View Full Version : McPhans are Phunny like that...

Well, it seems that Katharine's fans, at least on this forum, are some of the most die-hard Idol fans. For that, I applaud them. But it seems like some have the potential to get worked up for, what I believe, are the wrong reasons. I'll explain...
All season long, the judges have been telling Katharine that she is a star. It has been obvious all along that she is one of the Judges' favorites. And it's understandable. She looks great, sings great, and has stage presence. Some may disagree with me, and that's fine, because those are all subjective. But in the real world, Katharine + Music + McPhans = McProphits.
So why shouldn't she have picked a song like "I have nothing?" Sure, she's not as polished as Whitney (once was), or as experienced, but the judges have repeatedly fed her confidence with such remarks.
I think the judges were beginning to get nervous because Katharine had already been in the bottom three and Pickler had never been in the bottom three. They know Katharine is a much better singer/performer than Kellie, and know she'll likely bring in more profits on a record deal. So, if you're a judge, and you know hundreds of thousands (maybe millions) of Kat fans are watching, how do you deal with it?
You rip her to shreads. It makes the McPhans fear for their star and dial away furiously to keep her safe (42+ million votes???). Meanwhile, Pickler fans are a little more relaxed because they know that she's gotten away with "murder on music row" for weeks now, and will probably be safe with Elliott and Paris still in the running.
Then, the next day, you put yourself back in the good grace of the viewers by publicly apologizing for something you never truly meant anyways. So how did it pan out? Pickler got sent packing in her first ever appearance in the bottom, and Katharine was one of the top two vote-getters.
Worked like a charm.
I'll bet the judges were just salivating at the fact she picked a Whitney song. What a great opportunity to tear her a new one, no matter how well she did. She merely gave them the exactly what the wanted... a chance to make everyone nervous that Pickler might stick around longer than Kat.
Kudos to the judges for phsyching out all of America, well except for me. :)
For the record, I think Katharine was the first person ever on American Idol to successfully pull off a Whitney ballad.

That's a pretty brilliant theory and you could be right, but do you really believe it? That is a fairly large conspiracy and a lot of double thinking on the part of simon and the others if its true. Do you think since they all trashed her, that they really talked before hand and said hey this +this+this means we should do this? You may be right, I'm just asking.

Of course I really believe it... I mean c'mon, would you rather have to sign a deal with Kellie or Katharine (when thinking in terms of potential profits)? And the lots of calls to the studio? That was only a small (maybe unexpected) part of the reaction. The biggest part was the McPhans helping Kat topple Taylor as the top vote-getter.
Another theory might be that maybe they did it just to spite Nigel Lythgoe... He cracked Simon on American Idol Extra for "leading Chris down one path, then crucifying him when he went down it." A much less plausible and less interesting theory.

You've said it brilliantly. I had a similar version in my head except I thought they were trying to knock her down a peg or two since she's been praised so much, hence, the panic in fans to call in favor of her. I, too, thought she did a tremendous job on the Whitney song, and kept wondering what the judges heard that I didn't. I was beginning to second guess myself. Your theory is right on. And, frankly I don't care how they get to the top two, but if it isn't Kat and Chris (with Elliot a close 3rd), it's really screwed. Those are the 3 best, all around singers in the competition.

Honestly if I ran a talent management firm and was thinking in terms of a total merchandising deal (TV, Film, Toys, CD's etc.) than I'd go with Kelly without giving it a second thought.
Can she sing as well as Kat? No! Is she as pretty? No again. But does she have more charisma and personality? Only about 1,000 per cent.
Even on her way out the door yesterday she was chatting up a storm, and if this girl doesn't land her own talk show or sitcom I'll be stunned. If it had been Kat going home we all know she would have been collapsed in a heap of tears.
Katherine may be more talented but Kellie is far more bankable.

Ab El, I have to question your theory. If what you say is true, then Kellie shouldn't have gone home yester-eve. Kellie got a far worse verbal beating from the judges, so HER fans would have rallied, if your theory is correct. PLUS, she had the vote for the worst people helping her out.
I really don't think it was a ploy to make people vote for Kat. I think the judges just really didn't like it, or they hadn't yet gotten to the rum in the bottom of those big plastic Coke cups yet. They were grumpy during Kat, were getting fuzzy during Elliot (Paula's tears) and by Chris, the men were feeling REALLY charitable, and Paula was ready for her "Girl's Gone Wild" close up.

I think the two-number option threw Kellie's fans off. LOL. Maybe that was the producers' intent... hmm another conspiracy theory.
But seriously, her fans just may have really believed she was safe... she took a pretty good beating from the judges (and REALLY butchered the song) the week before and didn't even land in the bottom three.

I had a suspicion like this one, similar to yours, only more obscure....but yours is much more tangible....and it makes sense.:)
I not only was pissed that night, but voted for 1 hour and thirty minutes straight to make sure that Kat was getting the votes.
And I'm kinda glad they pissed me off anyway.
I was getting a bit too nonchalant with Kat...only voting for about 30 minutes each Tuesday.
So I guess that during Tuesday night, it was the Katpack's wake up call, and I loved that performance.
Which made it even more baffling when ALL three judges demolished her performance, wiping it aside.
And boy was I pissed:D , but hey, if that's what they were trying to do, and they were noticing Kat's low votes, then I'm glad they're trying to help her.
But after this Tuesday's "bumble", I'll definitely vote at least an hour and thirty minutes from now on.

AE, AE, AE, Just as I was starting to understand some of the members here!
You could not really believe that there is some kind of "conspiracy" between the 3 judges. Why is it so hard to believe that the judges simply report how they think a contestant performed for the evening? Most of the time I agree with their reports. Randy, as I understand it, does not get any profit from the winner no matter who it is!
If they did not want Kellie to win...
1. Why would she have been put through to be a finalist?
2. Why was she given so much praise for so many weeks?
I just can't make myself believe that they actually would sit and decide before a show how they will respond to a performance.

