From a blogger - part thereof
-----------------------------
I was involved in a big christian youth event (5,000) where Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian was performing. He did a great job and he is a very talented musician but watching him and knowing that his life is always under scrutiny makes me wonder whether being famous is really all that exciting.
You see, he was never left alone. He had his "people" around and he had security watching over him, while teenage girls were screaming out his name, people were lining up for autographs while others just wanted to have some of 'celebrity status' rub off on them.
I started to think about what his life might be like, whether he can make his own decisions, whether he has much time to hang out with friends, I pretty much wondered whether he really had a life at all.
I know that he is living his dream of singing but is he really happy? So is it worth being famous?
-----------------------
Apparently Guy now has a motorbike again. We know he was selling his Palm Beach house (opposite the beach) and moving to a more country area, but also closer to the airport (Palm Beach is almost the opposite side of Sydney from the airport). I suspect that's already happened, but this time - with discretion. (Last time headlines were made of his address - he had people walk into his house, put their beer in his fridge and sort of make themselves 'at home').
Guy DOES do his own thing. He actually controls his life to a huge extent. But necessarily at gigs like that, which are huge (last night was over 8,000 - closer to the 10,000 capacity) he needs major assistance.
He keeps very grounded, his testimony last night touched a lot of people.
But yeah! He sure is major cute, and that voice! There were good voices last night but when he let it rip its just astounding, every time. One tends to think, "Oh yeah, they're good too. Gee I wonder how good guy will seem when he 'sings out' and then he does it, and we are reminded once again just WHY he is such a huge and popular figure. Even on that television series, no-one REALLY saw that aspect of him. Or heard it.
