The age old question: Looks or talent?

I remember when Kelly Clarkson was in the bottom 2 with Justin, I remember hearing little teeny girls saying "Kelly's ugly and she can't even sing." I remember the guys going "where's Ryan Starr?"

I remember every single person who knew what talent was saying "Kelly Clarkson was it". Now, here we are years later and she's the only idol so far, with some kind of staying power. Why? - because someone went ahead and voted for talent instead of looks.

So, the question I have for you guys is as a record exec, would you choose a hot marketable singer and work around the talent, or pick someone who is less blessed with looks, but moreso with talent?

I pull for the eye candy when I'm watching the show. I'd probably do the same if I was the record exec. Isn't that what pop music mostly is these days (form over function)?

I'll go for 60% looks and 40% talent...
If I had another Britney Spears' look and body coupled with 50% Britney's talent, I'll make a few platinum records and humongous amount of money from MTVs...:D
