all I can say is
BRING IT ON.
One week to go.
There are 'tastes' of the new album on his
www.guysebastian.com.au
playing in windows media player for me, I do play it under Standard Player tho.
Guy's voice is luscious, and rich and the SOUND is lush and full bodied.
The tracks are irritatingly great... just get into it all with a big smile and it runs out.

Ahhhh can't wait for this album!!! Those who heard it last week are just over the moon. No wonder 4,000 were lined up to get their pre-vouchers signed last weekend.
And now we've heard that Taller Stronger Better is #1, #2 and #4 on 4 radio stations in Indonesia, and the top single on another.
and thanks to Guy admitting he is a Christian (we have some strange 'yobbo' types over here), there is a great deal of resistance to radio play and yet
THANKS SHADOW of the OF
I just found a independant record store who I know had only ONE copy of tsb ordered in their store
in the first week ( I actually know of a couple who only had one copy...some faith)
I just read their site and it was the 4th best selling single on their stores own sales charts
w/e 17/10 (and they are mainly real triplej alternative sellers)
so i guess they had to reorder yay!
If the song had been sung by someone like Pete Murray, Keith Urban or someone more 'acceptable' to those types of radio - it would have no problems getting airing - but because it is Guy, the 'nice person', the man who states things as they are, who isn't aggressive, doesn't get drunk or trash rooms - radio play has been like drawing a tooth.
But its getting there
(to be in the top 10 for 5 weeks and topping Australian charts, without a ton of radio play - is just an incredible feat)

Taste tests of the album.
He's got one of the greatest voices in Australia and on his eagerly-awaited third studio album, 'Closer To The Sun', Guy Sebastian delivers on all the promise that saw his first two album jet pass the half million mark and so much more!
Guy worked for the past 18 months with a bevy of incredible local international producers and writers, including Anders Bagge (Destiny's Child, Pink), David Ryan Harris, Gary Pinto, Phil Turcio and Carl Dimataga and says a lot of ideas for 'Closer To The Sun' came from jamming around the piano with friends. Hence, the album also features 11 tracks co-written by Guy himself and, down to the note, sounds exactly as he wanted it to. He couldn't be prouder.
"I'm really happy with everything about this record," says Guy. "I'm really happy with how my voice is sounding. I've been involved with everything, right down to the artwork. I know exactly what I want now. I feel a real ownership of this record."
An exhilarating 13-track pop-rock-soul-funk ride littered with influences by everyone from Lenny Kravitz to Marvin Gaye, there's something here for everyone.
Ripe with knockout tracks, the album runs the gamut from the ARIA #3 smash 'Taller, Stronger, Better' to the new pop-rock single 'Elevator Love' to the unbelievable old school soul ballad 'Can't Stop A River' (written by Seal), back to the shimmery uplifting title-track and on to the rasta-hop of 'I'm Gon Getcha'... and that's just for starts!
Confident in his skin and more passionate and self-assured than we've heard him yet, this is album is 110% Guy Sebastian - and you just don't get much better than that.

We fans are getting so spoilt. It's Guy's birthday today, and he shoots the video for Elevator Love tomorrow with ex-Miss Universe Jen Hawkins. That's a pretty good birthday present!

the new album
CLOSER TO THE SUN?
In a word (two)
THE VOICE!!!
Really. DOn't go by the little snippets on the system. They're not doing justice, really.
At the moment my absolute OMG favourite is Closer to the Sun - no wonder they named the album after it. Talk about The Beatles mixed with Kravitz and a dusting of David Bowie - but its all Guy. The whole album is Guy. There are 2 covers, Unbreakable is the other one (Seal's .... River one is the other).
My other half just said 'exquisite' - as he's not known for that type comment I'm a bit amazed. I find that description a little too 'sweet' - the ballads might be in that but the funky dance shaggy types? The Buble type? the rocky types? The 'just blow me away ' types?
Guy has raised the bar again on this his third album - by 150%

