Just Kidding!

So Difficult! Probably Sting, George Michael, David Gahan from DM, and I have always had a soft spot for Bing Crosby.

Oh, and Michael Crawford, from the original "Phantom" cast, and Pavorotti.

Since Aztec widened the playing field to include chicks, my all time favorite female singer is Joni Mitchell, the visual imagery, the melodies and the guitar and piano riffs in her music are unbelievable.

The album "Court and Spark" is one of the classic folk/rock albums of all time, although my personal favorite is 1976's acoustical materpiece "Hejira".

Honestly tell me one singer, rock or folk who is writing lyrics with anywhere NEAR this kind of depth these days:

[B]I'm Don Juan's reckless daughter
I came out two days on your tail
Those two bald-headed days in November
Before the first snowflakes sail
Out on the vast and subtle plains of mystery
A split tongue spirit talks
Noble as a nickel chief
Striking up an old juke box
And he says:
"Snakes along the railroad tracks"
He says, "Eagles in jet trails"
He says, "Coils around feathers and talons on scales
Gravel under the belly plates"
He says, "Wind in the Wings"
He says, "Big bird dragging its tail in the dust
Snake kite flying on a string"

I come from open prairie
Given some wisdom and a lot of jive
Last night the ghosts of my old ideas
Reran on channel five
And it howled so spooky for its eagle soul
I nearly broke down and cried
But the split tongue spirit laughed at me
He says, "Your serpent cannot be denied"
Our serpents love the whisky bars
They love the romance of the crime
But didn't I see a neon sign
Fester on your hotel blind
And a country road come off the wall
And swoop down at the crowd at the bar
And put me at the top of your danger list
Just for being so much like you are

Ironically, Mitchell has always thought of herself as "an artist who was derailed by circumstances" and I would love to own one of her originals someday, although it won't be any day soon since they sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

This is a self-portrait she did earlier this year:

Well, whatever he is, he can say a whole lot of words in a really short amount of time. I respect that he can bust out rhymes like that without getting tongue-twisted. I like "Shake That @ss" and "When I'm Gone" on Curtain Call

Or maybe I have anger issues... :D

Aztec don't be a music Nazi.

Rap is a legitimate genre of pop music. Personally, I prefer rappers who can also sing (Queen Latifah, R. Kelly) but there is no denying "rappers" such as Eminem, are outstanding at what they do although you may be loathe to call it "signing".

In fact, many people feel that Rap is the most socially honest genre going right now, at least when it comes to story telling.

sorry but I can't recognize rap as a legitimate genre of "music" it may be a commercially legitimate genre of "business" being that it rakes in so much cash, but yes I admit I am somewhat of a music Nazi, cause I play, and it frustrates me to see people making a huge living out of "rapping", when they couldn't play chop sticks if their 2 fingers were duct taped together, and I can actually play and I'm squawlering in my own feces. Well I exaggerate somewhat on that point.

But as for M&M having any musical talent, I also am proud of the fact that I can think of about 5 or 6 words that ryhme with B#$ch.

Rap music was in the 80's and early '90s what Jazz, Blues, and Rock 'N Roll were for previous generations: an original American music art form, a lifestyle and culture completely unique unto its own, and a style that would change the face of recorded music, forever.

It truly is a tragedy to see this innovative and groundbreaking form of music degrade into the mindless and irresponsible drivel it is today.

I guess I have a thing for gay guys, not that Steve is gay - don't know for sure?? There are also many broadway singers that have amazing vocals, Colm W??? - Jean Valjean on the Les Mis soundtrack, for example.
To me, a singer has range and emotions other than anger - that's why rappers to me aren't singers.
I respect their poetry and right to express themselves, like I did punk rock back in the day. I would just never buy it.

(If you're into rap, I think you would be very interested in a new style of music that I have been recording. I put a microphone near my toilet and record my bowel movements with a very primitive beat behind it. The single is going to be the movement I had after eating a very rancid bowel of black beans the night before. I think your intellectual taste in music would be able to appreciate this new ground breaking form of art that I am very proud to be a part of. If you want to purchase the CD let me know.)

I'm a fairly large Journey fan, from what I understand, he's definitely not gay, although he has very feminine attributes, but from what I've heard from Neil and the other guys, he is a 100% @#$-hole, ego maniac. But he's a star, so what are you going to do. They have never come close to the success they had back in the day with their new guy, who isn't bad, but no Steve.

sorry, I am just struggling to see the appeal to something where all there is to offer is a beat (from a drum machine) no music except what is sampled/stolen from real musicians that actually know how to play their instruments, with talking behind it. I understand that this is supposed to be about the poetry, but a good rhyme doesn't do anything for me musically. If I want a rhyme I'll read some poetry, if I want music I'll listen to music.
