Elliot, both songs about the same, 2nd one better maybe, Paris, good if you like the songs she sang, I did not. --- Come on Taylor, sing some more songs like the last.

based on what I just saw, Elliot is out-a-here! I'm not a big Taylor fan, but I thought he performed pretty well tonight. Kat totally blew the first song, but redeemed herself. I personally like the way Julia Roberts did the Prince song in Pretty Woman, but Paris' rendition was not bad.
It would suck to be on the west coast and not know what we're talking about.

Wasn't he just fantastic? Tonight Taylor chose one song to entertain and the other just had a calming effect. Somehow Simon really doesn't care about dancing, but he had to admit that Taylor can really sing despite those who think otherwise. GREAT JOB TAYLOR. I NEVER STOPPED BELIEVING IN YOU!!!

Have to vote with Bobby on this one. Referencing the unfortunate portrayal of southern Black dialect as was often depicted for "humor" in ancient media is inappropriate and shows a lack of concern for the feelings of others and should be an affront to all enlightened members of humankind.

Puhleaze. Since when do AA's own the phrase, "Oh Lawdy, what is we going to do?" simply because it happens to a line of dialog from what is arguably one of the greatest all-time works of American cinema?
It is this level of extreme political correctness and over zealousness that has served to drive people farther apart in this country under the cloak of homogenization. It does not make one a bigot simply because we poke mild fun at one another or even if we recognize that different ethnic groups often exhibit different strengths, i.e. Asians seem to be smart, Hispanics seem to be devoted to their families, and the French like to surrender.
But it is nice of you to register just so your first post could be a lecture on political correctness.

Taylor - was [I]my[I] best tonight! He was his crazy self for his first song and mellowed out for the second. Like I've always said - he can sing anything! He is an original. Chris' songs were 'alright' but I just can't stand the hollering. It seems all songs he sings sound alike. I know he has a lot of fans out there, so let's hope he got the votes. [B]Katharine - I like the way she did her own thing with 'Against All Odds', but enjoyed her 'Black Horse in a Cherry Tree' performance better. She was her 'wild' self. [B][B]Paris - I don't like Prince, so I didn't enjoy 'Kiss' and believe it or not, I didn't know the second song. [B]Elliott did great (my opinion), but I didn't vote for him. At this stage of the competition only one will get my vote - AND THAT'S TAYLOR!!!!

...but I don't think "slave speak" is funny. I don't think someone should be ridiculed for speaking up when something is offensive to them.
But I will always stick up for someone I believe in.........GO ELLIOTT!

Were you offended last night when Taylor chose to sing "Play that Funky Music White Boy"? The obvious racist inference, is that white people have no "soul".
See how ridiculous it is to get bent out of shape over nothing? Besides when you way overstate your point with a grandiose comment such as "it should be an affront to all enlightened members of humankind" you should expect some eye rolling.

I wasn't offended by Taylors song choice but I have to be honest, I have never felt completely comfortable with "PTFMWB" even as a kid but thats just a gut reaction...can't help it.
I stand by the "grandiose comment". And as a gay atheist living in Indiana who thinks Elliott should win AI5 "eye rolling" is pretty much standard fare reaction to me when I speak out for what I believe in.

For entertaining us, I'll give it to Taylor, but as far actual talent, no he sucks. He's good for little shows out there like at bars or weddings, not to actually become a star. What do people see in him? I wish people would actually praise people who don't have to act like fools on stage to win a competition. I like Taylor, but he doesn't have what it takes to win, the only one that does have what it takes to win is Chris.

As a white man, I was soooooo offended by the use of the term "funky white boy" how DARE you use the term white to describe my race. That is just racist!! And to add funky to boot. Anyone that uses such terms puts a plight on the struggle that my race has had to endure over these centuries. I mean 4000 years ago my ancestors were slaves to the Egyptians. Man that really bums me the %$#@ out!!! I mean we are forced everyday to actually work and make a living. @#$% what a rough life. And for some reason it is extra hard for me to live in this society just KNOWING that there are people out there that are racists against white people. How do I over come these great difficulties? It is tough, but somehow I manage to get through it. I do love the fact however, that I am able to blame all my failures in life on racism, if I get fired, its because of racism. If I get evicted because I didn't make my mortgage payments, its because of racism. If someone puts a booger on my taco at taco bell its racism. (well this one maybe) Is it just me or is there anyone else out there besides me that sees racism everywhere we go?

From what I understand about today's society, its ok to make racists comments if you are a part of that race, so the first question I would ask you is are you and your gardners among the same race. If not. Some people I'm sure will accuse of you being racists. But personally I thought it was funny as %$#@ so that probably makes me a racist for thinking its funny.

Well, both Jose's and me are part of the human race so I guess its okay.
Now don't get me started on the way Oriental people drive. Of course the fact that most of them can't see over the steering wheel might have something to do with it....
Politically incorrect joke of the day. How can you tell if your home has been robbed by an Oriental?
Your television is missing and your homework is done.

What's ironic about having an opinion? Can only straight white men have opinions? Maybe there is something to learn about ourselves when others view our remarks as intolerant and we see nothing wrong with them. Just something to think about...

with all this talk off offence over the phrase 'funky white boy' it amazes me that nobody batted an eye lid when Paula called Elliott this after his performance of 'I don't wanna' 3 weeks ago..... How come it seems now to be a big deal because Taylor is involved?
I think the actual title of the song is just 'play that funky music' the 'white boy' part is only used in the chorus and doesn't form part of the title of the song.

I have personally been totally unable to function lately because of all of this racism. I don't know what I"m going to do, I can't stop getting offended, is it me or just our racists world? I've also heard among racism, there also exists in our society war, crime, death, disease, illnesses, bad accidents, nuclear prolifiration, terrorism. I don't think I"m ever going to leave my house again. Besides I have everything I need here, ocean view, large pool with waterfall, large marble house with a lot of stuff, couple a' hot girlfriends that can do my shopping for me, why leave.