I've tried to listen this particular time as dispassionately as I could.
There is no way this album should get any bad rap at all. Its brilliantly crafted, there is a song or two at the very least for almost anyone, THE VOICE is rich, beautifully toned and carries each song to perfection.
As an album featuring a singer, one couldn't ask for more - but MORE is what you get, because the artist in question takes each song and makes it so subtly his own. That, to me, is the only query. It will be a long, long time before anyone can sing these songs and in anyway do them justice.
The album is a beautiful large pearl, glowing with the artist's own pleasure in what he is doing and the exquisite craftmanship with which he's carried it out.
That's CLOSER TO THE SUN by Guy Sebastian for me.
--------------------------
Anyone giving it an understated rap is really just saying his/her personal thoughts on the music - genre. I have always believed a critic to be above that.

I'm in heaven. The album is fantastic.
I mean REALLY fantastic. There are so many singles he could release, Sony must be ecstatic. They certainly won't have to release the singles with posters, or dvds, or as specials with albums (although TSB could be a could one for that, because its got "Do Life" on there - I still love that song)
My fave is still Closer to the Sun. I love it. Absolutely.
but there's so many that just blow me away or I can love the fun of them, like I Gon Getcha. Or Boyfriend.
I'll go give you two little downloads, but they're just small stuff. I gotta go back to the album - and HE'S EVERYWHERE!!! Hosting, TV, interviews, signings, its like Guy is just everywhere.

Mt. Druitt - St. Marys Standard
Hoards of fans get close to their Idol - Page 1
Wednesday, November 1, 2006
Laura Cencigh
entertainment reporter
THE soulful sound of Guy Sebastian floated through Mt. Druitt Westfield on Saturday.
But the screams of his fans were much louder.
More than 2000 fans filled centre court for their chance to get up close & personal with the first Australian Idol winner.
The appearance marked the release of Sebastian's third album Closer to the Sun
He delighted the crowd with songs from the album including the first single Taller, Stronger, Better.
Dressed simple but without his trademark 'fro', Sebastian's new look was clearly a hit with the hoards of female fans in the crowd.
He happily signed copies of his new album while fans declared their love & stole the occasional kiss.
Police, security guards, & centre management were out in force but the event was without incident.
A spokeswoman for Westfield Mt. Druitt said it was one of the largest turn-outs for a live performance that she had seen.
"There were a lot of teenage girls, but i was surprised to see quite a few older women & families getting into it too".

