View Full Version : Just some fun 'Bible' stories

I figured since everybody is going to keep talking about and throwing religion in everyone else's face.. we might as well just have a forum about it.

So I'll start.

Here's some good stories or 'inaccuracies' if you will to get everyone started.

Some of this is from me.. some of it is from other 'thinkers'.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

If the Bible is the "Word of God" and God is perfect then the Bible must be perfect. One would have the expectation that someone who created the universe would have a pretty good idea about how it all worked and that his books would be accurate. Well ... not so, as it turns out. The Bible is full of serious errors. So many errors in fact that it makes you wonder where God went to school.

First - the world was not created in 6 days. It just didn't happen that way. But - you say - to God a day is like 100 or 1000 years (depending on your beliefs). Well - come on! Why would it take God 100 years to create something... or 1000 if that's your belief. Couldn't he just 'snap' his finger and whatever he wants, he gets??? And also, If God is omnipotent and he's writing a book for people to read and understand - don't you think that God knows how long a day is?

Seriously.. why are there so many 'mysteries' to be solved. Wouldn't God, if he's writing a book of His word... make it so it could be understood? Seems very elementary to me. So - even if a day is 1000 years that takes the age of the universe up to what? 12,000 years? Where did the other 15 billion years go? Did he just forget about them like he did the dinosaurs???

We are seeing stars and galactic clusters out there that are 10 billion light years away. And what about the universe? There's really nothing in the bible that explains it at all. All of the other stars and planets... were they just put there for our amusement? Do they serve a purpose? Why are we seeing other galaxies? Is there life there? If there is why isn't it written about in the bible?

But - you might say - maybe God just created the light in transit to make it look like there were stars out there older than 12,000 years to fool all those scientists with no faith. Well - besides the conclusion that God must hate smart people - if God did something to mislead people - if God created light to fake the age of stars - doesn't that make God a liar? Are you calling God a liar?

One of my favorite children's fairy tales is Noah's Ark. It's so ridiculous that most Christians don't even comment on it. Well that and the guy that got swallowed by a whale (or was that Pinocchio... same difference).

The Highest mountains are 27,000 feet - if it rained for 40 days and 40 nights - that's approximately 25-28 feet of rain an hour. That's one hell of a rain! And two of every species on a big wooden boat? All because God lost his temper and had to destroy the Earth. You would have thought he would have seen that coming. God really has a temper problem and could use some violence counseling. He really needs to control his anger better. But it's not the first time he's destroyed something... or asked for it to be destroyed. In fact the Bible is FULL of violence.. and a lot of it against women.

But let's put that 'rain' in perspective: Here's an article from 2006... remember the big rain in Hawaii... where it literally rained for 40 days (although not continuously)...

Hawaii residents awoke to sun this weekend after more than 40 days of downpours that left a wake of havoc across the islands and broke records for rain at the wettest place on Earth.

Nearly 92 inches — or about 7 1/2 feet — of rain were recorded during March at Mount Waialeale, considered the rainiest spot on the planet. The previous record was about 90 inches in April 1971, according to the National Weather Service.

Even the normally dry Honolulu Airport received more rain in the first three months of 2006 than in all of 2005.

The near biblical downfall left the islands disheveled with debris, flooded homes, and led to a sewage spill in the water off Waikiki.

Biblical downfall? No, as we've demonstrated.. biblical would be around 28 feet per HOUR.... not 7 feet for a month... but hey, 7 feet in one month is a LOT of rain.

Nice.

You can't even comprehend something as simple as the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and how to get saved. So, how should anybody expect somebody, as lost as yourself, to be able to comprehend anything else in the Bible?

The B-I-B-L-E, yes, that's the book for me. I stand alone on the Word of God, the B-I-B-L-E!

Anyone remember singing that song in Sunday School?

Yeah, more pictures. Yay. But, it was nice of him to start another religious thread, even after being told not to.

Well I've decided that I'm NOT going to be told not to do something.. when others are allowed to do it.

If someone wants to ban me for talking about something that others are allowed to talk about... then go ahead... and see where that gets you.

Last I checked this is a free country.. and this isn't a pay site.

If others are allowed to share their views... that some may not want to hear... then I would like to see the 'owners' of the site say that others are not allowed to counter that opinion... and go ahead and ban me.

See this isn't like ESPN or another site where someone is getting banned for lewd behavior.. or bad words or whatever..

it's a site where people get banned for sharing their opinion... or an opinion that's opposite of what someone else is sharing.

Not only is that a scary thing.. I would imagine if someone really wanted to make a big deal out of it.. they could.

Either EVERYBODY is stopped from discussing an issue.. or nobody is stopped from it.

See, that's fair.

To me, nobody should be stopped.. but that's my opinion.

Let's see what the 'owners' of the site have to say.

That sounds like you're challenging the Mods to me. If the owner of this site can't control you, then who can?

Dude its not a text book, or the "complete history of geology", or the history of the human species.

I don't think the 6 day creation story is a literal 6 days, and there are tons of other stories that are mere analogies, examples or what not, not necessarily historical fact. That's not the purpose of the bible to explain everything to you like a text book.

Its meant to be a road map on how to keep sorry ass worthless humans from going to hell. You don't have to use it if you don't want to.

I'm all for you being able to express your opinion. And by means do so. I would merely advise you to merely consider the possibility that MAYBE a supreme being that created everything we know of in our universe, decided that humans should have a chance to have an afterlife and that our mere 70-90 years on the planet isn't "it" for us. What's your alternative? Eternal nothingness? Is that a good or pleasant result for all of this? I don't think so.

Last I checked or was told... nobody controls anybody 'cept God.

And even then he gives you free will.

Never, not ever, once have I said I didn't believe.

Some of you just miss the point in all these 'talks'.

Not saying you do Aztec.. we've had some good talks behind the scenes.

Just in general.

Anyway, was just making a point.

Now I'm done. Don't feel like arguing over this anymore.....

However, let's also not pretend like I started it. I went over some posts that were made LONG before I ever came on this site.. and it seems that it's a long ongoing discussion.

However, for my side of the arguement.. I'm done.

I hope, in the end, that everyone tries to be the best person they can be despite or on top of their beliefs.

I just know some here don't... and people like that get under my skin.

To the rest of you.. peace.
