you're not watching American Idol? I'd love to hear what other things interest the other members.
There are a couple of other TV shows I watch: Prison Break, Survivor, and Boston Legal. My wife and I always Tivo Derek Acorah's "Ghost Towns" and "Most Haunted" so we can watch them when it's dark outside, then we turn the lights off, route the sound through our stereo, then curl up on the couch for a good scare. I also like "House, CSI, Deal or No Deal, and Lost, but I can rarely find the time to fit them in.
Some of the other things I do:
- Play softball on my employer's team and in my city league.
- DIY projects around the house. Currently installing a 900 square foot patio and some rain gutters. I've also done a ton of painting, some drywall patchwork, and repaired my sprinkler system. Future projects include pouring an RV driveway (with a built-on basketball court), installing a RV access side-gate, laying new sod in the back yard, and building a tool shed.
- Play with my dogs.
So what do you do when...

I also watch "House" and "CSI." I'm also a stickler for "Law & Order:SVU." I like reading mystery novels (think Jeffery Deaver, Stephen King, Mary Higgens Clark, Dean Koontz), singing (my family and church wants me to actually try out for AI next year!), and doing volunteer work at the county Community Medical Center (Where low-income/poverty level families can come get free medical care and medicine).
On DirecTv, I like watching "Mythbusters," "Ghost Hunters," "The Deadliest Catch," etc.
That's what I do when.... :)

When not watching AI:
I spend as much time with my family as possible. Husband of 27 years, a son 20, daughter 18 and son 15. I used to be on the executive track and was not home a lot--A traumatic car wreck in Nov. 2004 ended that and that is how I found AI. One of my room mates was an Idol fan and I watched with her. Spent 5 months in hospitals and rehab hospitals relearning to walk, etc. Lots of nurses, doctors, patients are AI fans so there was lots to debate about.
Now, I find my lifestyle is much slower, and I love it. It's taken a while to admit to myself, but the wreck was a great blessing in disguise.
Now I am home and, like you, AE, I watch Boston Legal and I have my own projects around the house.
Can't limb a ladder, but am painting (cutting in and lower parts of walls). Have a flower garden - can't weed it much, but have found that some "weeds" I used to pull, if left alone, flower and are very pretty
and read lots of books.
My 15 year old son and I play chess (he is brutal...so it is sweet when I win)
I volunteer at Shepherd Center in Atlanta (a specialized hospital for traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries) I lived there for 3 months and was outpatient for another 7 months. Lots of AI fans there. In fact, Ryan Seacrest hosted a Shepherd Fundraising Auction last year. Meeting others, who have had their metal tested like I was, reminds me to be more thankful, to forgive the other person's grump easier, and to love life (even if things come up that really suck). I also really enjoy reading the posts on this forum--There are some seriously disturbed, funny, and weird posts...but enough about Frank! :D
Am writing a book about the courageous people I have met and am meeting through Shepherd and the lessons I continue to learn about healing and God.
Sorry for the novella AE, but you asked...

Idolsmidol, that is truly inspirational. I, too, have been taken out of work. Mine was a worker's comp accident on 4/9/04. I've been through two year's worth of surgeries and physical therapy, as well as a battle mentally and spiritually. My accident, too, was a blessing in disquise. I have not been able to work (for pay), but it opened up new doors to education (I'm now in medicine, but can't practice until my case is closed), I'm able to use my skills to volunteer at the community medical center helping poverty level families receive good healthcare and free medications, I've been able to become really close to my husband of almost a year (our one-year anniversary is June 18th), and I have been able to focus on the most important things in life (my family, friends, and God).
It's strange how thigs work out in this life sometimes. When I got hurt, I was so emotionally distraught. I was thinking about how I was going to be able to financially help support our marriage (the new house, bills, furniture, everything really - my husband and I are both in our early 20's so we came into the marriage with practically nothing) and how I was going to be a good wife to my husband given the restrictions I now have physically.
Fortunately, I found out that the company I had been working for had fired me illegally (due to my injury there). I contacted an attorney, whom I later found out is one of the best Worker's Comp lawyer in the state of SC. He got me backpay from the date of my firing, got me sent to a good orthopaedic surgeon, I found out what was wrong (after a year of misdiagnosis), I've had two major surgeries and tons of physical/occupational therapy, and we're getting close to a settlement (which is going to be more than enough to cover my lost pay these last two years and then some). So, I thank God.
To quote garth Brooks, "Some of God's greatest skills are unanswered prayers." In the beginning, I prayed for God to please take the injury away, to make all the pain go away, but He didn't. Now I'm glad He didn't. I wouldn't be such a compassionate, loving, and spiritual person if I hadn't been going through all these "trials" (as I like to put it :)) What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and I'm a living testament to that. God bless.