Ashura's review - I agree with all - except Boyfriend! It's quaint and fun, and will probably get a single release as well. Its apparently a love/hate one amongst fans LOL.
“Closer to the Sun”
I don’t know you gals & guys have noticed this or not…Guy has taken his surname off the album cover!
1.Elevator love – Catchy lyrics with great beats and rock guitar churn; get ready to bang your head in the air to follow its irresistible rhythm (if you have watched the video clip you will know what I’m talking about here ). After I 4 U, Oh Oh, Guy collaboration with Jarrad Rogers continue to rocks da house once again. Is Rogers one of the Guy’s guitarists on ‘Beautiful life’ tour?
My favourite bits: We come back just to throw it all away/ Tell me it’s over/ So we can do it all again/ I’m addicted to this elevator love yayeaahhhhh >>
<<2.Out of Place – Ha! Another up-tempo song accompanies the pounding basslines; it’s amazing how his rich, sweet voice can ventures into this style with such ease. It’s one of my favourite tracks on the album, cos I absolutely adore the lyrics and which I can relate to. tongue.gif Not to mention, the soaring notes, sigh …
My favourite bits: The grass is baby blue/ the sky is army green/ everything is out of place/ my inside out is so upside down/ whenever you ‘re not around/ everything is crazy baby <<
3. Can’t stop a River – Exquisite, powerful, deep and smooth; this ballad gives him the latitude to sing his heart out in the chorus. This is a track which really shows off his range and his voice does not fall short at all. Guy’s voice is still amazing as ever.
My favourite bits: I *won’t* blame* you* this* time / can’t stop my heart from loving youuuuuuhhh
4. Trade this Love – x3 addictive funk tunes, melodic intensity with the deeply loveable lyrics, easy to sing and groove along, the note at the end kinda remind me of ‘hit the road jack’.
My favourite bits: all she wants is my time/ not my money but my mind/ see this loves never old/ cos she’s living in my soul/ and keep it burning in my veins yeah
5. Closer to the Sun – I called it my Venus ballad. The only track co-produced by Guy and I amazed, simple melody, very relaxing and beautifully composed. What a welcome surprise, not a usual Guy R&B territory, love the chorus, your mind and soul would just conjured up in this outer space, wherever that is, may be *grooveland* in the middle of city traffic might not sounds bad after all. I’m not making any sense here ..hubby and my no.1 favourite track
My favourite bits: leave behind everything you think matters/ welcome aboard get comfortable/ your maiden journey’s just begun/ we can rent a little house on Venus/ and get close to the sun
*** If one day Guy eventually became his own producer/ for other artists, I won’t be so surprise. Great effort, Guy!
6. Cover on My Heart – this is the most heartfelt ballad he has ever sung, talks about the agony of hush-hush love. Yes, Guy can definitely sing sorrowful ballads like no other remember that ‘Make heaven wait’ and ‘Beautiful friend’, those songs still make me weep from time to time.
My favourite bits: spent all night trying to explore just/ how I’d tell you I adore ya/ feels like my point existence/ has vanished with you in the distance
7. I’m Gon Getcha – reggae adds groovalious flavour to the song with the wise use of falsetto by Guy and the highlight of featuring Machal Montano, perfect love song dedicated to boys/girls who enjoy playing hide-and-seek in their relationship.
8. Unbreakable – another stirring ballad. Guy does a nice job to convey the deepness, lyrically and musically of the song with his soothing voice. I kinda wish he could try his luck with this song in Asia if he decided to release there. This song can make a good soundtrack for the drama and movie.
My favourite bits: in the loneliness of all I see/ I’m walking round with half o heart/ I can’t let go of the past/ when every breath just pulls me back/ for one last moment/ I wish my heart was unbreakable
9. Taller, Stronger, Better – piano and the orchestra accompaniment build a very emotion instrumental composition with his soaring voice. It’s heart-rending and powerful, his inimitably rich, velvet voices shine with spanking glory in this principal heartfelt ballad. *** Popular file-sharing track on some forums.
My favourite bits: I have been chosen to run with the wind/ I can go higher/ I know I will soar/ I broke through the rain/ stood through the storm/ now I know I’ll remain/ I can do the impossible/ I can reach the unreachable/and live
10. Boyfriend – tongue-in-cheek lyrics with a catchy tune, sarcastically amusing and I’m really feel sorry for the dog at the same time (I’m curious is this a true story from the boy next door..). It’s my least favourite track on the album, don’t ask me why, simply don’t click with it I guess.. fear.gif
My favourite bits: about her age about her name/ she even lied about the dog/ I’ll never get her, I shoulda known better
11. Stars Collide – alluring melody with heartfelt lyrics, kinda not expected from Guy. I want to hear more this type of song from him.
My favourite bits: the whole song happy.gif
12. Takin Me Over – this soul/rock track’s reminiscent of Prince, high notes in the chorus is to die for. Guy should consider releasing this song as his 3rd single. My favourite bits: Such a feeling baby that soul music is takin’ me over Ahahaaaahhhhhg I get a high every time I hear the beat/ Jimmy Brown, Marvin Gaye, Hathaway/ I’m on my feet
13. Be Mine - He can sell this kind of jazzy song with his full mellow vocal alone; Guy’s voice is like versatile instrument, beautiful song to end the album.
My favourite bits: Girl if you promise me / I’ll give everything I have if you will, you will be mine
Bonus track 1. Do life – Memorable melody and heartwarming lyric accompanied with a light strings, simple and beautiful well-crafted song.
My favourite bits: I wanna be down/ I wanna be down with the Angels hanging in the Heavens/no place my heart would rather be/ wanna be part of an ocean/ a river in motion/ everything this world call me to be yeah/
It's amazing how his voice can adapt so perfectly in all these styles. Versatile adds spice and I’m enjoying it! Guy mentioned about this as more Organic sounds and I’m agree, this whole album does glow with smoothness and harmony amongst tracks. Every song sounds pleasant, there’re no bad tracks on this album. That’s surprising. Seeing OFH members doing their bits and pieces for “Closer to the Sun” review, I try hard not to have a peek in there pinch.gif ; since I've decided to start mine and finish it on here. I would like to see more members on here do the album review in here happy.gif . tata~

