I agree its a shame. I find many forums I go on simply rely on mp3s - which is wrong.
Some are fabulous singers but their PERFORMANCE lacks entirely. Or they have no stage presence. One can't tell, simply from an mp3.
Even a very neatly trimmed performance on video can sometimes be erroneous.
Fr instance (GUY LOL) - one of his most ardent supporters was actually a supporter of another artist. It was all entirely new, in 2003. Anyhow she managed to get tix to the television studios and took her daughter.
All excited to see their favourite.
And then Guy came on and to use her words "she couldn't look away". He just has this incredible charisma and stage presence, live.
Another said she loved the whole of the show, and was admiring a whole bunch of good looking people.
But then she noticed, slowly, while she was admiring the "Mills and Boon" accepted 'handsome' and 'beautiful' people, her eyes would keep straying to where Guy was. We had 'backstage sort of thing, on a Thursday - where we would be treated with what had gone on during the week. Those first year ones were so busy, it was ridiculous.
But Guy got a huge following, simply by the fact his 'persona' I guess just comes over on camera.
If you use that Alexa site
http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?url=guysebastian.com.au
that's his, fr instance - just look at the hits, and page views and everything back to 2003 - easier to put that there, and just change the artist -
you will see his huge hits and ranking - you can put another artist in to check the stats against his.
some of the big favourites over the years from the Australian Idol competitions are
Shannon Noll - no 2 in 2003
Casey DOnovan - no. 1 2004
Anthony Callea - no. 2 2004 (actually, was no. 1 - this was an impossible outcome, absolutely)
Kate D'aruge - no. 1 2005
Emily - gosh, forgotten her surname - same as Lavina - and she was my favourite too - no. 2 2005
Damien Leith - No. 1 2006
Jessica Mauboy no. 2 2006
If you do a v. on the alexa site you will notice the differences.
ANyhow - thats where we are at present.
I do think its a shame Oz idol isn't shown even in New Zealand anymore.
Guy's music really hasn't been released overseas since they let Angels, and All I Need Is You (No. 1 and 2 in Asia and New Zealand - 2004) and Kryptonite - halfhearted release, Sony couldn't be bothered. So we're very rightly proud of what recognition Guy has seeing that Oz Idol was never released and his music hasn't been released in US or UK.
He has such a great following, considering this.
I'm happy to send dvds of live performances. He is the ULTIMATE live performer.

frank, hope u at least are reading this.
Interesting. Since we started 'chatting' re the alexa site on Guy's forum, we have discovered (picture huge laugh here - we don't take anything too seriously, because the more we find out about marketing, and ummm the record / music industry, the more shoddy it becomes).
Anyhow
the 2nd place getter in 2004? should be a
.com.au
IS in fact a .com.au
BUT now
changes to a .com
(are you with me so far :) )
the .com site is linked with (get this)
something like Exotic Luxury or equivalent (something in china)
and So Fresh something or other, which is apparently somehow linked to sony.
so THAT artist NOW gets the benefit of
.com.au
.com
and the linked sites!!!!
WAY to GO!!!! Do you think you have IT people attached here, who can do that for you? Might add - the singer has nothing to do with either of those other sites - just gets the benefit of the stats. Amazing, huh?
Now we are waiting with bated breath for the 2nd place getter for 2003 - albums now suddeny being sold at half price which will no doubt boost immensely his sales and standing (wish Guy's albums would sell like that - they are no where, but the other lot are EVERYWHERE - just not selling).
Anyhow - we are waiting to see if sonybmg.com.au suddenly get thrilled with this idea and attach THAT artists to other sites. As long as its not Guy's - go for it.
I tell ya!!! The marketing / music industry is just one huge morass of jiggery pokery! If we didn't love Guy's voice and music so much, we'd figure he'd be far better out of it.

Well Frank. Looks like ummm IT expert (??) comes from the US?
Meanwhile, back at the Caplice ranch
Caplice Team had a sensational meeting with Guy on Friday.
Guy is very close to deciding on his third single from CTST and we will then engage Sony in the creation of a fabulous video and set a radio and commercial date.
We have a big week of Guy action ahead.
This Thursday Guy flies to Adelaide for a Special winners SAFM party, Friday see’s Guy in Melbourne for a photo shoot with The APO.
We are also in the process of locking in promo to promote the APO shows- we are looking at a Kerrie Anne performance and also A Sunday Show piece.
Other key Guy events – Guy will be made an Ambassador of the Adelaide Crows and attend their annual dinner April 1st.
This is all good news and I think what a lot of us have been waiting for!!!
Looks like there is also changes happening in Caplice, David also said this:
the Caplice Team is in active recruitment mode – we are looking to recruit a dedicated Management Rep who will work for us exclusively on the Guy project. Once on board that individual will 100% report all fabulous news to the mods
From today.
SO they should. Do they realise that Guy's stats, his huge standing - even with that other site working so hard, and taking stat data from the other sites to help push their artist up
Guy still blitzed.
He also came No. 4 in the Home Page hits for Feb 07 for Artists. Why am I so pleased?
Because on 4% of Guy's traffic come through the Home Page.
:)
I've now booked for the other 2 concerts in Melbourne I can't help myself. I missed one last year which was a one off due to circs beyond my control. I have at least a dvd with not great sound.
Even female his backing singer, Prinnie obviously thought it was something absolutely out of the box - someone else was talking and he was over near her and she said something - and bless him, he does this blush and reallllly embarrassed grin and sez
"Thank you. Thank you very much."
I am NOT missing one of the incredible concerts. I know what he can do and will do and Closer to the Sun is only part of it.