Glad to see there are actually real people on the other side of my computer screen. Those are great mini-auto-bios!
BTW Ash, not to word-smack you, but it's "God's greatest gifts..." :)

I like to hang around schoolyards handing out chocolate bars---no wait, since rehab I don't do that anymore. :D
There are only a few shows I watch with any regularity and thanks to TIVO I rarely watch anything live anymore. My favorite show is "House" mainly because I identify so much with the character Hugh Laurie playes. I also enjoy "Boston Legal" and the "Sopranos" and miss "Six Feet Under" which just completed a 5 year run on HBO. I love NFL Football and have Sunday ticket which allows me to follow my beloved Green Bay Packers.
For fun I play in a couple of men's basketball league's twice a week but since tearing up my knee I most likely won't be playing again until the fall--or later. On the days I don't play b-ball I try to hit the gym for an hour.
I have been told I am an excellent cook and I do love to experiment in the kitchen. I have three children (24, 20, 15) and a grandaughter (3).
When I am not screwing around----which is way too much I run a financial services firm.
There it is, my life in five short paragraphs. :)

MusicLover,
First--I am thrilled to find someone that has decided to be better and not bitter when the really bad stuff happens--you are amazing. Second, it sounds like you have a good man. I can't tell you of the spouses I have seen that leave when they realize their husband/wife is going to need years of surgeries, rehab to become whole again or will never walk.
Life is so short--Like you I also believe this experience has made me a better person and I am spiritually light years ahead of who I was. The big difference is you are so much younger to have gained this insight (spiritual eyes), and I have no doubt in my heart that you will make a full and complete recovery and be a great blessing to everyone that comes in your path.
Also, Garth had it close--there are no "unanswered prayers", sometimes God is just saying no. Talking with you has made my day!

probably one of my favorite shows on TV. Did you see last nights???? The acting was very good on the Dr. that was sick. foreman????

Yeah, Foreman can be an a$$. Do you thik he really meant his apology to Cameron, or was he just desparate? And do you think he heard her say "I forgive you" before he went into the coma? They never say that stuff!!! Maybe we'll find out next week...
Yeah, he did great playing sick and blind. His eyes were all red (that looked painful) and the "blood" on his lips looked so real. It was awesome. I wanted to cry. Almost did. LOL!

Nice to meet you, Diane. My prayer last night went something like this "...and, Lord, please be with that really nice lady from IdolMe, You know the one I'm talking about...." LOL!!!:D
I have an aunt Diane, but she's been missing for about 9 years now. Haven't see or heard from her since... But that's another issue:)

No one on this forum knows me except as the girl who loves Chris...but I'm actually a newlywed and we tivo many, many shows including house, grey's anatomy, law & order SVU & CI, survivor, apprentice, boston legal, desperate housewives, wife swap. I work nights at the hospital in the newborn intensive care unit so it's nice to be able to watch these shows at night when i'm off instead of infomercials. We also just bought a speed boat and cannot wait to take it out! I also read mystery novels including Koontz, Patterson, and Gerritsen. This weekend I get to see Kenny Chesney, Sugarland, and Dierks Bentley from the 10th row!!!!!!!!

I know! I cannot wait! I love all three performers, but of course mostly Kenny. My 12 year old freckled other half is going to come out for the concert because I am wearing a shirt that says "Come a Little Closer Kenny" on the front and then on the back it says "I'll strip you down." My husband said he's not going to claim me!! hahaha

Alright! Now I can say and do whatever I want!! JK! So does your hubby like a Christmas b-day or does he hate it like me? I think it's terrible! I see you are also in the medical field like me...what do you do if I may ask? I also see you are a cat fan. This is one place we differ. I myself love dogs and have two...a long-haired chihuahua named Scrappy and a boxer named Tyson. We also differ in that you can sing, and I only pretend I can at karioki (sp) nights. :)

My hubby HATES having a Christmas birthday... he always gets one gift for both occasions. I'm a cert. Medical Assistant, in school for my BSN. I do love cats, I have two fluffy grey-and-black tabby cats (Bella and Laiah), but we are just waiting until we save up the cash for a privacy fence for the back yard to get a puppy. Probably a German Shephard or a MinPin (Mini Dob. Pinscher (sp?)) And I love karaoke nights!!! I love singing "Strawberry Wine"!!

Let him know I feel his pain...one gift a year, always wrapped in Christmas paper. No b-day parties on your actual b-day. A b-day cake with Santa on it. It blows. We will do everything in our power to not have a baby in December...even if it means abstinence for a month. LOL!