Your cds are $20? And its expensive? WOW! That's our cheap albums! About 18 months ago, when Guy was touring the last leg of his Beautiful Life tour, one store was (for some ridiculous reason) still selling his first album at $34.95 and I doubt they got many sales for that.
So how much are your singles? Here theyre around $5 - some artists (unfortunately not Guy), when trying to get No. 1 in the Aria chart, will have them sold at $2, or free with the albums. Or stuff with them, like a dvd side, or stickers or posters or extra whatever - and so they are made to look pretty damned good because they get the 'Award'.
Other artists, like Guy, prefer that any award is a genuine acknowledgment of their fan reach and talent. Still - I wouldn't say know to a poster or two. Just learnt today from those who got it from Guy himself - two of our most treasured photos - he doesn't like! And he thinks the cover of the album is great.

Linsu - who has a Guy site, a special one - which is quieter, and more often used for asking for help
QUOTE(Linsu @ Apr 3 2007, 10:52 PM) *
Not sure if this is the right place for this story....?
I had the most amazing day today.....One of my year 6 students who is newly arrived from Italy and struggling with English today sang in front of 66 fellow students as part of his musical appreciation project.
Each student had to choose an Australian singer to write about.....and as he didn't know any....I quite innocently (cough) steered him towards Guy Sebastian as I could help him out with any info. Yesterday he came to me very upset because his teacher had decided that each student would sing their song as part of their presentation. I offered to talk to his teacher but he said he would try to sing it in English (I had given him the lyrics in Italian too. He had chosen Taller Stronger Better.....Today we had a little practice and then we went to his presentation......
He started very softly.....then he became more confident....everyone was listening ....it was SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL......hearing this song being sung by a child as if he were singing a prayer......AND in an Italian accent!!!..................Belissima!...
When he finished.......the whole class cheered and clapped.....his face went red.....he looked at me....I was crying like a baby.........lol........The assistant principal was crying too.......it was so very touching....and brave......just like the song......my little Paolo was Taller, Stronger, Better.

From the radio interview today, thanks to Janice. You CAN just hear the music in the background, but the song really sounds acapella. I don't know how much Guy could hear the music. It is supposedly an acoustic version of the new single coming.
This is a long Interview, I have converted it to mp3 and cut out the ad break in the middle so it is the smallest it can be made. Still took a while to upload so not sure how long it will take to download.

I've just been talkin to my friend, who's not a Guy fan, not that she doesn't like Guy....she's just...not like me laugh.gif and she had a pretty rough breakup with her boyfriend a few weeks ago, and we were talkin about things and she said to me,
' You kno what gets me through everyday?' She says, 'Guy's song.....Taller Stronger Better'
From sweetestberry
(and if you've never heard Guy sing THAT - its on the Oh Oh single... imagine just the two on stools, everything dark - and he flies with it - his voice just gets higher and clearer and higher - purely amazing, which is why there are screams of delight as he puts his head back and soars even more)

(and including a memo here to all aspiring artists. Last night was in conference with artist re photos - she kepton bringing on the ones which did her no justice at all!!! No life, but obviously as she feels she SHOULD be. This explains Guy's art work since Closer to the Sun! As he is choosing now and we have all been reasonably disappointed, except for the fabulous stuff from the Opera House (see my siggie) - please - get a person you REALLY trust, who REALLY knows you - let him/her choose, and then submit them to another whom you trust implicitly. Because it was a real eye opener, in more ways than one. NONE of those submitted by the artist to me, did her real justice - and those she passed by were so much more 'her', and artistically so much better. She even failed to notice that legs were foreshortened, arms were not correct, etc - obviously only seeing what she sought)
