I think it's interesting to try compare the idols to other artists. You can see who some of their influences are by doing so, and it helps identify them with a genre of music. That said, what we're hoping for, and probably what the producers and record label are hoping for, however, is that these guys will make their own name only to have other people compared to them. Still, it is fun to imagine these idols doing covers of others' songs.
I think Chris could cover bands like Trapt, Staind, and Breaking Benjamin really well. He's well suited for edgy rock and has a unique voice, a critical trait for the role of a lead singer in any successful rock band.
Taylor's best suited for adult contemporary music. He'll rank right up there with the likes of John Mayer, Jamie Cullum, and Jack Johnson. He'd probably be able to cover some of their songs pretty well. He will easily estabilsh his own name as a unique performer in that genre.
I agree with you on Elliott. He'd do well with MoTown or a similar R&B label. But I really think for him to get such a signing, he'd have to WIN American Idol and put out a really good CD with Cowell's label first. Frankly, I don't think it will happen though.
Katharine is really the only one that could probably sing in just about any genre. I wouldn't choose rock for her, but then again, look at Amy Lee of Evanescence. Amy Lee is probably my favorite all-time female vocalist, so to compare Kat to her, IMO is a great compliment. That said, I think she'll fare better in the ranks of pop music, like Kelly Clarkson.

Agree on all counts... would like to add Bon Jovi, Creed, and Seether. But Definately Staind.
