It's annoying when they're saying "it's a singing competition" because if that was all it really was then it would be ON RADIO where you wouldn't be able to see the contestants.

EVeryone is going to pick favorites when you can see them.:p

They also need to quit carping about the poor showings last night. Sani (for one) should never have made it past the group round. Some of the poorer performers are there because the judges put them there.

AGREED! (I'm just like Paula, I can't think for myself)

Seriously, the judges blew it big time putting the ones through that they did put through. I wonder if anyone like, producers or A&R people have any input into the decisions? I honestly don't know what they were thinking when they put Sanjaya and Sundance through.

I wholeheartedly agree with this posters premise. Yes its a singing competition but the name of the competition is " AMERICAN IDOL" as in teen idol ect... You have to have a great style about you and great looks also helps. Why are they still trotting out the likes of Kelley Pickler whom barely can carry a tune? Its her looks and likeability that make her a favorite and not so much her singing. "Her new twins dont hurt either. LOL

You do have a point there, Sly. I wonder how different the voting would be IF the contestants could not be seen. However, that's why we need to vote for the best singers, regardless of what they look like or what kind of hair they have. Chris S. is one I voted for and HELLO - neither his hair or his total appearance for that matter had absolutely nothing to do with it. On the other hand, Sanjaya has beautiful hair, a beautiful smile and a sweet personality BUT HE (IMO) ISN'T A GOOD SINGER. I think it would be easy to form that same opinion by just listening to them on the radio.
