Hey all--Elliot's a cool dude and hes got a great voice but something about the way that boy holds his notes--its like DAAUM---It sounds like hes riding a bike over some train tracks in a railroad yard--sorry Elliot fans, I just gotta throw that out there--those long sustained notes are killin me!

No problem... I know you're new to the forums. You'll find that most people actually keep up pretty well with all of the threads. So really, it's the equivalent of telling the same person the same joke twice. Funny the first time, annoying the second time. Not that you're annoying, just new and probably didn't realize that almost everyone reads all of the threads. When you make a post, most likely it'll be seen by all.

The first time you said the line it was humorous (which is why I complimented you on it). Now you're just a nerdy guy shouting "Hey everyone I said something amusing so now I am repeating myself".

Sorry I agree Elliot's a dweeb but it really wasn't even that funny the first time. But don't let me discourage you from trying to be funny in the future. Just make sure you are.

I was wondering if you still had that 1975 AMC Pacer X for sale?

Now that's a car, Frank!
But not everything that AMC made was dorky, however. I learned to drive in an AMC Javelin---one of the great muscle cars of the 60's.

BACK TO THE SUBJECT - Elliott does have a lot of Vibratto in his voice. It distracts me and detracts from his performances, IMO. Aggravates the bejeezus out of me.

Boy, you sure get distracted easily. If it's not paris' head-bobbing, it's Elliott's vibratto. Maybe you need some Ritalin.

No I just pay very close attention. I know my music. I know that Vibratto is supposed to come towards the end of the note, not at the beginning or middle, and also that every word of a song is not supposed to have Vibratto in it. And Paris's head-bobbing was okay, she just did it way too much.:p

And that type of vibratto is the mark of a singer that's not very good anyway. Freddie Mercury was the only singer ever that had that type of vibratto that could pull it off. Real vibratto is smoother, similar to Carrie U-Wood, Kat has a good vibratto. The jerkie vibratto is horrible and the mark of a Sh$#y singer if you ask me. That's another reason I no longer want Chris to win, he's too mediocre with a bad vibratto.

I don't know much about the "technical" aspects of singing but the vocal coach at my son's school did say that "vibratto" is a learned technique often used to make a weak voice stronger.
All I know is that is sounds as annoying as hell, which in Elliot's case matches the way he looks, dresses and acts. (Heh. Heh. And people think women can be petty!)

My opinion of singing is that you are either pretty much born with it or you don't have it. Coaching can help, but a good natural vibratto and a good "pleasing" sounding voice is all God given, naturally born stuff, that you can't really teach. I mean if it was really something you could teach you could go to a good coach and say, hey teach me to sing like Luciano Pavoratti. Not that I am dogging you for taking your son to a vocals coach, but there is only so much that can be done. Chris and Elliot will never have that "good" natural vibratto, no matter how many coaches they go to.

Unfortunately, there is no one in my family that can sing and all the training in the world wouldn't make a difference. My son is on the swim team (obligatory dad brag: made varsity as a freshman). The vocal coach where my son goes to school also has a son on the swim team and we were sitting next to each other at the last meet discussing American Idol.
He said Katherine and Paris have the most natural voices, he doesn't care for Elliot and while he likes Chris he thinks Chris could benefit most from some professional training. He said the man needs to learn how to protect is vocal chords (whatever that means) or he's going to wake up one day sounding like Marlon Brando in the GodFather.

Yeah that's the whole not singing from your diaphragm thing. That's why he couldn't do a 2 minute song 5 times in one day. If you sing from your throat you blow your voice out real quick, its all about breathing and pushing it out with your lungs, kinda hard to explain. I'm not a singer, I just know how to sing correctly.

Remember how, last week, Andrea Bocelli had Chris lay on the floor to sing? It forced him to sing from his diaphragm. That means, use your lungs to expel air to form notes, not straining your throat to regulate what note comes out.

Finally someone who wants to stay on subject instead of give me crap about posting more than once---my objective wasnt to be the forum comedian--it was to make a point--but certainly accept all the "constructive criticism" you all know how to win friends and make a guy feel good---THANKS A BUNCH---
but as music lover said---BACK TO THE SUBJECT---Elliot could benefit from some voice lessons--no one says he sucks--its just that he cant sustain a note with out sounding like hes running a jack hammer.

The time A.I. went back to his home town they interviewed his band. What is up with that? I believe that I read a news story that when Taylor was a child, he brutally bludgeoned them to death as they slept. He was institutionalized until he was eighteen then released. If you watch carefully you will be able to see the severe ticks that were created while he was undergoing drug treatment.
