how fantastically wretched Sanjaya is.......yet, can we find THAT entertaining? I am beginning to, because I have only that choice or following your lead and turning off the tele. I choose to embrace the incredible horror show Idol has become, and enjoy the sheer abomination of Sanjaya. He is starting to grow on me, much like a fungus might grow on a perfectly normal organism. And, I shall say it over and over again...I do not particularly like him, but I am entertained............

This is an existential choice I considered, but I still found a twinge of "laughing at retarded people" sophmoric behavior in it, so I choose not to participate. Sanjaya is doing the best he can, & he is being exploited by several Fox & Idol executives along with us, the viewing audience. I simply don't choose to implicitly condone this kind of behavior by continuing to watch. Their mediocrity doesn't have to translate to my mediocrity, & I won't continue down this path all in the name of being entertained.

I do hope that these same Fox & Idol executives have minions reading these forums. I, for one, don't want to further contribute to their exploitation. I may only be one person, but I am articulating what many feel.

So boycott Fox television & their ancillary network FX Network. We deserve better entertainment than this.

I respect you for your choice. Perhaps others will follow your lead...

I find it amusing that someone with the screen name reality TV says this..

Perhaps you should change your name to PBS TV and change the channel...

Seriously, that is what reality TV is.....it is about exploiting people and we
get to watch while the TV networks exploit them....
Then we all get to sit around and feel superior because WE would never be
so stupid as to go on a TV show and let ourselves be exploited in front of
millions of people....

I just don't get it. Why be pissed about Sanjaya's lack of talent, or Fox's exploitation of said lack of talent? Why? It isn't as if Sanjaya isn't there by choice, his own and apparently a big enough chunk of the American viewing audience. He seems to revel in the fact that he is one of the most currently infamous characters in America. Yes, I do get that he is only a teenage idiot, but he is a savvy teenage idiot. He may be the biggest joke in the country, but bigger jokes than he have capitalized on their jokedom all the way to the bank. Who is the most successful "Idol" in terms of record sales? William Hung, y'all! That's right! Not Kelly, not Clay, not Underpants or Underwater or whatever. (I know her name, I am just being feisty) There are reasons why Wesley Willis has made AND SOLD more than one album. There are reasons why Johnny Knoxville is a star, and it isn't because he acted like a handicapped person in a movie, but because he acts like a handicapped person all the time and films it. People enjoy being entertained, and sometimes that entertainment is disasterously lowbrow, stupid, sad, mean, and terribly unedifying. Think about it: all of the recent horror movies, any and all reality tv, Tyra Banks having TWO shows, Dr. Phil, Tom Cruise, etc.

I get trying to take the high road because you feel above it. I used to think all reality tv was a joke and wouldn't watch. I was a bit of a snob about it, much as I have been about chain restaurants and American cars. However, I watched every second of "I Love New York" and "Flavor of Love" before it. I have eaten at a Hometown Buffet. Enterprise gave us a Pontiac when we were in S.F., and I kind of liked it. I used to think Idol was a joke. I now am addicted to it, even more so when I know I get to see Sanjaya willingly act like a fool for my enjoyment. I also get to watch Jordin emerge as a formidable talent, Blake bounce and beat box around, Gina trying to be the rocker the judges want her to be, Lakisha chasing greatness for her little girl, Chris channelling J.T. Lake and failing horribly, Haley try to sell her legs instead of her voice, Phil/ Nosveratu casing the audience for fresh blood with his giant, all seeing eyes, and Melinda become one of the great musicians of tomorrow. I get to hear Randy say "Check it out" two THOUSAND times, Paula slur and stumble, and America booing Simon for being honest. I get to see Ryan Seacrest and Simon spar in the witty reparte' that hides the fact that they are secretly in love. I get to see tweener girls weep over the country's biggest joke. I get to see Ford desperatly try to hawk their crap cars by utilizing the desperation of wanna-be stars. I get to..............well, hopefully you get it now.

So, watch, don't watch, whatever. I am going to be entertained. AND, IF Sanjaya actually wins, it will be a historical event, and I want to be there to watch when Simon's head explodes, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse ride in, and Sanjaya announces he is the Anti-Christ. I wonder how Seacrest will ease us through that!

I just quoted part of this longer post for reference ... Feisty Kitty, that's the most well-thought-out and cogent post I've seen anywhere on this site. Kudos.

And I don't think Sanjaya will win, but I think he's well on his way to a career in entertainment. :talker:

Hey thanks, oxyent. I appreciate the shout out. As for Sanjaya winning, I don't really think that will happen either,................but it sure would be the most frickin' AWESOME moment of television EVER! (ducks as IdolMe's begin hurling insults and rotten fruit).

I'm not sure that he'll have a long career, but he'll certainly have more than his 15 minutes of fame. He should make the most of it while he can. Definitely he won't last long or be considered a "good" singer, but he'll have a nice little career for a while. Good for him!!!!
