You have three great candidates to be president in the next election! How exciting! Which one do you want to win? They all seem great to me!! A win, win situation!

A lot opposed it. As did I. But I'm not really a registered Repub or anything. But Ron Paul is my congress critter and I like him a lot. Whenever a bill comes up, the first question he asks is "Does the Constitution authorize Congress to do this?" and if the answer is 'no' (as is the case in 99% of the legislation nowadays) he votes no. He's more a Strict Constitutionalist rather than a conservative. More toward my own view.

Had the Constitution been followed we likely wouldn't have been in Iraq in the first place. It is the responsibility of Congress to 'declare war'. I've read the Constitution and nowhere in there is the 'authorization to use force' mentioned (hence Ron Pauls opposition as a matter of principle). Congress did not declare war either in Afghanistan, Iraq, or even Vietnam. So with regard to Iraq, neither the POTUS nor Congress fulfilled their obligations to "We the People". The President used his 'bully pulpit' to press for a(n undeclared) war in the wrong place at the wrong time. Congress did not perform their role of oversight and due dilligence. Most who voted in favor of the initial Iraq 'authorization to use force' resolution did so simply for political calculations. They saw how the previous congress critters suffered for opposing the first Gulf 'War' and didn't want to suffer the same consequences. Shame on them. If it's wrong, it's wrong. But most didn't have the courage to stand up for their convictions. Now both sides are playing for political points in the whole matter instead of proposing and advocating solutions. In the meantime soldiers and civilians die.

And a lot of other conservatives are seriously opposed to the Iraq war as well. I think the most vociferous is probably Michael Savage. He pulls no punches in his lack of respect for the administrations execution of this 'war'.

I like what you have to say TX and I agree......I don't think we should have gone it was pure politics....Osama attacked us so therefore we attack Iraq.......hmmm never made any sense to me but what do I know! I knew when we did attack Iraq it was a big mistake and who knows how long we will be there.....Bush will be in History books for being an Idiot.....He made a huge mistake and I doubt anyone he endorses will ever make it to the White House.....
