Guy nearly quit after gay slur

GUY Sebastian has admitted he almost quit the industry after he was subjected to gay taunts and had his Palm Beach house pelted with eggs.
The original Australian Idol, who moved from Adelaide with girlfriend Julie Egan after winning the contest, has revealed the abuse from the public almost became too much to deal with.
"Someone spray-painted the word 'faggot' on my car,'' Sebastian said.
"I grew up playing footy, I worked as a forklift driver at a warehouse in Adelaide.
"I move to Sydney and became a singer and suddenly I was a pansy and getting people calling me 'faggot'.''
Sebastian said he was offended by that word because 30 per cent of his friends were gay.
He said the negativity hit him when he was struggling to finish his third album, missing several record company deadlines.
"There's always that five per cent of people who are destructive and want to rip you down,'' Sebastian said.
"They just have to say bad stuff to you like 'You're a has-been' and 'You're a faggot' ... really rude stuff.
"My house was getting egged, I was getting abused in the street.''
The 'Fro said he considered quitting singing altogether as he struggled to deal with the abuse.
"I was thinking about just being a producer behind the scenes, running a studio, and not having to go on TV or deal with the public,'' he said.
"I was in a bad state for a while, I didn't want to see anyone. Any time my music career would come up I would get emotional and stressed.''
Sebastian credits his strong Christian faith with helping him through his dark times.
Contrary to the gay taunts, Australia's most high-profile abstainer from sex said he was "dying'' to consummate his relationship with Egan.
"I've got no regrets about telling people I'm a virgin,'' Sebastian said.
"For someone who doesn't get what we believe it's very hard to understand. Every bloke, including myself, is dying to have sex. Dying.''
He said holding out was by no means an easy thing to do.
"But it's just a matter of controlling the physical and our faith,'' Sebastian said.
"The aim is to abstain until marriage, but it's tough.''

I'll post another when I find it. He wouldn't quit - but he HAD huge pressure from the second he became Idol. Did you know he brought out the single immediately - as I guess they all do, had over 32 interviews the following day after he was declared, the 2nd day it was in to the recording studio to record his album - 6 days later it was finished BUT during that 6 days they flew him to another state, 'coptered him to a TV studio - he sang, got interviewed - 'coptered him back again and back to the studio.
He was supposed to do signings in almost every state but we had a huge heatwave and one fan nearly died - there were around 5 - 6000 there and it was too much. Staff didn't bother to do anything re the public but got Guy (we're talking just 22 yrs old and MUST have been suffering from overdose of everything including extreme tiredness) to make the announcement AND sing!!
Anyhow somebody got some wisdom and when he began to tear up (I mean the fan was taken to hospital to the ICU, and Guy was told he was near death) they cancelled all the signings and let him have a couple of days off instead.
Because - a week later he had to be in the UK for the World Idol thingy, and then fly back (we're talking 2 days - whenever we go and wherever we go from here) for the CHristmas Carols at Sidney Myer Music Bowl, and BACK again for the UK World Idol announcements!!
And back again in time for the rehearsals for the HUGE, RECORD BREAKING concerts around Australia and the second single. By the time it was nearing end of January 04 he'd have hardly drawn breath.
Oh BUT - they flew him to Malaysia, Phillipines, Indonesia - back to Australia where he touched Aus soil for 13 hours to do the Australian Gospel Music Festival and back to Malaysia again.
AND then over to New Zealand and judging stint and appearances....
if you get my drift.
Do you know? Australian public were never told any of this? His management and Sony just sat and did other things, and Australia never knew - only his fans. He was flying to the US, Europe, UK, flitting back and forth to Asia for stuff while the 2nd place getter got his time in the limelight. Which is good - but BUT Australia as a whole just thought Guy had 'died'. Instead he was doing so much.
And it kept up. And the awful thing in all of this was he had no real 'friend' backup. I mean he'd been taken out of his state and dumped! He got an apartment but had to go shopping to get stuff. No-one had any commonsense in Australia, they had no idea. He could hardly shop - but they 'let' him. Girls jumped in his car at traffic lights - he was given this great, but really recognisable car - I mean the following year the stupid Idol cameramen dwelt lovingly on his number plate and car - I mean for around 15 - 20 seconds!
Oh - and the other crap that followed? The name "Guy Sebastian" was second only to Eminem on the Google searches at the time believe it or not. So when his 2nd album came out, Beautiful Life and all the crap that comes with being an Idol (in Australia it was horrific - I swear if he coughed they would have shouted 'karaoke' - and the poor fella always did his own arrangements! The others just sang! ) Anyhow, one fella was selling his website - we found out later - and ran Guy and the album and any sales and any singles and ANYTHING he could (because otherwise if he praised him, well his muso people would think his web site was crap, you see?) so he got huge hits! Once we caught one we never went there again, and several cancelled their subscriptions to the music site. We'll certainly NEVER go there again, it was unforgivable.
Sorry for this fill-in but WE know - he was run, ragged. He's a workaholic himself, anyhow. So he was just worn out with the fame, the media stuff, everything, I guess. Fame is NOT all its cracked up to be. As soon as you get to the top of the heap, everyone but everyone wants to pull you down. And then he did the World Vision trip to south Africa which was pretty heart and gut wrenching. But he also did a trip to Kuala Lumpur with the Paradise Team, who included his girlfriend and brother Ollie.
Anyhow - last year, he took on a few big gigs, 10,000 here, 4,000 there, 50,000 here (Parramatta, that last one). And the television series. And he started breathing again. His girlfriend Jules moved to Sydney too.
And our fella is back and rarin' to go. But that beautiful, naive musician has gone. What we have now is fabulous - but Nickelodeon 2004 when he won Best Video I think it was (because 2005 was about 5 awards including Fave Aussie, and 2006 was Fave Aussie again) he was young and enthusiastic and reminded me of a gorgeous puppie wagging its tail. You all know the sort, you want to get him and give him the biggest hug.
NOW we have something much more powerful - and we wouldn't mind giving him a hug still. There was a great article late last year or early this year which was a sort of followup to the one above. Or a different version.
Ooops - I have here in my paste area a download....

Nup - but just stating - the facts - no fawning Frank my lad. I'll do that for you
*leer*
These are the facts man - which didn't reach Australian public knowledge. We feel pretty strongly about it.
Ahhhh I see where Dautry band is about to come over and do its thing. People here would be interested, huh?
The thing is
you need Plat4 to get Sony's okay to tour. (They apparently don't count those they don't want to tour ?? Guy reached almost 7 plat with his debut album). Dautry did that apparently so they're okay.
You should get the 2nd place getter of 2003 sometime next year, they're working very hard on that one.
So there - hah hah!! You miss.
ONly kidding, I;ve just come home and lots to do.
Hey - have you seen the film "Hot Fuzz" yet? Did you ever see "Shaun of the Dead"?
Well - my friend and I enjoy quiet whodunnits - Agatha Christie types - little English villages.
Hot Fuzz ISN'T a quiet whodunnit!
But it IS very funny. Particularly if you are esconsed in cinema awaiting the quiet whodunnit....................
:)
