Have there been other Aussie Idols? Or is Guy it? I have never seen any mention of anyone but him. Is he "it" as far as entertainment goes down under?

These are MY thoughts - please note

hiya frank.
I did mention when you or someone asked before.

Those who still have a career through being through Idol

2003
Guy Sebastian winner
Sh ann on No ll 2nd place getter

Paulini - put out 2 albums plus a xmas album (she got a 4 album deal with Sony I believe) is with The Young Divas - great voice and NOW very "Beyonce" on stage. Improved immeasurably with stagecraft, which let her down

Joel Turner - didn't make the cut, he's a beat boxer, but he became World Beat Boxing CHampion in Germany in 2005, and is really a great talent. Just fairly tight in genre - and no, not all beat boxing. GREAT musician / writer / and will keep going, I'm sure. Lovely fella

2004

Ricki Lee - solo career AND Young Divas. She was the SHOCK turf out about midway. Everyone pretty well thought she had it in the bag, big personality. DOne very well for herself - didn't get a Sony contract though. However I would go so far as to say she is the most popular of the Divas, audience reaction wise. SHe has a HUGE following. SHe is currently in the US recording writing new 2nd album. Emily Williams (see 2006) sister Lavina Williams has taken over her spot for the moment. Lavina is fabulous too.

Casey Donovan Winner - 16 yr old at the time and was a surprise winner, and got very little chance. Brought out single and album from between mid November to mid December 2004 but

Anthon y Call ea 2nd place getter got to bring out THE single by 19 December 04, in time for Xmas and album early new year. If you think I'm rabid fan, think again. Has some very influential, rabid and noholdsbarred IT fans based in the US and elsewhere. ??

2005
Kate Derauge - part of The Young Divas. Good voice, and for me - she has probs on stage with stance. Generally, the hands are 'star fishing' and 'window washing' at the same time.

Emily Williams - great voice, she is a little Tina Turnerish and I believe great potential - may even be a huge potential.

Oh Lee Harding - the cute punk rocker. A real sweety, no wonder he 'punked' to give him an edge. He's got a good following, and a band.

Dan ... forgotten for a minute will come back and put it here. He has a great following too. Fabulous voice, dreadlocks, good musician.

The 2nd place getter for 2003 had both of them as support artists for quite a few months when he began his tours for his 2nd album. Good marketing, there.

2006
Damien Leith - think Roy Orbison voice wise, but he's slightly built, a musician, aged 30 and although not fascinating off stage can lift it up as soon as he goes to perform. For me, I find he does too much falsetto. One or two songs - very nice (I actually liked him in the comp) but more than that, too much.

Jessica Mauboy - star quality on the stage and a lovely voice. only 16 last year. Lets not push her - she has a lot of potential. Beautiful to look at and listen too. One BIG prob. We may have too many similar.

(and natch there are reasons for my strange posts. Read some of my other stuff - self explanatory there, as to why I have not written up more)

I should add, in Guys defence and my own. Guy IS something else again. He is hugely famous here, although naturally the others fans will deny this. One only has to see the poor thing wander through a complex though. Or, as last year, take part in a TV show where he swamped the others, and the votes. They (the television show It Takes Two) didn't even show (and they filmed it, dammit) him performing with his partner at the Melbourne QV. I guess if they had, it would have made it even more of a schemozzle. All the other singers got a chance to show what they did normally, 'cept Guy :(

oh I should explain THAT re It Takes Two. Guy was still writing his 3rd album, had plenty of BIG gigs, but quiet overall for the public generally (like 50,000 at Parramatta - stuff like that). Anyhow the It Takes Two - a singer and a known celeb. He got a lovely girl who had been an Olympic champion swimmer for 3 olympics. She had a great voice, b ut kept losing it on TV - sort of juuust went off key every now and then. She shouldn't have gotten more than half way. But by this time Guy had a huge following. In fact from the first show and the screams and yells and everything else. Somewhere here there is a media comment - roughly that he added to the show immensely and it would have been far poorer without him - but he is just too good, too big (as in famous, popular, etc) for shows like that - it just wasn't fair to everyone else. SO I guess that's why they didn't show him doing HIS thing during the week. We know they intended to. But just one look at Lets Stay together and you can see why they couldn't make things more unbalanced than they had been. The IT2 performances are all on youtube.
