.... that tonight's performances, for the most part, were very strange?

1. Elliott's vibratto took my attention off his songs. First, he sang about being on Broadway, then he sang about going home.

2. Paris just annoyed me. The background singers did most of the singing.

3. Chris did well, just screamed his voice out.

4. Katharine's first song was boring. During her second song, the barefoot, didn't-get-off-the-knees song didn't even make any sense...

5. Taylor is one funky white boy, alright. His second song impressed me.

All in all, there were good songs and bad songs, but I was just left with a "What the heck just happened here?" feeling.

Any thoughts?

PS - I did, although, think it was a cool touch that when you voted for the contestant, they had recorded their own "thanks" memos.

How did you know it was a recording? Did you attempt to converse with them?

I'm just saying that it would have been an absolute hoot if you were talking to a live contestant and just ASSUMED it was a recording.

Have you never picked up the phone and pretended to be a recording?????

Only on my voicemail, and it was years ago. It's kinda old by now.

This INSTANTLY brought an example to mind, which is probably the best example ever, from a Seinfeld episode when Kramer tries to be the 'moviephone' recording!...'Why dont you just TELL me what movie you want to see'... HAHAHAHA .... Classic

Who wants the AI5 Title?................By the performances tonight the answer is NOBODY. Randy and Simon both agreed multiple times it was a strange, quirky, squirrely "Performance Night from Hell".

I couldn't agree more!
Please, Please, Please. Let me fuel the fire a little.

Elliot..................Really starting to annoy me. Let me clarify, his voice is starting to annoy me. Elliot's voice is unique, but at the same time contains him into a vocal box. Elliot could never be a star in a million years. He dosen't possess "it", and to further vote for him seems to be a waste.

Paris.................for 16 years old, she is doing better than all the rest. A 16 year old Paris would blow away a 16 year old Chris, Taylor, Katharine even a 16 year old Elliot. But I don't believe she actually could pull off the title as AI5. The upside is 10 years from now, after a bit more professional help/training, when Paris is 26 years old, I predict Paris will bloom into a vocal force.

Chris..................I realize the majority of demographics/voters place Chris as the leader at this point. While they are sold, I still am not. Chris's version of STYX's Renegade was horrific. What a butcher job. Yea, yea yea, I realize the judges leaned in favor of his performance. But for those of us who have heard the song many many times before, and in person by the original band it was painful to listen to. It simply sucked. The screaming, hyper loud vocals were popular in the 90's. I think its time to move on.

Katherine.............What in the hell was she doing singing from her knee's. Katherine seems to possess the vocal weapon of mass destruction to absolutely blow everyone out of the competition, but it is clear she does not have the expierence performing on stage as if it meant something.
Ahhhhhh "Earth to Katherine........ Get your act together or get your a_ _ off stage". Stop acting like the one of the Olson twins and start acting more like Kelly Clarkson. Attach an edge to your performance and unleash your voice!!!

Taylor...................Where do I start. As most of you know, I've grown to loathe the Hicks impersonations/performances (see previous posts). He has been likened to a drunk dad singing at a backyard pool party, a so so karoke impersonator, a con, a fake, etc, etc. Tonight Taylor once again failed to dissapoint by selecting a slow, easy vocal from 30 years ago rather than following the parameters of this week by selecting a song from one of todays artist, deliberately staying far away from a genre that will expose his voice and limitations of his range. Oh, hey Hicks.........."please give up the geriatrics style dancing. It simply sucks and I am fearful you will stereotype the rest of us as a bunch of half-a_ _ dancers".

Summary;
The contestants really lacked the focus tonight. Maybe it was partially do to the fact no special guest worked with them this week. Or did the producers want to shake up the rhythm? Either way one will go home, and the sooner the better.

As far as Rock performances, give me BO BICE over Chris or Taylor any day of the week. BO BICE is twice the singer, twice the performer as Chris or Taylor could ever dream to be. BO is real. More importantly BO is watchable. It makes no sense to vote in a Chris or Taylor when in fact BO set the "Rocker" bechmark.

Remember the Beatles tune she was asking about. Actually I think it was George Harrison solo, but maybe not. WOW I thought my short term memory was shot.

Aztec, aren't you a musician?

"Something" which Frank Sinatra once referred to as the greatest love song ever written was NOT a George Harrison solo (although it was written by him). It was the first cut on side two of the Beatles Abbey Road LP released in 1969.

You are both right - it's the Beatles song recorded (currently) by George Harrison.

That's why I said I wasn't sure, but I was born in 68, so my Beatles knowledge is far from comprehensive. Revolver was the only album that I have ever owned, although I like the Beagles, never been such a huge fan that I memorized all of their stuff.

It's either that OR Taylor understood he could sing any song from any billboard chart. Whatever - it's done - he did a great job with it, and that's that (IMO).

Yeah, Snoopy's always kinda been one my favorites too. But I didn't know he could sing.

No my parents are the type that believed the anti-christ was just around the corner when the beatles appeared on the scene. They are from the earlier generation that thought long-hair, sex, drugs and rock n' roll was a bad thing.

My dad was a die hard Beatles and Stones fan. He had all their stuff on vinyl. I wore all his albums out when I was a kid because I used to play 'em all the time. While everyone else was into Disco, I was listening to the Beatles. So, I know just about everything there is to know about those four lads from Liverpool.

Maybe you should be the one to clear up the confusion then, did George Harrison just recently re-record the song or something, False says it was a song on Abbey Road, but someone else said that its also a solo thing that he recently re-did or something, don't know. I mean I know the song, but....ah never mind.

George Harrison has been dead for about 3 or 4 years now. Something is form the Album Abbey Road. Abbey Road is such a great album that people are still buying it. It's a classic. That's why it's still on the charts. Kinda like Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon".

Like many of the former Beatles (living and dead) they often performed material they recorded as a group when they performed solo. Harrison and Lennon RARELY performed songs written by Paul McCartney (even though all the stuff McCartney and Lennon did as Beatles they took shared credit for) but McCartney will often sing stuff in concert that John wrote---although not very much.

Harrison actually gave the song "SOMETHING" to his friend Joe Cocker but fortunately for the Beatles his version came out after theirs.

Yeah its hard for me to envision Joe Cocker doing that song, although I am assuming its similar to Taylor's since they have similar dance moves (just kidding)

While Abbey Road had some great numbers, ("Come Together" "Something" and "Here Comes the Sun" are three that come to mind) it was mostly a collection of throwaway pieces the group couldn't fit on the "White Album" "Yellow Submarine" and "Let it Be" releases all four of which were recorded in the space of about a year (an amazing amount of material if you think about it). Yet, despite the supposed lack of effort the Beatles put into the Abby Road recordings it still became a classic.

Perhaps the most memorable thing about the album was the cover, probably one of most reproduced and parodied album covers in all of pop history.
