Good points on Ron Paul (my congress critter) and some excellent points on evangelicals and their involvement in politics....

Good quote at the beginning:
Evangelical Christians are already beginning the process of selecting the Republican presidential candidate whom they can anoint as their successor to George W. Bush. Somehow, evangelicals have this deluded idea that President Bush is one of them. How they came to this delusion both fascinates and escapes me. Bush is anything but one of them.

Here;s the thing X1, I agree with a lot of what you say. We like Bush because he is a born-again Christian, prays and talks to God all day about EVERY decision (like we're supposed to), and because he is a decent, honest, wise man of integrity. He's not perfect buy we honor him anyway.:D

You and Chuck are right about us wanting to pick a winner. So far none of the candidates is that to us, but it is still WAY too early to decide. The libs are doing it now to take attention off Bush. (They HATE him!) People jumping into the ring now may very well be burned out by Nov. 08.

Paul may be the nicest guy in the world but I do not think he can win. And he would need a major makeover by a miracle-worker stylist to even be able to compete.

I quit voting to 'pick a winner' a long time ago. Now I only support a candidate that I agree with on most of the issues. I don't agree with Ron Paul on everything, but the vast majority of items.

And as far as W, I did hold my nose and vote for him. But I knew he was another politician that 'talked the talk' without 'walking the walk'. The only things W has done for evangelicals is give them lip service (in some speaches) and take their votes. He's invested zero political capitol to advance any evangelical cause, yet the evangelicals are the core of his support.

Personally, I gave up on supporting a candidate that the evangelicals endorsed years ago. While I agree it is our civic responsibility to vote, I think far too many Christians are expecting change in our society to be implemented from Washington. As a Christian I believe that the only way to change society is from within, one heart at a time. And that cannot be imposed by government. If the people change, they will force the govermnet to change.