I guess you all have the same competive thing happening? The sheer bitchiness / nastiness / no holds barred from fants of different artists?
Its amazed me, new as I was to all this. But we see it on the football field of course and other sports arenas. I should have been prepared.
What gets to me unfortunately (no Frank, I know you are just pushing buttons *purr*) is that some will take great pains to run the other artists down. They will be spewing vitriol on multi national threads and I just don't want to get into that because the only way to defend, really, is to drag other stuff in - and where will it end.
What REALLY gets to me is
WHY can't THOSE fans be really really happy with what their own artist has achieved? Are they really so afraid of being shown that its all a sham, or something? On Guy's forum, nothings 'hidden'. Its all there, for anyone. And yet this other lot (okay, I'm getting it off my chest - go have a coffee or coke or something), go on and on and on - and that's fine. I wouldn't even get involved - but then they get their claws out, sharpen the knives and go for the big kill. And that's why I'm here getting it off my chest.
Look, 75% of the thing has been marketing. Very very well done. Brilliant job by the record company, can't fault it and should get that artist over to the US - where its to be hoped they keep up the same marketing techniques to go with it. So - you in the US should get a single with a poster, a single with a dvd, stamps (?), specials, even a free singlet LOL, freebie single with the album, there'll probably be a couple of charity ones - one which will come in with a hugely well known artist - just to make sure. There will be nominations galore which the artist will win of course. And the album will be available everywhere - I mean - everywhere! And a sale of it about every 3 months. (But when its announced that the artist has broken all those records - none of these pertinent facts are added, of course).
And as for the concerts? Welllll - that artist's first concerts, done for around 4 months, just happened to have the major support acts from the preceding competition - TWO of them!!! So they brought in their own fans of course. The artist I'm talking about just COULDN'T miss!!! Not a sausage!! (And even with that, the very first show that artist had still only managed around just over 200 turning up! Do I say it on that thread? No *sigh* - it'd be tantamount to a scratching fight. I just want the facts 'out here' somewhere. For posterity, as it were.
Last comment (sorry Frank - I'm really p***d off, have to let fly somewhere) is in retaliation to comments re Alexa site and clicking etc and etc. Fr one thing, Alexa takes that into consideration. The other thing is - we have been advised very seriously by THE big fan of that other artist that the reason that artist doesn't have a huge showing on the "Home Page Hits" top list, or Alexa is - they do everything by PM!!! She obviously forgot the major problem there - you have to log in first.
Ahhhh I feel better.
Perhaps I should go shopping?
ps
I'm about to leave. But honestly! The lengths those nasty ones go to. Did you know they came on, posing as 'fans' and said that all the tix had gone, to one of his concerts? Not to bother trying to book? I thought she must have been 14 - but she was 18 apparently! Well, on the outside, anyhow LOL

ARE YOU BOREd?
LOL
http://www.livingroom.org.au/blog/archives/australian_idol_the_final_two.php?page=10
Its not all good, and it probably runs much the same as your countries. But if you're bored, its interesting.
Just gets a bit hot under the collar LOL (but cmon its 5 years ago, so to speak)
oh, I should explain. ALl the comments there are to be taken as 'heat of the moment'. As a Guy fan, I don't worry about the anti-Guy fan comments. Only wish I could add mine LOL! But - looking back - its fun. And interesting too, this far down the road. I'm sure you'll see SHannon launched in the US very soon, sony have been working very hard - I suspect prob. end of the year should do it. His voice and vocals remind me of The Fray. Very much so. Anthony is like the taller fella in Westlife. Guy is - something like ' arrgh forgot - who's the fella who sang :"Don't Know Much"? A bit of that, sort of. "Let;s Stay Together" - a bit like that - 4 octave range though. You might get lucky - or Guy might go gospel-ways into the US instead.
Personally - you have enough good singers there, and Asia is closer for me to get to. I haven't been to India and want to go back to Japan. He DOES have a huge lot of Canadian fans - there's a website somewhere. So perhaps well come and see Guy perform in Canada some time. Otherwise, if ppl want him in the US for a quick tour - you'll have to contact Sony and SAY SO! Sony execs want rock (??) ballads and so have gone with Sh. and Rogues.

should add, after all that.
GUY was the one who received the comment from D ick o that "You're the best unsigned talent I've ever seen!"
At that time he was not only a judge, but the marketing manager for BMG. And I might add (having seen the show *coff* quite a few times now LOL) slowly Guy kept getting the judges choice for the best performance with D ick o saying that by the time they were down to the last three, he was pulling away from everybody. At the time of the Aria Awards the media comment was 'if cheers are anything to go by, Guy Sebastian should romp it in. He received more cheers from the waiting crowd than most of the celebs'.
Ahhh its nice to reminisce. Just got to watch a few today. Bring on the Opera House Guy! It should rock the roof off!