FalseIdol, I know many people were saying that Kellie is this dumb blonde chick and all that, but I admire her courage when Ryan said it was her turn to go home. If I won a trip to a paradisaic island somewhere and I had to choose between Katherine and Kelly to accompany me on the trip, I'd choose Kelly. I like people who are down to earth, and I think the way Kellie was on the show is her real personality. She didn't start crying, even when she was criticized for her song, she was upbeat. I already miss her, but I hope she has a wonderful future.

I LOVE conspiracy theories. It helps to stretch my grey matter because most of time, it is at a dormant stage.
AB, your theory is certainly food for thought. If Simon Cowell hadn't thought of that, he may just start thinking about it now. That is, if he's browsing through this place.
In fact, I have a theory myself. It actually came while I was half-asleep. I suddenly thought, "hey, could this guy Son of Simon be actually Mr Cowell himself".
Now, wouldn't that be great??! If I am this naughty, sharp-tongued Brit, that's what I would do. I call myself something like Son of Simon, sprout all kinds of theories, drop a few truths and casually throw a few strong hints and watch for the crowd's reactions.
After four seasons of AI, you would have thought you have seen everything but the producers and other backroom boys are always two steps ahead of the mob.
I wouldn't be surprised if they would try anything to hold everybody's attention, including inviting Michael Jackson for a cameo appearance, just to stir up the hornets' nest.
On second thought, maybe that's not such a good idea.

Look, I think anyone who spends more than 10 minutes after the show frantically speed dialing on behalf on their favorite contestant has issues. I'd say 'yes' they probably did talk before hand. I remember noticing that Simon kept looking at Paula & Randy and rubbing his neck (like he knew she was doing well and what they had 'planned' was going to cause an uproar from the audience). OR...if you notice, Simon never looks at the contestants as they're singing (because he's listening). SO.......when he watched the performance again - and LIKED WHAT HE SAW (you all know what I mean) he just HAD to apologize. LOL No, but really - the person who should have gone did - and that's all that matters, right?

I think this is highly probable. I'd bet money on the fact that at least 80% of Ace's votes went to Kat.

Vote, while spending 90 minutes paging through Seventeen Magazine. The perfect way for any self-respecting young male to while away a Tuesday evening.
Do you always have to 'dog' people for voting??????? It's like it bothers you or something. If it gets to you that much to know that most on this AMERICAN IDOL forum do vote, get OFF or don't read them or at least keep your comments to yourself. If you liked Kellie so much, why didn't YOU VOTE????
Whew - I feel better now!

Do you know why women live longer than men?

Yeah, women live an average of 4.6 years longer than men, but that still doesn't help me understand your post.... WHAAATTTT????!?!?!?!??????

Woof! Woof!
I don't dog people for voting, I dog people for being obsessive-compulsive and thinking that spending two hours holding a phone frantically speed dialing votes in for some contestant who they saw appear on a meaningless talent show is a rational and/or important thing to do.
Whew! I'm sure glad Tinsong feels better.

It...was...a...joke.
Men who are married eventualy WANT to die young. Because it's 4.6 less years of "How come we never talk anymore" or "Why did you say that about my mother" or "Do I look fat in this" or "How come you think it's dumb for me to vote for two hours" conversations that we WON'T BE FORCED to endure.
I bet Tinsong REALLY feels good now! :D

You wrote "what" instead of "Why" in the original post. I was all confused. But you confuse me a lot...

He dogs people because he has no LIFE.
And just because fans, who love their favorites vote persistently ONE night a week for 1 to 2 hours....he "deems" that as unrational, and meaningless.
So yeah, it's kinda screwy when this schmo, who practically lives at this forum, berates people for their tendencies.
So I'll say it loud and clear you decrepit nut.
GO to the Community center, and play bingo with the rest of the grouchy neurotic peons.

Yeah, if there were any 15 year old boys who went to my school and admitted to reading Seventeen magazine, they probably would've gotten beat up.
Naw, it's just the usual type of behavior you would expect from a young red-blooded American male these days! :D

Okay, I better get a asbestos suit; you know, before that flamethrower of yours is "runned" dry.

WHy don't you just leave it from here, so that this thread will stay back on topic.

Look Kiddo, when you make comments about "runned dry" nobody needs to try to be funny or demean you.
You seem to be doing quite well all on your own.
PS> And the word you were looking for is "rebuked" not "rebuffed".

I know 5-6 people who voted for Ace, none of them are Katharine voters now. Dont think that 80% is right.

[QUOTE=AbsentElement]Well, it seems that Katharine's fans, at least on this forum, are some of the most die-hard Idol fans.
I COMPLETELY AGREE.
I started out on this forum disliking Katharine, I thought she was arrogant and self indulgent. I believe that everyone on this forum knew this and we have had many debates over it.
However, I didn't hate Katharine and even gave her a second chance at one time. But I will admit, a lot of my irritability regarding Katharine came from the Katharine Lovers. The finger pointing, self-righteous, "you must be jealous" fans make me dislike Katharine sooooo much, I can hardly watch her on TV. Did these members intend on doing this....Im sure not, But they have and now I could never change my mind, even if I wanted too.

actually this continuing fued is one of the main reasons I tune into this forum, entertainment should be emphasized on this thing. Although it might be easier for us fans if they were to include their fued in a seperate thread, that way it would be easier to track.

It is pretty entertaining. Especially when McFever opens himself up by using the wrong words or misspelling them. You know False is going to jump right on that. If you're going to go up against False, you better have your ducks in a row.
